Aion is a game based around World PvP.  As such, player skill does not come from being able to solo 3 guys, but rather, with a group of 5 or 6, take down 20 guys through good communication, and coordination.  WoW is much more friendly to the solo pvper.  Unless you've attained a Hero-rank, solo pvping in Aion is not the way to go.

Skill in world pvp is being aware of everything around you, of being able to communicate effectively, being able to react and adapt to much more diversified situations then the same 5 arenas over and over, or the same Battleground scenario repeated for the 1000th time.  There is an arena in Aion and there has been several tournaments on the korean servers already.

It's almost 2010, and I am just not wiling to tolerate clunky graphics while being told that "gameplay is more important than graphics". That excuse won't wash with me any more. I expect my games to have both good graphics and good gameplay.

I find AIONs combat more fun than WoWs.

Its natural after 5 years of playing the same game.

WoW once was a good game but  for someone who played from the very beginning now its boring. And Blizzard, with patches like 3.2 is like forcing you to quit.

If you want to prove your skill to the world or something go play Street Fighter, Contra 4 on hard or Starcraft.

But don't even imply that an e-sport (like WoWs arena) has a place in an mmoRPG.

AIONs PvP seems to be a solid and meaningful PvP system with keep sieges and captures.

Also the Flying Combat adds a new dimension to combat, pve or pvp.

I might add that if a game utilizes a mana bar it is MORE skilled than not, because you have to use some thought rather than unlimited hotbar button mashing. It is the same thing as games using pots to fight non stop with never a care for how they use their spells or abilities.

If you are still stubborn and can't realize the skill behind it,think of it in real life terms as getting "tired".It is a good mechanic one that works good and has been around for a long time.

I can say i never saw any botting/rmt farming but i was on beta servers so IDK if that makes any difference.I don't think it is worth the RMT efforts if the servers reboot after beta,so you may see a ton of it when the real launch happens IDK though only speculation based on how RMT works on new games, especially a biggie based out of the biggest gaming country in the world.

The Arena in WoW is a terrible way to show skill, I'm sorry. It's all about who has the right comp -- skill cap in WoW is pretty low. I mean really that's all there is to it, sure you can flaunt your epeen but if you're running with an FoTM comp who really cares?

As far as Epeen flaunting goes anyways Abyss Points give you ranks which you can use to flaunt your epeen all you want. Of course the PvP in Aion is world PvP so it sounds like you wouldn't like it.

And Lineage II PvP is so much more skill based than WoW, sorry.

After reading about 3 pages of the typical nonsense, I don't think I saw anyone that actually answered your questiton.

There aren't BGs or Arenas.  However, there is a very real system to show your PvP prowess. As you kill people in the Abyss, you gain Abyss points.  The number of points you gain is based on the rank of the person you kill.  The higher the rank, the more points you take.  The same is true of your own rank, so the higher rank you are... the more points you lose in death.  This basically create a an artificial skill cap where your average player will be unable to rise above a particular rank.

You use these points to buy abyss gear, which is the best PvP gear in the game.  Some of this gear is quite expensive, and will cost so much that a player's skill cap will limit them in what items they can realistically purchase.  In this way the system rewards the "skilled' PvPers with the best equipment.  Also the better players will advance in rank and obtain gear at a much quicker rate than an average player.  Whenever you buy stuff with AP, you lose those points and de-rank, which allows you to earn points at an excelerated rate again.  A talented player who is smart in picking his fights and knowing when to run for his life will accumulate points and gear at a much faster rate that a wreckless player who is constantly dieing.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the person w/ the highest AP per side is granted the ability to turn into what basically equates  into a raid boss.  This is on a fairly long cooldown (I don't remember the exact number), but it lasts fairly long and you can really have fun with it and make a difference in large battles.  Just keep in mind everyone will be gunning for you at the highest ranks... so basically you get a target glued onto your back for all the point hungry players on the other side.

So yeah, as long as the system works like it should and doesn't end up being a victim of kill trading  or some other lame asz cheating... there is definitely a place to show you're an elite pvper.

BTW, there are also sanctioned tournaments.  Atleast in the Korean version.  I'm guessing NCSoft will set up something similar over here when the game matures(I think they run them, I can't read the korean texts).

I mentioned the Abyss Ranks but didn't really explain it. :P

I will tell you there is a lot of skill in PvP in Aion, but I won't sit around and argue with trolls about it.  Just read kilkil2's post, and watch his video.

Skill?  Hmm, must have missed that part...

Nope, the folk with the time to put into the game will forge ahead in the 'gear' stakes, which will ultimately be the deciding factor of a fight.

Nothing new, just another game forum filled with QQ.

It isn't really, to reach the skillcap in L2 means to know how to position yourself versus certain classes and to know how to kite properly, other than that, not really much, while in WoW you have to CC/interrupt fast and properly and switch targets while still moving for example, which isn't an easy thing to do for the average PvPer.
After playing in this weekend, I can imagine that Aion is a less carebearised Vanilla WoW's PvP system. I guess the real skill battles will come from the small pvp teams that will try to kill each other in the abyss since I can't posibly know how ganking a clothie at 75% hp who also has a mob on him can be called PvP.

Comparing MMOs with burger companies-the epitome of logic.

My sentiments exactly; it's sort of like a slightly watered down version of WoW vanilla with flying and the "chain" system.

PvP is the same here as every other game. Only half rate. Even Ultima Online (spam ebolt, flamestrike) and AC, perhaps the gods of PvP, had the same style. HIt those buttons non-stop :) I have about given up looking for a great PvP game. But don;t let this subtract from the overall gameplay, Aion is still fun at it's core.

I am also a pvper but arena is the most boring pvp system ever invented. The only reason theses guys became better is because they had acces to the best gear over those who don't like arena. Zerg pvp is the best.
