Instead of fixing minor issues they kept trying new and stupid ways to fix the problems by adding a load of crap content making a minor problem a major one. I was very upset in leaving WoW but its just become so bad that I couldnt stand it no more! Not only me but so many people that I know of have also quit and all you see on forums these days is "I have quit wow guys cyas". 5 Million Chinese players cant play WoW no more and have recently bought Aion to see how it is, Believe me when I say half of those 5 million players will not return to WoW. WoW used to have 12 million subscribers, take away 5 from china that leaves 7, take away another 1 from U.S/Ocania/Europe thats 6. Only 6 million players are left playing WoW, Once games like Old Republic and Aion come out believe me you wont see more then 4 million left playing WoW. It wont 'die' but it wont be half of what it used to be, WoW had its time and its almost up, new games with new ideas like Aion + SWOR will be dominating the market soon.. Mark my words!
hm you might see the future better than nostradamus, BUT i still give a rats ass about your statements - they are your opinion no less but also no more :) so some of us think wow dies others dont do this -> different opinions, you have to live with it.

Star Wars will likely live on simply because of the name (similar to LOTRO) but WoW will be around for a long long time. Until a company grows some balls and launches an MMO out of the norm, WoW will continue to own the market unfortionately. "Kings of typos" ^^ EDIT: typo... AKA "Hater of haters" |

I agree with this guy. While TOR is certainly going to have a different leveling process than WoW, every indication we've seen so far is that the endgame is going to be very similar to WoW and all it's clones. TOR better do it well or it will suffer the same fate of all the other clones. |

The noly reason I see this killing wow because it has "start wars" on it, that is it. |

Biowares other games have done well, while Turbine never had a huge game so the comparision seems unfair. Almost all Biowares games have sold over a million copies (funny enough is KOTOR the exception). TOR still wont get the Wow players because it is a RPG while Wow is more of an action game but Bioware don't need a name to sell a lot of copies, just keep your eyes open this autumn when Dragon age comes out, it will sell a lot. |

My flatmate quit WOW recently. He has been playing it on and off (mostly on) since launch. He has been walking around like a zombie for a few days now on the hunt for alternatives. To me this is a clear sign of what state WOW is in at the moment, hehe. SW:TOR is bound to profit from that. Though I hope some of it will reflect to the other great upcoming releases as well.

KOTOR got game of the year award so I think that KOTOR sold pretty good. And like some said about the state of WoW being very boring am repeative after you played it for 4-5 years is also very true. www.bioware.com/games/knights_old_republic/awards/ as you can see here. Which makes them a pretty good choice for making this game. And their way of thinking will make this the best Star Wars mmo, and I think mmo in general due to the way they are making it. If you read and watched enough info from their dev journal you would know. |

STFU this is not a competition. Wow establishe hes position in the mmo industry allrady. There is not killing to it only. Dont try to beat wow in there own game wich let me add it originates from everquest era. Rather make something out of the wow box and let it win hes own pedestal not steal wow one. |

spot the Bioware/Kotor fan No game will kill WoW. It will die when it is ready. If the main reason that a game is made by the Developers is to kill Wow then they have set themselves up for failure. Why? Because every time you say this Game will kill WoW you are advertising for WoW, people will check Wow out to see what they are missing. The best bet is to plan on making a game a segment of the playing population will like. Make your bucks and develop it for a while, then go on to a new game. WoW will die, but not for a long time and not because of 1 game. BTW: I do not play WoW and I hate it - having played it once. That does not mean that I am looking for a WoW killer, I just play games I like, regardless of whether they draw players from WoW or not. |

Well we could have a poll that only Development companies could answer.
Question: If you had the choice of a subsriber base would you pick:
A: 2,500,000 Carebears.
B 300,000 Serious MMO Players.
****
Honestly I'd love to see where the "facts" are for the MMO industry. I'm fairly certain (A) will win everytime.. yet it would be interesting to see what they (developers) really think.
To the topic.. why would anyone want an MMO to kill WoW or care? If a game comes out that YOU enjoy playing... why does it have to kill or do better than any other game? Beyond being successful enough that they keep it running etc... if YOU enjoy it, that is all that matters. Being able to choose the skills you want to use, offers much less variety than pre-made class based systems. -Future Game Developer |

I'd like to see ~10million players from one game switching to another game. If it even happen, hook me up.
WoW is like Walmart... it can't die. |

Ofcourse (A) will win, its not a charity. If they want 300.000 serious MMO players they need to atleast double or even tripple price on gamebox and the sub fee to be able to make any money on it. And what you wrote about the topic, youre 100 % right on. If you like it you enjoy it plain and simple. Good post btw. Compared to all the mindless troll post from people having posted 1-5 times before it was a very good read. |

"all of the places and people belong, to the puzzle but one of the peices is gone. And it's you" |
these threads are in every forum of a new game. They get necro'd afterwards to LOL, even though I dont think anyone agrees the TOR will kill WOW, whatever that means. I think it means get the WOW players to switch and not go back. Could be funny if this game ignores WOW players all together. They'll have to just keep playing WOW. Just keep on playing. Nothing else on the horizon...just keep on playing. No other games in dev resemble WOW at all. Just keep on playing. That reason to quit never gonna happen. Just keep on playing. Same thing over and over, just keep on playing...... If I still knew anyone who was playing WOW. I'd tell em this is the last chance to get out and into another game. But i dont know anyone who still plays. |

Not even close. WoW will remain the dominant force. (as always) |

Of coarse it will. Most people agree and are just having fun with another one of these threads. It will sell well becaue of KOTOR, but i dont see enough of an mmo for it to be a wow killer. Lucas is probably the only ones out of the loop. And EA's investors expecting a return. Short some EA stock before launch IMO. |

If KOTOR will have the following: "Go young paladin, search me to kill 6 young boars (pigs in space) with this light saber (holy mace) on that red planet (Outland)" and by doing this for 50 levels you can then tank-spank-heal some monsters on the death star..... it WILL be the next failure in MMORPG land. Failure as in failing to achieve 500 K long term subs. If KOTOR will use OTHER mechanics than the above quests with "tanks-spank-heal" fights it could mean something. Like meaningful space battles, planet systems to conquer, dynamic changing solo content with a complete different leveling system etc... The good thing is .... everyone KNOWS it must be done the "other" way. The bad thing is ... what is the shortest way to the money grabbing of ... EA???? ------> We will see... who will win: the developpers with a view or ... the money grabbers. It could be that Diablo3 will be more revolutionay than kotor even. We will see.

This is actually great advice especially if they float this release around some of their console sports games too, some quick money to be made there ;) As far as killing WoW, no game will accomplish this in the near future. I believe in the next couple years though a game may pass it's sub numbers if a game evolves enough and goes worldwide. I don't think any MMO for a long while will get the sub numbers it had at it's height. Blizzard has a very strong fanbase and they brought alot of other non MMO players into the genre and set the bar pretty high for other companies. I didn't play WoW long but I definitely enjoyed it while I did and felt I got my moneys worth. Other games... not always the case... Fight my Brute Clicky!! |
