I've been an Eve player for quite a while now, however a couple of months ago I decided to hang up my spurs. Since then I have tried quite a few MMO free trials, but they all seem to follow the standard 'Grind mobs / do 'get 10 rat tails for me' missions to level up, then (presumably) play end-game content' way of playing. Personally I find the very tedious, so I was wondering: Does anyone know of any MMOs that are more open ended, where you don't just have to grind mobs and do the standard missions to level up? Basically, what MMOs have a point past trying to be top level with the best gear?

Thanks for any replies :P

I've also downloaded about 8 other MMO's in the past year. And yep, they all just the same.

My favourite is still EVE.

Mortal Online looks like its going to be something different.

Saga of Ryzom is completely different to all the mainstream MMORPGs -  if it's for you ....?

This part is up to you, no one else can decide :)

"A Tale In the Desert" is about the most different I can think of, but I'm not sure it's different in the way you're wanting. There's no combat in the game at all, and it's very dated in appearance. Despite the fact that I generally enjoy crafting and it's very crafting-oriented, the game never really clicked for me. Even so, you just have to respect what they've done with the thing. It's totally unlike anything else on the market.
