That's the truth.  In CoX it's Virtue.  In SWG it's Starsider.  Oddly enough, both are their game's unofficial RP servers and have been since launch.   I don't think this is a coincidence when you take into account other servers like Wiccana or Landroval in other games.

Or Freedom?  before I was going to get back in game fromt he free 3 months nc gave for shutting down TR I watched servers and Virtue and Freedom were the ones.  I transfered my char to Freedom because it seemed more likely in my time zone.  But even the server I was on (forgot name) had a surprising amount of people on it for being tagged as low at sign in.  coh/v is a game where I actually have to hide from team invites (at work, afk too much) there is so much activity.  The markets actually fluctuate in front of your eyes a lot.   coh/v is a hold over till Aion and champions come out soon.  Then on to APB, Jumpgate and Startrek when that comes out, anything else lookin good too.   Aion Beta today (another gift for shutting down TR).   I really wished they copied the leveling properties of Coh/v,  the skill one level and enhancing that skill the next.   Thats nice.  Maybe in champions.

the review was good except for the "not good for solo play".  this game is very solo friendly, if not one of the most friendly... because there are only 1 or 2 archtypes that can't solo well.  The only one i can think of off the top of my head are Dominators, they have the weakest overall dps, thus them being able to solo early on is diffecult, but later on in the game they are soloable.  just not nearly as good as Brutes are for instance.  but for the most part i've played this game solo, with the occasional friend that jumps on to play with me.  I've gotten 3 characters to level 50 mostly by solo play.  only 1 or 2 levels where made with groups. 

This game is very repetitious but the story elements are sometimes really funny and interesting.  There are a lot of different types creatures to fight, especially now with the architect system, people can make an endless amount of content for the game.

Its been a very fun game for me aside from Guild Wars.  To each is their own of course...

I just read that same article today (if you're talking where he said if he could re-do Villain's he'd do it a completely different way) and I'm pretty sure that the plan (guessing) is if Champions does well to role out a nemesis version that would reflect Villains could have/should have been. I imagine the vision for villains  went something like this: lets take the hero's world, and use the same formula, only reverse everything so you kidnap rather than rescue, destroy rather than save.' It just feels too much the same game. And I think the fact there are so few lower levels or alts or anyone really, running around is a case being made for how hard it is to get through those first levels.

Saying that, it'll be interesting to see if a nemesis game rolls out, and it does correct many of Villains' missteps, what that will do for villains.

This game is atleast my favorite MMO. Yes it can be boring and if your new with no guidance then you'll be bored I believe. But I brought my friend in and showed him around and he is having fun. Been playing this game sense '04 so I know my way around (CoH '04 and believe CoV '05).  

With the new AE missiosn there is no reason to be slow lvling. Join freedom server and get to like lvl 6ish and go do some AE. I created a team for AE at lvl 6 and got to lvl 12ish in matter of like 1hr or so. If your lucky and have a friend like me can get your other friends in some higher lvl AE boss farming and get from 1-30 in like 3-4hrs all depends on your team really.

 

In long run this game kind of died because of age and now they use the ascuse of AE killing it (it was dead before AE because of it being out so long, AE just made it alive again but in different way).

And I'm sorry, but CoH/V takes repetition to a WHOLE new level. I've played the majority of AAA MMO's out there and I can easily say that this one is the most repetitive of them all. Here, you do the same mission over and again, just with different names of victims etc. to cover that fact up. In other MMO's at least the story somewhat changes as you go along...


 

I agree, most mmo's have some level of repitition but, yes,  CoH?V DOES take it to a whole new level. I couldn't stay interested and found myself treating missions like a chore... must...do...this... must... do.... it's very hard to stick with a game like that.  But it is about preference, and enough players still enjoy the game to be staying, I just think the population is aging (as in higher levels, not actual age) and has little interest in starting all over. This makes sense, but it still does the game a disservice, because new players, or even veteran players who quit and are considering coming back, without any sense of story in the lower levels, or any population... probably won't stay. I've decided to stick it out, I pulled a veteran player back in -- but it's like we're playing in a world where the zombies won and ate everyone else... it's just the two of us and some snakes.

For me my COH/V experience has been rather dull.  All i remember about this game is going to the almost exact same set of dungeons, doing the almost same kind of missions, killing the almost exact same mobs.   And when it was time to upgrade, finding out that the most simple update was completly out of price.   

Soloing was really more a class issues, you played class X-Y you could solo fine, however play class W and Z, good LUCK !

Most MMO i ever played, most of them i played and quit and played and quit several time, for COH/V when i left the game i never came back, this was 2-3 years ago and still have no feeling of replaying it again.

I liked CoH/CoV when they were new but now it's just too damn boring a grind to play anymore. WoW is becoming the same way. I'm going to try out Champions Online and see if I have fun with it. I'd recomened it to any superhero lovers as well. Sadly you cannot be evil, but you CAN create your own Nemsis with powers, looks and henchmen and you can get a whole rogues gallery of them. I suppose you can kill them too if your more of a Frank Castle goodguy. The PvP sounds neat too and there IS a scenario where your breaking out of prison so within that scenario you are a badguy and there is a team of good guys trying to stop you. CO will also be cool in that it has no classes. You just pick powers. I think the game will have suggestions or something too so you don't gimp yourself. It will be nice though to be able to have a character with melee and ranged attacks now. I was thinking of a Hellboy meets Deadpool sort of character.

I only played the heroes side of CoH/CoV and loved it.

Mastering some of the super abilities is a load of fun.  I felt just like some of the heroes in the movies as I clumsily crashed around trying to learn some control.

For the lower levels I preferred to solo.  Solo allowed me to explore at my own speed.  As a new player, I did not want to rush the content while getting oriented in the early parts of the game.

The low level groups leveled too quickly  for me and missed some of the content that were part of a new player's orientation.  For vets who are leveling additional toons, this may be their preferred route.

The nature of the instances did make pick up groups very common.  While some players may not like this style of game, it is one of its strengths for making grouping easy.

You level quickly, so it common for players to level additional toons.  Some players will even level 2 toons of the same class, but with different builds so that they can play their favourite class to the max with an emphasis on different sets of abilities. 

Many players have one of their toons as their badge hunter,  they go for all the badges, including badges that do not improve statistics.

Other than your badge hunter, for many players, this game is more about fun casual groups and leveling additional toons rather than spending a huge investment of time in a single toon.

They are the same fucking game, get with the times and review them as one. It's like reviewing alliance and horde in WOW as different games.

Especially now that the next issue is going to let players move villains to the hero zones, and vise versa.

 

There is also no population shortage, you just went to the wrong server. Amateur.

CoX is my go-to MMO.  When the latest shiny new MMO disappoints... CoX.  Couple things, solo friendly for sure.  Low levels under pop, umm no.  WoW is about the only MMO with a low level pop near CoX.  Repetition can be a problem for some, but its a personal thing.  You'd have the same issue with any MMO especially a grinder.  CoX is about the combat and interesting MOBs, explorers and crafters aren't the target audience.  Street Fighter IV is also repetitive with no crafting or exploration but that doesn't mean its not fun for a lot of people.

About how you can now make missions think you're 8 people when you're only 1? I did read that. I don't see it diminishing farming of MA missions though. That just means that now, the 50's won't invite you into their farms, unless you're a Kin. On the plus side, people will stop spamming you for "fill?"

People will probably just farm MA to 50 then solo farm when they're there. That's all CoX is now. Farming. Farm till you have enough money for max purples, then go PvP with the only reward for doing so being e-peen. No that's okay :( I wanna go back to i13

Sorry but I just noticed you say Guild Wars is not repititous.   Gheeez I deleted that game long ago because it was the most repitious game ever.    Im still waiting for a recomendation  for non repititous game.    coh/v is very repititious in early levels for sure.  What are all these level 50 chars doing in that game every day?    Must be pvp but a ton in AE.   Either all these capped chars love doing the same thing over and over or they know something we dont.     I did get some areas that I have never seen before the high level 40s.   Is there a whole new world of missions in the 50s?   I did not take time away from Aion to check out.   Guild wars was very repititious for me.  I guess to each their own.    P.S.  I am yet to see farms in AE now.   Its gone long ago.    At least the real farms with exploding barrels killing swarms of mobs for huge exp.   AE is no more a farm then hunting in citys now.     Then again Im not looking very hard.    I guess people would farm/lvl a character to then PVP it.

I can answer that question for my own experience.    While, like most vets, I have a ton of alts, I do often play my various 50s.   Why?   For the same reason people kept playing Diablo2 long after they had finished the main quest.   Sure, you've got a max level character with good loot, but you know there's better loot available still.   And, seeing as how it's possible (but requires extreme luck or a lot of coin), to get any item you want in the game, the drive keeps you going.   I have ideas for the perfect build for many of my characters, but it's takes quite a long while to gather the items to put that build together.    

And once I get that perfect or near-perfect build, I can then try challenges that are very hard, like soloing arch-villains or giant monsters.  

I also love the freedom my 50s have; I can go to Ouros and do any quest arcs I may have missed on the way up, or redo a favorite mission.

All MMOs are repetitive but that can be a great thing if the game works. It’s going to come down to opinion. I think the real problem is that the game FELT repetitive. When you’re having fun you hardly notice. So I agree Guild Wars doesn’t feel repetitive at all, but that’s because it’s interesting, interactive, and more smooth and better design ect. That’s all my opinion though…

The game FEELING repetitive is the big problem.
