I've been running it for over a year and a half ( legit as a TechNet tester, not "cracked" off torrent sites ) with no game compatibility issues with anything other than Gameguard when trying to play AION ( and considering Gameguard is a rootkit, the fact Win 7 blocks it out tells me it's working as intended ) and Tage DRM used on Darkstar One ( which is the same rootkit type shit as Gameguard ). So sorry, this gamer is not a "moron" but is enjoying his "bleeding edge" OS very much, thank you.

For me the deal breaker is no "What u hear" function because Microsoft have disabled it on Windows 7 so the record companies don't moan about people recording their tracks. So legit people who used it for making videos and stuff get burnt.........

Is that Microsoft's fault? Or Windows 7's fault? Nope. And there's free programs to download that work with 7 that do the same thing.

Look at the poor Australians due to the EU forcing all that "anti-trust" shit because of companies like AMD. They get Windows "E", which doesn't even come with  a web browser. Why? Because Google and Opera and other browser makers claimed it was unfair, so the EU demanded Microsoft package all of their competitor's browsers for customer's to choose. Would you package your competitor's shit with your product? Neither would MS, so they just removed the browser all together.

it is microsofts fault because they disabled it.

How the fuck is it MS fault?

Unless you have the mistaken impression MS is run by socialist or communist, they did the right damn thing.

You tell me to include my competitor's shit in my stuff, and I'll tell you to fuck off the same as MS did.

Are you going to tell me next that people are too damn stupid to download Firefox, Opera, or whatever they want once the OS is installed? Apparently the EU government believes so, otherwise they wouldn't have made such a ridiculous demand.

IMHO Os should come with nothing but bare bones minimums and connectivity tools, people can download what products they want. Microcrap should stop filling my HDD with all their shit programs like the Microsoft Games or Microsoft Calender.

I have allways puchaced the latest OS the first week of release and NEVER had an issue. peoples main issue with new OS's is they do not keep their Computers up to date. tke for insence Windows ME. I hade no issues. have to keep up with the latest Video & Audio drivers {and any other drivers you reqire} and can't have programs running that are 10 years old, and you should be good.

Never had an issue with any OS.

In Europe we got the "E" edition which is mainly due to the EU interferring over what browsers, mail programs etc were to be included MS decided to not put any of them in.

Although one upside is that for £45 we are getting a full retail copy (£90 for the pro edition) as there will be no upgrade versions over here.

Given that in the EU it looks like in 2 days all the special priced copies have sold out, Europe will certainly be going over to it in October in a big way.

I haven't looked into it but I also know how I could do it. But I am curious how anyone will be able to download a browser that want when they don't start with a browser at all?

So basically how I had figured out how I would do it anyways :)

The average user, I think will be having an issue with this though.

Basically what will happen is those in EU will just buy the OS from the U.S. or other unrestricted territory, and the "E" and "N" versions will sit on shelves collecting dust.

I have it pre-ordered from Newegg when MS had that pre-order special for $50 or some such. However, I may wait until SP1 comes out before upgrading.

All hail the never failing public library interwebz connection and a jump drive :P

Step 1: Bike to local net enabled library.

Step 2: Steal the sign in info off the desk by talking to the old hag and distracting her.

Step 2b: Just ask to sign in for an hour if that is your style.

Step 3: Log onto interwebs and download the following:

Firefox

Ad-Aware

uTorrent ((cmon this one is obvie :P))

Winamp ((eats itunes for breakfast and isn't such a resource whore, also can load up ipods with music using it))

Any variant of your favourite C++ editor, java editor, and maybe python editor if you are bored like me.

Newest Nvida/ATI drivers.

Maybe get the flash files for your BIOS.

Step 4: Unplug USB jump drive, stick it in your pack, ride back home, install all of the above.

Step 5: DONE!

Oh and don't forget to take one of these!

No way in hell I'm buying this turkey. Personaly I feel Windows 7 is just a retinker of  Vista. Instead of fixing this complete dog turd of an OS with a 2nd service pack, they instead opted to rebrand it as a whole new operating system. Thereby screwing the customers who made the mistake of paying for Vista out of money TWICE!! I know that Bill Vegthe has been quoted as saying  "There are plenty of great things in there that make it (Windows  7) much more significant than a service pack," but I say bollocks.  Windows 7 is what Vista should have been in the first place. Maybe if they had decided to wait to release the craptastic Vista OS later when it was something to be proud of, instead of worrying about keeping their corporate boot to the throat of their competition, they wouldn't have embarrassed themselves with Vista in the first place. I say that Windows 7 is an unfair tax on Microsoft's on customers due to Microsoft's own lack of vision.

And before any one jumps in and declares I'm just a Microsoft hater and/or a Linux fan, My favorite operating systems are listed thusly.

Windows 3.1

Windows 98 SE

Windows XP Professional 32 bit

Windows XP Professional 64 bit

So there you have it. I'm a rabaid Microsoft fan. I just feel that they have made some seriously bad and foolish decisions with Vista, and they wrongly expect the customer to pay for them.

I use Vista at the moment; that should probably answer the question.

On the off-chance that it doesn't, I already have Windows 7 on pre-order since it's selling for a piddly £75 on UK pre-order sites at the moment. I've tried it out and there's just no comparison with Vista; W7 widdles on it from a great height.

I already use win 7 and it works perfectly, so yes, if I bought software, I would buy win 7 at release.

I don't trust any new M$ operating system until at least the first service pack, every single one of them have been unstable, insecure and full of bugs until they have been in the wild for at least 6 months.  I didn't upgrade to XP, Vista or now 7 until post SP1, I will likely never do so again with any M$ product.

They've earned my distrust.

I have been running Win 7 RC2 on my gaming comp and must say I am very impressed by it. Everything is that much faster, cleaner, and just works. The UI changes are outstanding, they really do make you more productive (for those times I am running Dreamweaver CS4, Adobe Premier, Photoshop 64bit, 3 browsers with 6+ tabs open in each, email client, and a game (duh, look at my system!). Even with all these on there is a HUGE difference between Vista Ultimate 64bit and Win 7 Ultimate 64bit.

Windows 98 SE ,  not its first incarnation. The first release of 98 blew chunks (Windows ME also sucked rocks, and much like Vista was shipped unfinished and unworthy of owning solely to keep a current Microsoft product in the market). SE was pretty damn rock solid. So much so that when XP came out most of the computer techs I worked with didn't want to adopt it.  As to your comment of "BSoD anyone" I'm sure to are referring to the hilarious video of Bill and co with egg on their faces while hyping the soon to be released 98. After the travesty of Windows 95 we felt they deserved it.

No, I will not be buying Windows 7 at release.

But that is because I will be getting my copy for free from the place that I work :D

I pre-ordered mine at Microsoft.com to take advantage of the $49.00 price tag.  You can't really go wrong since it includes the 32bit and 64bit discs as well as having Windows XP built into the setup for XP compatability mode  :)  The upgrade disc also allows you to make a clean full install.
