Just curious as to what you all think?

Will EvE take a hit with the release of Jumpgate Evolution?

It will take a hit  - from the border line players not the hard core ones. I also predict that after about 3-5 months many of those who left will be back.  Just my opinion.

I voted No but I couldnt really make up my mind. I guess they will. Like myself- I've always been a twitch player so i will at least try it for a month alongside EVE. I dont expect it to blow my shoes off. I usually give every MMO a chance for a month or two then I always usually decide to stick with EVE

I look forward to jumpgate evolution bigtime tho.

I really dont expect EVE to take a dint and if it did it would be quickly replaced with new blood. So if they take a hit we would never notice.

The players that stick with EVE adore it for the niche features it provides along with scifi themes

It will probably take a hit, simply for the fact that it's a sci-fi space game, like EVE.  Those who play EVE for what it is though, will probably continue to play EVE.  I don't see the game offering anything new for people who are already quite comfortable with how EVE works.  Sure, there will be people who aren't entirely in love with EVE that will give it a shot, and some may even switch games, but EVE has been steadily increasing in numbers for a looooong time now, and that's because it is a quality product, regardless of what competition there might be out there.

If it takes a hit I don't think it would last. Unless Jumpgate ended up as something really special, which I don't anticipate.

I voted yes, considering that Jumpgate pulls out something spectacular and not another Earth and Beyond. I know a lot of EVE players that are looking into this once it goes live for the whole factor of being there first. I will play both for a few months since my EVE accounts are paid up for awhile.

Yes, EvE will take a hit, and remember, that Black Prophecy also is announced to be released this year.

However, it won't affect EvE very much, as those leaving are primarily the PvE players as JGE or BP are not offering unconsentual PvP and territorial warfare.

I'm not shure, still I voted no.

I'm going to buy and play Jumpgate. The main reason being that I like to play new games and experience what this and that game is all about. But my main concern is the (if it's called) twitched based combat, so well I don't know.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Considering eve is pretty much garbage with no real gameplay its not going to be hard to take people away from it. Jumpgate will actually have gameplay that takes skill, not simple auto-orbit auto attack, and have all your skills train while you go play with yerself.

there aren't many space-themed MMOs, so when a new one comes out, lots of people are going to want to try it.  I don't think "take a hit" is a good way to put it, but its pretty obvious some people are going to leave for JGE.

doubt it. BP and JE are pretty terrible as far as depth goes. If anything it will introduce more people to spaceship games. Although actually, i guess i can see people checking the games out for a month or 2, but they would come back once they notice the lack of politics, economy, and depth in those 2 games.

Scyris has obviously never played EVE before.  Even amongst most critics, it is a widely accepted fact that EVE's gameplay is incredibly in depth past its surface.  It may or may not be for everyone, but to say EVE isn't complex is a flat out lie.

While the eve client sucks, and the game lacks combat depth, jumpgate looks worse. From everything I've seen and read, jumpgate forgets why people play... it's a game. The graphics are amazing, and the gameplay is terrible. Yea it might take some skill to shoot stuff, but that's literally all the game offers.

Progression unlocks new "stuff", but there's no crafting, no talent points, no market... just not much in terms of anything outside "explore and shoot" stuff.

Star Wars TOR will put a dent in both WoW and EVE.

A twitched based combat game with nothing lost when you die is going to be very appealing for players who enjoy deciding battles by how they outfit their ships and live for the thrill of having loss/gain behind their kills.

Oh wait.

A game is going to be released that isn't slow as molasses in terms of skill training(ie 30-600 days for one skill) and not have horribly monotonous gameplay?

Oh wait, sounds like EVE.

How does EVE have any sort of real depth aside from the fact that you sometimes have to train a million pre-requisite skills just to use one thing? Do people say EVE has depth because its skill based? Because that is not really a determining factor in depth. One common occurance I see with people in the rookie chat on EVE is all the newbies sign on and play for a few hours and go "wow this has a lot of depth" just because there are a lot of words. The gameplay mostly takes place in a shit ton of windows all over your screen. Depth =/= learning curve.

I think so, many former E&B lovers may flock from EVE to JG: Evo because they may miss the solo aspect of mob hunting in space without the worry of losing much needed and earned investments (like ships, mods, weapons and etc).  Myself I am a fan of EVE, but I will be playing with JG: Evo just a bit to see how it goes.

For sure. Since the vast majority of the player base never gets involved in what EVE does well like territorial battles, politics, "big picture" stuff, and because the actual gameplay of EVE is so awful (the actual piloting of ships), I see a lot of people ready to actually fly ships instead of click around in space or target red crosses ad nasuem.

The big picture aspect of EVE is what draws people in, but very few play the game at this level. There is only so much mission grinding or spining ships in dock a player can take before they realize the only part they can have in the high level game is a pawn in a POS bashing op. Naturally, these types of players are going to want to try the new space game, and since they make up the bulk of the subscriptions, there will be a ton of people moving to JGE.

Now if they stay or not is completely dependent on JGE, and thats yet to be determined.

Yes, it will take somewhat of a hit, but not as much as most people think.  EVE is the sort of game that you can take breaks from, go check out other games, (keep paying your subs so your training continues) andd when you're ready you come back to.

I've done it several times in the past 2 years and still keep on playing.

lol thats a funny post yo. I am looking forward to eve having some competition though from a game where I can actively train my skills. But i will miss not having to grind for XP so  i might not stick around with jumpgate long

I dont want to wait on a timer anymore either biut on same token i dont want to do crazy grinding for XP either. Hopefully jumpgate will try to balance this

I think it'll take a small hit.

To be honest though, the kinds of people who will really flock to those games aren't playing EvE anyway, or if they are they wouldn't stay long anyway.  CCP has always prioritized catering to the long-term, loyal playerbase over the fickle mainstream masses, and those are the kinds of players I really can't see going anywhere.

Depending on how well they manage to retain their players, or rather fail to, they may actually end up being good for EvE.

Personally, I have no interest in space-sim games.  Heck, I only play EvE because I like the game mechanics, the setting is kind of 'meh'.  Do plan on trying Aion when it comes out but I really doubt I'll quit EvE over it, this is the only MMO that's really held my interest for any significant length of time.
