G4 recently interviewed Cryptic Studios' Chief Creative Officer, Jack Emmert, on their upcoming game Champions Online. One of the more interesting tidbits to come out of that interview is the possibility of a "Nemesis Online" counterpart to Champions Online.

In the interview, Emmert states:

"Look, if Champions is successful and people want that, heck yea. But, I think that I already have a very different idea in mind for that. I think in City of Villains, we were asked to make the game in about a year, and so we were kind of focused on 'We gotta get this done.' So, we just took the template of City of Heroes and copied it. If I were to do it over again, I would create a very different type of gameplay for villain worlds."

What's Emmerts idea of successful? About 100,000, according to Jack:

G4: Speaking of it being successful, when you’re launching an MMO, like how many subscribers do you need in order to survive or thrive?

JE: Well, I think that number is the number for success is over 100,000 for us. If it’s over 100,000, I’m skipping the light fantastic. The break-even point is somewhere below 100,000. And that’s obviously depending upon – every MMO is different – depending on how much money is spent on it. But, clearly, we mark 100,000 as success.

With 2 playable factions at the start good and evil, the possibiliteis for pvp especially in this superhero game could have been endless but again we are stuck with the shambles of what they did with Coh.

I tend to agree. As cool as Superheroes can be, I kinda miss the option to make a villain, and to do some serious PVPing. I am really over the fence with CO. Some things seems really nice, others more... meh. It was the same why LOTRO was so boring for me after a short while. No "evil" faction, just goody goodies. *shrug*

I think we all know that Nemisis will become a reality. I'm sure pre-production has already started on it and prototypes using the current CO engine are already made. My concern is that the mighty Emmert Nerf Maul will be wielded early and often to balance PvP over PvE, as what happened to CoH. We'll see. At least DCUO will ship with the villain side with PvP being a major part of the game. Again, we'll see how it goes.

I agree the chance to roll a villian would be nice ,but I think if they released both at the same time the villians would out number the heroes by 20 to 1 and would couse pvp to be realy unbalenced. I see them doing like they did with CoH/CoV release the Heroes verstion work out all the bugs release some dlc and finaly relase the Villians Edtion. I see the logic and it makes sence.. It still suck thoe.

If god loves the fools ,and god loves every one, dose that mean we are all fools.
