Life is the true sandbox.
So just enjoy the games

Did anyone notice in that review who the publisher was?

It said it was Aventurine. lol. So I hope that is just for the EU1 server. Although Aventurine says it is another company.

Just wanted to put that out there.

Nicely written review, the reviewer has a quite nice writing style. If anyone hasn't already noticed, the largest gaming site in Spain, Meristation, reviewed Darkfall recently and rated it 7/10. In case you don't read Spanish, here is the English translation. Here is the link in Spanish.

Edit: the Meristation review is also linked from metacritic: www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/darkfallonline

There you wrong, i dont want to hype the game. I dont care if someone here will buy the game or not. If you want to look up that information, go search for yourself. You did..fine with me.

You don't want to hype the game, yet every chance you get you in fact try to do so.

I would say the author played DF even less then Zidron.

they had Multiplayer as a score?

- They had WoW previewed with multiplayer ranked N/A?

- They had Pirates of the burning sea misspeled (Priates), had a rating of 1/10 and no review.

Very strange website.

I think that's because, with as few people as there are playing it, the reviewer mistook Darkfall for a Counterstrike clone instead of an mmorpg.

All-in-all, their review isn't anything to brag about - the score is decent, but not high and the reviewer doesn't really go into any detail. Frankly, it looks like the summary could have been written without any play time at all, it's that generic. " It basically boils down to, Darkfall has lots of faults, but we think it succeeds more than it fails."  The only problem is, it doesn't really say where it succeeds.

About the sounds. The review was written after sounds were fixed (4 patches ago or so). The objective review I did also noted that the sounsd were bad, but had been fixed now.

Good point and you are probably right. But can't really be known because there is a possibility that people who use xfire also tend to be people that try games out... and then move onto the next game. I dont know that though.

PvPers tend to not log game hours with xfire due to the drop in FPS. Just saying.

That is odd. My frames don't drop when using Xfire. Not in any game.

Either you don't play a game where it matters, or have a really good rig. Either way, PvPers tend not to log game hours with xfire becuase the FPS drop. This is especially true for games that use first person shooter type of combat and performance. Also note, Xfire is mainly used by teenagers.

What I'm saying is, you can't use xfire to gage actual subs, but you can use it to see if the game has become more or less popular since its launch.

Until one of the reputable sites (mmorpg, gamespot, etc) put out a review of DF, all "most" ppl have is the Eurogamer review. Most ppl are not going to search obscure or unknown sites to get their info on a game they are thinking about purchasing. I personally don't put alot of weight in small sites because they are easily swayed by advertising. I think AV could put all the drama about websites rating DF to rest simply by putting out a 7 or 10 day trial. But if Av doesn't stop the population bleed there will be nothing to try.....

Xfire takes literally no ressource at all.

With todays PC it doesn't make any difference if you run it or not. I'm 100% sure Punkbuster (which any respectable FPS player runs with their shooter) takes more PC ressources.

Plus, if your PC really slow down from Xfire it's really, REALLY time you uppgrade that Windows 95.

Any anonymous blogger, like nogamer, can write a review. This game, Darkfall, is the poster-child for shoddy development, game-play, customer-service, community and anything else that matters to gain a notable following.

With seemingly better titles on the horizon, such as Aion, Champions, and Mortal, to name a few, save your cash, because this game is better rated as a ‘2’ out of ‘10’; 2 is for poop.

Everyone knows the Eurogamer review was a fraud. There's this review of 7.4/10, then there's also the Meristation review (biggest and highly respected gaming site in Spain) of 7/10.

Aion is your basic run of the mill Asian grinder crossed with WOW clone. I looked into it a lot but I'm yet to find anything new or even just evolutionary about it except for the luscious graphics, which means nothing in a MMO.

For mortal I am already hearing feedback that it's nowhere near ready, stuff like combat is super laggy, tons of stuff not working or really simplistic. Mortal doesn't come out for at least another 6 months, Darkfall will be on its second expansion by then plus tons of patches, Mortal will be a fresh new MMO with the usual bugs, crashes and missing content.......... on top of already having a much smaller feature list compared to Darkfall............. I'm not holding my breath.

I give more credibility to the Erogamer review than this one.  I don't think this guy even played the game.  As I stated earlier, shoddy review.

Funny how all the other reviews are around 7 and the eurogamer review is the only low one huh. And how eurogamer still hasn't released another review, cause they know they got caught with their pants down.

If Eurogamer was a fraud, why nowgamer.com is suddenly considered a third top website in the world, even if they rank games with NO REVIEW and have a spelling mistake in its name? Why  Meristation not considered fraud, even if they still have games on their list that were canceled?

Show me a review from a reputable, well-known site like IGN that has it reviewed at 7/10....

You do understand that MO is in early stages of beta right?
It's going to be several months more of testing before it's even released.
They haven't even finished the crafting system yet, it's still being developed.
If someone actually broke NDA to tell you that the game isn't ready to be released that's good, cause it shouldn't be.
Not to mention,
WTF does this thread have to do with MO?  Why do you feel you need to bring MO into this thread?  What are you so worried about that you need to post in a DFO thread putting down a game that's in early beta?  What's with the insecurities?

Last time I saw a game that got a 7.4 rating wasn't considered a good game by most people.

This review underlines pretty much the same elements of gameplay as has been stressed on this forum ever since the launch. It doesn't try to hide the flaws, it just so happens that the reviewer admittedly finds free-for-all PvP to be pleasant and interesting. Therefore, the reviewer gives the game a decent grade but by no means can one state that it would be flattering to Aventurine or for Darkfall either. The common consensus, regardless of the final score given, of the reviewers is that the game design is flawed and needs to be corrected. Or can one honestly say that a reviewer writing the following would consider the game a massive success in any foreseeable future:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When the starting areas are often camped by player-killers, where your early hours require you to learn the ropes, Darkfall can be frustrating beyond measure. Quests are few, rewards are paltry and if your time is constricted by other concerns and you were hoping for unbridled levels of entertainment to stave them off, you will probably want to quickly escape for good. After all, buying the game was hardly the most endearing process.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Even on parts where he actually gives the game some credit he reminds that these features lack in polish and ought to be developed further. He just so happens to champion the idea of player-driven end game, even with limitations, that a game has received a review of 7.4. I think that it would do more a favour to Darkfall if its most vocal supporters could admit that the Eurogamer review was in many aspects spot on. Just like this latest Total PC Gaming's review. After all, I'd imagine that those playing the game would be the one willing to actually see the game improve further.

You'll have to excuse me, I don't know how to do the spiffy multiquote.
Harkkum was spot on.  Great post.
