You don't see heterosexual people going in to games and feeling they must broadcast their sexuality then expect preferential treatment. You as a homosexual person knew darn well the choice of the gay cop theme was a hint at the Blue Oyster club culture of bear backing. I think the majority of players don't want to be reminded of that each time they see your character, as that must have been your intent, a reference to bear backing the gay cop has come to symbolize. You people have other places on the internet to express yourselves to each other, you don't have to use online games where the majority around you are not homosexuals and grow tried and annoyed at your insistence to go on about it all the time! |

To the OP. Dude, I totally get your pain. But the honest truth is that to some people the word 'queer' is derogatory and for others it is offensive. Even to some gay people. Imagine someone running around in the game with a name like "Proud Hetero". How would that hit you at first? I know that myself being gay, I would find my brain jumping to the conclusion that the person made that name as a statement of their disdain for gay people. A lot of straight people find the constant advertisement of gay sexuality offensive to them as well. Let people know that it's not a catch all label for you. Let them know that you are a many faceted person with lot's of personality traits that they could get to like. Don't make yourself just, "the gay guy". It's a fine line, and I cross it sometimes too. I know it's hard. Being in a minority you want to just yell sometimes for people to hear you. It's easy to find yourself feeling below everyone and at times it really does give you a crappy feeling. Especially with something as important as who you are able to fall in love with. Just try to understand others. That's what we're asking them to do for us. So return the favor, or if needed, be the first to extend the favor. Don't let it bother you by taking it so personal. Be your self and be good to people and this world will come around eventually. It's really hard for them to keep beating us up and making us out to be villians when we prove them wrong with our honest actions.

On the subject of rules, a rule that says you can call yourself qweer because you are gay, and I can't call you qweer because I am straight is discriminatory. Either everyone can call eachother fag and gay or no one can. |

Even from YOUR side of the story, and reviewing everything YOU said, I cannot reach a conclusion that you were discriminated against or that you were harassed. In fact, I think it is absurd and patently without any basis for you to say so.

I am either being punked by responding to this matter, or this person really is THIS irrational. Are gays discriminated against? Yes. In obvious and subtle ways. Are gays harassed? Yes. Too often. But there was none of it here. It only diminishes a serious issue when there are false claims of discrimination and harassment. In truth, after going-over your post a second time, I have determined it would be difficult to reason with you in this situation because it is truly silly; i.e., your reaction to not being able to name your character, "Queer." In fact, I am glad you were not able to name your character, "Queer." Because it could be offensive, and it also diminishes the roleplay atmosphere in a game. |
