Hello all,

The mistake was mine on this one.  Rushing along on a Friday and in my email template I goofed one little integer - which caused the emails to go out to the wrong people.  I feel like crap, total crap about the false hope given to those that got the emails. I have gotten over 100 messages on this, mostly angry and I did get some perspectives on this that were not correct so to clear some things up:

1) The people who got the emails were in no way drawn as winners via our contest system, you were all in fact the winners of the CitiesXL beta contest operated last week. 

2) You did not even need to enter the Age of Conan contest to get one of these erroneous emails.

3) We did not draw you as a winner and then undo the results or anything like that. 

4) This was not a "few" people - we are talking about 1,000 emails went out to the wrong people. 

I am looking for a way to make this right with you guys.  I think I am going to be able to give you all real digital downloads for Age of Conan - but this might be a week or so.  I first need to make sure all the real winners of this contest got their prizea and find out how many of the recipients of the bad emails used the keys.  Once I am done firefighting this I should be able to issue the people who got those emails something to make it better.

Again, truely sorry, but I am human and from time to time I manage to mangle something like this.

Very nice.  Color me impressed.  You could have just wrote off the situation.  It's nice to know that you are not.

I got the same emails, but really, it's not a big deal. A mistake was made and an apology and explanation was handed out rather quickly. Demanding more is just plain greed.

So i get an email saying i won a free copy of AOC  and been wanting to play this game so was very happy i get it downloaded over night go to my email this morning and it says from mmorpg we are sorry we fucked up and you didn't win and we let funcom know your key is no good so you can't play this is a load of bullshit own up to your mess mmorpg

We are all humans (well, some are trolls) and we do all make misstakes. To just hang the poor sod that made it is kinda unfair.

Besides he said he was going to try to fix things up.

Those facts wont make you feel happy of course but we all done stupid things sometimes. And you can't really believe that the guy could get a thousand keys in a day.

Of course the question is how many of the people that actually want the key, most who got the mail didn't apply for it.

So relax a little, keep the game on your harddrive and see what the admin can cook up the next week.

Ok, those that got the false hope generating email should have just got a private link to get a AoC download key.

Good customer service mmorpg.com. Actually, these folks weren't even customers, which is why I'm so impressed. Kudos, even though I don't think it was necessary. Compare something as small as this, compared to say an Airline losing your luggage and telling you you're SOL, or "losing" your reservation....puts things into perspective.
