Hello csthao,

We are very sorry but the email you received in the past 30-60 minutes from us stating that you won a digital download for Age of Conan was sent in error. You accidentally got this email because you recently won the beta contest for CitiesXL and our system had an error in the page designed to send the Age of Conan keys.

We have contacting FunCom and they are going to be invalidating these keys from their system so while they may appear to work now, any accounts created with these keys will likely be deactivated within the next 24-48 hours.

We are very sorry for this error. We hope you are enjoying the CitiesXL beta key you recently won at our site.

Well that was a big waste of time for me to DL the game then...

yawn, you can get the game new on amazon for like 4-8 bucks...if you actually intended to play it then you might as well just fork over the pocket change

hehe happened to me too.....

But, I have already played this game, so I didn't really care. I was going to give it away.

Man you're right, it's like $12 on Amazon.

It's sad, this is like the first time I've won something really on MMORPG and it's probably my most hated game. and now I can't even get $10 off of it haha.

I guess I'll end up giving it away or figuring something out...

Ya csthao, I also got that same message. Fortunately i also receieved a special offer from Funcom the other day to reactivate my old AOC account for cheap so i already was back in and didn't have to get disappointed by that message! Hopefully they get it fixed cause if I get a "fake win" on a big prize i am not going to be happy!

Yup, I've already played it, my bro bought this game when it released. I kept telling him to stop wasting money on games...I was planning on giving it to my friend who was curious about this game but havent played it yet.Oh well..

It was funny cuz, my brother who also bought Arch Lord for $50 a while back was playing it for about 1 week...The next week I saw MMORPG.com giving out free game keys cuz Arch Lord decided to go the F2P route....I was just LMAO at my brother...

This happened to me also. IMO the game should just be free to begin with. If they want to invalidate my key go for it.

I used the key on my account before I got the email saying it was an error. Is my account going to be banned for someone elses mistake? I don't want to lose all the promotional items and my characters for AoC.

No, I think the only thing that will happen is the effect of applying the key will be reversed.

Again, really sorry guys.  This is 100% my fault.  I made a template to issue the emails with keys to the winners and missed one stupid number in the template which of course caused all the problems.

Normally this would never happen because MMORPG.com usually insists on sponsors giving out all prizes from our existing fully automated contest system.  We made exceptions on the CitiesXL beta and AoC Dig Download promos and this one bit me since I had to manually code up some templates to do these emails.

If you made the template to issue e-mails with the keys I just want to say I have not received mine yet lol. Got my confirmation and I went and confirmed but no key or any info on how to download.

Wierd... I actually won a key, without any sort of error, and I have not gotten an e-mail with a key at all. I logged into mmorpg, and it popped up with a page saying I won. So, I confirmed it, and checked my mail. Nothing, and still nothing.... Oh well.

If you are a real AoC contest winner (this means you got the confirmation email and confirmed) then you will get your key in the next day or two I hope.  I cannot give you the 1000 keys I had originally since FunCom will likely be voiding them.

I have not gotten a confirmation e-mail, or a message in my private messages here on the site. However, I confirmed it when I logged into mmorpg.com, and I am even on the list as confirmed.... Is there something wrong?

System Error: By winning a copy of AoC, you have technically lost.  Therefore, you will receive nothing.

Yeah, I got it too which sucks because my wife was going to play with me as I have it already. Talk about getting hopes up and then FAIL!

Talk about overhype, heh.

It was pretty depressing to receive the prize and then have it taken, but oh well, I guess there's nothing that can be done.

And for those saying it's cheap to buy the game, it was for the sake of winning something, for me it was like being shown the way to play it, especially as I have basically nothing good to play right now until September's Aion release except for some game hopping around.

I got the error.  They should have just given them to us anyway.  Those who were later told about "real" keys would never have known, so they'd have no reason to be dissapointed.  Really upsetting, and poorly handled.

Doing the best I can here really.  I can't give those keys to the people that did not win the contest - they are technically FunCom's keys, not ours to give.  If they decide to give us another 1,000 keys and let the first 1,000 stay valid then that would be great and would make everyone happy.  However, since we are talking about a lot of money in prizes this might not be likely.

I will know more once I hear back from FunCom (5AM in Norway now so I have some waiting to do).

I am kinda dissappointed, but getting mad? For what? They were giving them out FOR FREE! So really its a win / win situation for the REAL winners (everyone else had a chance of winning, but you've only something to gain and not lose). The Admin made a mistake, they're still human ya know? Just be glad that this site has many contest offers. It really shouldn't be a big deal. I jsut made the thread to clarify if I was a winner. Its not a big deal, I'm moving on and so should all the other people.

It's not Admin's fault.

When have you ever seen anything involving AoC actually work right the first time?

I would hope that Funcom fixes this and issues the correct ammount of keys.  There are very strict federal laws about offering drawings especially on the internet even if no exchange of good or services is needed to win and then not offering the items without cancelling the drawing before the termination date.  In the legal since after the drawing is done you own your prize and if not given it is theft and now it is internet fraud which is federal.
