Nothing good to play.

7/10/09 11:43:43 AM#1

For the last  couple of days I have been ratting in 0.0 Providence, slowly filling up my hauler for a trip back to Amarr 1.0 Empire space.  My hauler (Bestower) carries about 5,000 m3 with a warp stab fitted.

Lately roaming gangs of pirates have been targeting Providence, and since the CVA and Sylph were out in full force last night, it seemed like a good time to make the run to Amarr.  The first 5 out of 17 jumps had blues guarding the gate, and I thought, "So far so good, should be an easy trip..."

Boy was I wrong!  I was 4 jumps out of empire and the blues were long gone.  I noticed a yellow pilot named Chalypso's Wrath in a Harbinger gate camping.  Since he wasn't a red flashy or at war with our corp., I didn't figure it to be a big deal ----  until he locked me.

My hauler is shield tanked with some resistance amplifiers and a medium shield booster.  Once locked, he took my shields out in one cycle.  I miraculously timed my shield boost cycle, and recharged up to full shields with only taking about 20% armor DMG --- 3 low sec jumps to go.

He proceeded to follow me to every gate for the last 3 jumps before empire, and each time he took out about 25% armor.  But my timing with my shield booster proved to me too much for him, and I just barely made it into Empire with about 25% armor left.

My palms were sweaty, my heart was racing as this was one of the most thrilling hauls I have ever made.  I sold off all the loot for about 70M.  MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

Perhaps the best part was me razzing Chalypso's Wrath at the last gate by saying in local "Nice try douchebag", then warping.  No other game offers an experience like this.

A Good Sandbox isn't about your characters abilities; It's about the players ability.

lol your hooked! Good job BTW!

17 jumps thru null and low sec in a bestower. Those are some mighty big ones you have. Just about any pilot will take out and indy just to see whats inside.

So why smack him and call him a douche bag? If he smacked first or something cool but you turned it into something personal by resorting to name calling.

I hope the guy catches you and takes your crappy loot next time.

Currently playing:

EVE online (Ruining low sec one hotdrop at a time)

Skyrim.

I understand that game mechanics allow for him to attack me in 0.0 unprovoked and without consequence, but he was trying to ruin MY haul and steal MY loot.  If there ever were a situation to warrant smack talk in a game, this would be it.

This wasn't a PvP arena with consensual participants.  This was me trying to transport a few days worth of work without having some jerk-off pirate gank me.  They choose their profession, and since they are the lowest life-forms found in EVE, they are treated as such.  If you have a problem with that, start grinding security status and join the "normal" population of EVE.

If not, sit back and take the abuses like a man.  Lord knows pirates have inflicted enough misery on New Eden, and it is quite pathetic that you are overly sensitive to smack talk.

Indy vs. Cruiser? I'd say the Indy gets to talk smack if they get away especially if the cruiser was pursuing. :P

The guy was going for an easy gank and it didn't turn out to be that easy. I'm sure he has been called worse by people he did manage to kill.

I thrive on risk.  I am a 100% commission sales rep IRL, so taking hauls through 0.0 doesn't bother me in the least bit.  I stick my neck out on the line everyday, mine as well do the same in-game.

Flip side ofcourse is that if he had killed you then all those hours ratting would have been wasted, not fun in my book. And that is the problem with Eve, its all or nothing, and nothing inbetween.

This guy was a very experienced vet, and locked me in under 2 seconds.

Please elaborate. What would 'in-between" have been in the scenario?

I had a similar experience but I was moving my stuff from one area to another and loaded up in my recently bought harbinger (Battlecruiser) i got ganked in low sec and lost 70million worth of isk and at hte time it was 75% of my wealth. about 18 months later i'd lose a freighter and 2 billion worth of goods, too bad it was only 8% of my wealth at the time. It still hurt like hell. Then i quit eve and gave my stuff away and now i want to come back but i doubt i will, compared to what i used to have.

This wasn't a PvP arena with consensual participants.

Wrong

You were in 0.0.  By virtue of being in 0.0 (or anywhere under 0.5 sec for that matter) you have implicitely concented to PVP.

Just a note:  Being able to lock a hauler in under 2 seconds doesn't make someoen a PVP vet.

Actually it's 'risk vs. reward' and those hours ratting wouldn't have been wasted.  He'd still have all his isk from bounties killing 0.0 BS rats.

You might want to learn something about the game before commenting on it.

Try and justify it as much as you want you made the situation personal by insulting for no reason, its also amusing to see you try and claim he was a lower life form yet it was you who behaved like a retard by throwing out random insults.

Regarding your comment about sensitivity to smack I have no problems with smack in game I just don't see the point in you smacking the guy for playing the game the way he wants and then further prove the point in this post by calling a portion of the player base jerk offs.

And you really need to wonder why the pirates and so called "griefers" enjoy killing people like you so much?

lol i woulda thought the pirate made it personal by chasing the hauler through 3-4 systems. This is EVE, i've seen people say much worse for much less. Pirates get people smack talking them all the time, and they deserve it imo, i dont see the point your trying to make. TBH i get the feeling your just trying to cause trouble/derail in the thread.

If you go to 0.0, you are infact consenting to the pvp that happens there.

I personally think EVE needs them. No I am not and never was a pirate, but the game would be far more boring without them.

Chasing a hauler half a dozen jumps is in no way personal, they just want to see whats in the pinata. Initiating "smack talk" in a situation that veterans feel are unwarranted will only result in a permanent place on a "hunt" list. My corp has forcibly disbanded corporations and alliances simply because one or more of their members went too far in local without a reason.

Being chased for a couple of systems isn't a reason to smack, loosing a ship to a better opponent isn't a reason to smack, loosing a freighter to your own stupidity IS NOT A REASON TO SMACK.

Getting ganked by a 20 man gang is - though nothing good ever came from smacking, the people worth smacking are the same ones that will just laugh and start talking about your tears, and how tasty they are.

Responses like that in local, often lead to you losing everything you own. Keep shooting your mouth off in EvE and see what happens when you end up camped into a station for a few days :P

THAT is what makes EvE rock, the ability to completely grief some loudmouth until he/she is so frustrated they decide to either (a) quit playing alltogether or (b) stop acting like a clown.

No other game places as much emphasis on the way you conduct yourself having an effect on your ingame rep, take note.

What do you expect him to do? Give him a thumbs up and a sparkly smile? This scenario has nothing to do with differentiating between real life and a game. It has to do with some asshat pursuing what he thought was an easy kill which turned out to be not so easy. When pirates actually challenge themselves for that so called risk vs. reward than maybe they'll get more respect than insults.

The only people who would do something as silly as this are the asshats who get called douche bags. Pirates are so funny sometimes.
