As an 80 HoX, I think they are probably the easiest to level. They were actually much more powerful back in the day when their melee combos did twice the damage. Now they are still effective, but mostly because of hellfire breath and their magical tree (possession). The very first thing you should do is max out hellfire breath; having it insta-cast is absolutely vital in any situation. For leveling either build works fine, but for PvP a deep possession path with horrible visage (stun) at the very least is an absolute necessity. They are still very effective in PvP, but because of the current caster imbalance due to combos missing damage when you fail to hit the target they aren't quite as effective as a necro/demo. Of all of the melee classes, however, they are probably among the best in PvP at the moment due to their extreme spike damage survivability (phoenix cloak, although it's on a cooldown) and magic aoe damage as well as CC (stun from desecrating essence once feated and/or avatar and an aoe root as well as a aoe fear you get later too).
This is a sequence of characters intended to produce some profound mental effect, but it has failed. |

Mine is only 23, but I've been having a blast with him. He can take down larger amounts of enemies at the same time thanks to hellfire breath and other multitarget abilities. I can take down bosses as easily as anything else as well. It puts my barbarian to shame. Plus, you know, turning into a cosmic horror is always win. Prax |

IMO, The HOX is the best class in the game. In fact, its the only class in game that uses the 2h sword for damage instead of CC. Great Fatalities too!

My highest level HoX is just mid 20's but I am doing a reroll for the trial. Just wanted to say you gotta love a class that lets you morph into a demon.
