I love the artstyle in Aion... it's called bishounen/bishoujo style where epic heroes in a fantasy saga are all beautiful/handsome strong people. I mean... it's not very thrilling if your hero looks butt ugly and weak... |

This is no different from people saying WOW graphics are too cartoony make them look more real... Beleive me I am not a big fan of the graphics myself... My powersuit looking armor, my sword thats twice the length and width of my body, the over all "cutesy" aspect of the game, oh yeah and the fact that the male characters all look like high school musical and the females like something out of a Gwen Stefani video... But all that said I love the game, I like the way the classes are built, I enjoy the campaign quests and never knowing when you are going ot get a new cut scene, the stigma system lends a whole new way to customize your character as well as gives them an easy way to "balance" classes... simply adding or tweaking stigmas can have a huge impact on the game w/o even touching a character or "nerfing" them.
I am in it for the game play, not the visual "cake and pie". The only thing Westernization is going to do is fix all the bizarro translations... For one I hope the fix the male combat voice that sounds like "Stick it in ya" and the high pitched sound of the female characters in combat that sounds like a Japanese Porn star having an orgasm... I mean c'mon someone put a pillow over her face already!
Bottom line is play it or don't... Noone give a sh*t and the game will be a huge success, because it already is. |

Look i play lots of games and always have, and honestly id play a game done in black and white with stick figure characters if the game play was fun and the storyline good, I got into the closed beta #3 and gave Aion a good go and have to say, I LOVED its play and story. Graphics are nice for anygame, but for me they are the icing on the cake, so good gameplay and good story and to hell with the rest. |

It's anime. I think it appeals to a younger, and or Asian audiience. I'm not a big fan. They make otehr games for me. I certainly wouldn't want them to make an Anime version of TOR for people that like that art style. Although this doens't look to bad:
But if TOR looked like this, I honestly wouldn't play it:
But, if it looked like this, I don't know. I might have to give it a try.

effeminate? OP, if in your area women look anything like this:
(image too big, click link) aionroleplayers.com/screens/aion_02_l.jpg or specially like this:
i can just advice you to move out
its obvious that the OP doesnt even have Aion installed, let alone tried it. The customization in that game is unmatched, you can basically make your char look whatever the fuck you want. Maybe the problem is that the OP actually likes effeminate male chars...? mmmmmm, interesting 1 million different people can point 1 million different flaws in WoW 5 years and they have been mentally incapable of coming up with something better |

Yes. I don't like the Anime style. It doesn't matter whether it's brand new IP or lore I never heard of, or something already exiisting. The girl in the second picture with the light saber? I'm not playing a game that looks like that, even if it's about an alien race from Zegba D and the fight for the Mazarati Neutron of Doom. Probably not going to ever play Aion, WAY to Anime for me. Big eyes, 10 foot swords, spikey hair, pokemon animals, girls that look 10 years old? No matter the story line, not going to play it. Makes me feel like I"m playing with 12 year olds. No offense, beauty is in the eye fo the beholder, I"m sure plenty of people find it gorgeous artwork and many mature people play Aion, just feels to young for me.

Idk, looking at FF13 characters don't look really animeish (big eyes and 10 year old's body), I really prefer that kind of style to what players usually look like in western games. It's not as 'dark' or 'mature' but that's just bleh anyway. I don't think the character models look anything like #1 nor #2 imo. Nor #3! |

Aion looks and feels great and it's not because I'm asian that I say that. Guys looking like women? Have you actually played the game or you're just a little racist pig, crying on fonts and what not? Have you actually played SEVERAL asian mmos to know the difference between East and West? Did you know that Korea is just a country? What makes you think that asians loves characters like Marcus from Gears of War?

No one will miss the fact this game has an asian dynamic. However, I dont believe this will be as much of an issue and I wager many north american players will aclimate. Western audiances dont have too much of an issue with anime , asian cartoon/movies, and asian games (as you mention in pokemon) |
Originally posted by liddokun Im sure you are correct i do not have a clue what its called, i just call it "Asian artstyle" and i too am used to it from playing the great console rpgs. I also enjoyed the tone of my toons voice when spell casting. An Asian made game has the Asian art style, there is a reason for it....its freaking Asian!

They told me I'd never survive, but survive was my middle name. |
I have a better idea. We westerners need to be less shallow and judgemental of other regions artistic taste and learn to see the beauty and detail that makes another regions work unique. They don't need to bend over backwards to change the whole game for our picky, shallow minded taste. The primary focus is, and should be on making sure the gameplay lives up to our liking if they want it to do well. There are millions of people in this part of the world who like that style, and millions more who simply don't care either way. Playing: Age of Conan, Aion: Tower of Eternity.

Hey, we agree on something. The customazation in Aion is unmatched as well. The models and graphics are extremely well done. The artstyle is fine. |

Maybe even make so the korean devs add some textures / decorators that will be used by the western guys. One with my problems with the game is that *all*, and with all, i mean ALL male npc's are efemenine. I am not a person that say "GAY" at any oportunity, but here is real, all the males in AION looks GAY. I don't think that can be modified, and I think is bad, if only because of the lack or variety
My character has horns a black beard and wrinkles. Try customizing your characters. Just hitting randowm, will land on Gay everytime. |

Exactly how does Aion look "Anime"? Its not drawn, not 2 dimensional, and the character designs certainly don't look anything like CLAMP's work. Maybe you're just complaining because a different section of the world has slightly different idea of what males look like? Image below is pretty typical for what I see for MALE pop groups in Japan/Korea.
Also, how do the females even remotely look underage in Aion? Where do you live that the 10 year olds are six foot with that kind of breast development? |

Last I checked, the US population consisted of 300 million people and not just you and 10 of your friends. Considering 300 million is an extremely large number, with all sorts of anime fans who probably only like Aion because of it's visual style, the game should bring in enough players to make it worth the effort. Either way, it really doesn't matter to the US. The game is created in Korea, is enjoyed by the Koreans and even if Aion failed in the United States, it really doesn't matter. The dev team is still going to work on it and still release content for their player base that's already established in their home country. They don't give a shit about it succeeding in America or not, they have plenty of players already. Everything we're seeing hit state side is just the finished product being translated by NCSoft's localization team. Big whoop. If you don't like it, then shut the hell up and move on.
What the hell is up with people demanding that games be altered to their tastes? This isn't fucking Burger King, you can't have it your way. If you don't like the product you see, then don't fucking buy it. All I read on these forums is people pissing and moaning about shit that doesn't even matter. No game is going to alter everything for a handful of dipshits.
So to get to my point. Clean the sand out of your vagina and move on. I'm sure you'll find that "un-gay" game that "totally has balls" and is "man enough" for you to play. People are acting like you're being forced by gun point to buy all these games. Get over it already. |

I spent 20mins playing with it and managed to make a warrior as "rugged" as the one i had in AoC. |

Please check your spelling and grammar to help reinforce your argument. If you don't, it makes you look foolish and inept. In turn, it makes people ignore your opinion. Radix Malorum Est Cupitas |

To take and twist a quote from a very funny comedy/action tv show, "Don't be an art bigot."
1000 nerd points to whoever can: 1. State the correct quote. 2. Show it is from. 3. Character that said it. 4. Who that character was saying it to. 5. Timestamp of said quote. 6. Episode number and name said quote is said. 7. The situation said quote was being used in. 8. If you are still reading these.... I think you need to get a job or a gf or both. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. |
