Oh wow.

I am an Aion fan and totally love the game however this topic has been a serious beef of mine and every single excuse I have read on this thread is pure lame fanboyism.

The simple fact that you can enter water indicates there is something planned for it, otherwise you would not be able to go so far in. What that is I don't know, it's either proper swimming as you would normally expect, or underwater flying or it'll be a simple message that you're going to drown.

The fact there isn't even a breath meter is a serious mistake and yes it does seem sloppy to those who've played games where you can enter water, you expect something to happen other then simply taking damage over time which really feels like a stand in system until the real thing gets implemented.

I don't care if you personally like to swim or not, the problem is that as is, it's a sloppy and poor presentation of one part of the game that many western players are going to find retarded and will reflect badly on the  whole product. It's like presenting a 5 star meal with one dirty spot on the plate, it's just bad form.

That's totally assuming that the water on that planet is the same as it is on earth, hell at 6 feet down the elements of liquid may change radically...who knows?? It isn't a science or tech based game so the population may not even have a periodic table of elements in the library.

While I am far from a AION fanboi, I just like it because it has a good pvp system and think some of it's content is corny. I would want them to put in housing, maybe player cities and some other elements not currently available in a quality game. Swimming is at the bottom of a very long list of things they could do to enhance the game.

I think the majority if not all of the "i want to swim" cries actually come from WoW fanboisms. And if that's the case then go swim in WoW.

yes, clearly, all of us who would like swimming in the game are from wow and are wow fanboys, that's why we want swimming.  Sherlock, you have solved the case!

LOL!

Every decent MMO out there has swimming. From MMO's released 10 years ago till MMO's released recently.

The only reason I can think of there is no swimming in this game is that they ran out of time and/or budget. Simple as that.

Tit for tat, I think complaining about swimming in a game centered around flying combat asinin. Am I supposed to call you a retard or idiot now??? Is that how we play this idiot forum game??? I say something that generalizes WoW, you call me a name and then I point out the irony of you getting fed up over what someone says???

But there we have it ladies and gentleman!!! I was wrong...AION ran out of money!!!!! bwahahaha...they got plenty of money bub.

So what! People have the right to complain about a missing feature. A very very common feature in MMO's that have water.

And what are forums for? That's right.... to discuss it!

You don't contribute to that. You are trolling. You are generalising with stupid comments about someone that  complaints about swimming (or any other subject that matter... as this crap generalising comments pop up everywhere like the plague these last years) must be clearly a WoW fanboi.

If you don't care about swimming... then you are perfectly free to ignore this topic and look elsewhere.

I have played WoW in the pre-TBC days. And now play LOTRO and EQ2. Wich also have swimming. I also played many other MMO's like Tabula Rasa and AoC... and they had swimming too.

What am I ? a WoW fanboi with a multi-personality syndrome?!

Cheers

Ya ya ya, maybe you should actually read the entire thread as I have instead of page 1 and page 5 and then make youself out ot be the fool. I have contributed to the OP 10 times more than you have and half of your crap was just personal attacks....what a maroon.

I have played 5 times the games on your list <twirls finger> all games do not have swimming AION is one of them...who cares??? some do some don't. But I am playing AION right now and the game is fine without swimming.

I feel for you being so wounded by someone stating a WoW generalisation, enjoy the couch.

- Its not a missing feature if it was intended to not have any swming

- i agree

- i dont care really

If you don't care about swimming... then you are perfectly free to ignore this topic and look elsewhere.

- so does every who is whineing about that they want swiming since the topic clearly is a question only and besides just coz all the older mmos have swiming doesnt mean all should have it.

I have played WoW in the pre-TBC days. And now play LOTRO and EQ2. Wich also have swimming. I also played many other MMO's like Tabula Rasa and AoC... and they had swimming too.

- and none of the games had flying from start so might that be why they have swiming instead?

What am I ? a WoW fanboi with a multi-personality syndrome?!

didn't really feel or look wrong from my perspective , Playing Gladiator with 75-100lbs of plate armor on i wouldn't expect to be able to float ..lol

but yeah i hear what your saying most other games i have played in deep waters you can swim but with Aion you really shouldn't run across that many deep bodies of water so there really isn't that big of a point to add it imo

My biggest problem is the underwater walls that Aion has atm. Still this is a pretty minor subject. Aion having well designed RvR and fast, fun pvp gameplay is far more important.

It's this simple:

Elyos and Asmodians can't swim.  They never could.  Sink like rocks they do....

You have insider info do you? No I don't think so.

Quotes lifted from Aionsource.com:

Quotes from Ayase:

Quote
As I have stated before, swimming is something we're probably looking at implementing closer to launch or if that's not possible, shortly thereafter. It's not a thing we're planning to leave out.

Quote
While underwater scenarios sure sound quite nifty, Aion is not a game that focuses on water and the adventures therein. As a matter of fact, Aion's focus pretty much lies on the opposite end of the Y axis - the sky. And with such a focus I feel obliged to point out that you shouldn't expect swimming - as a major gameplay element - to have much priority for pre-launch implementation. Having said that, however, this is still a world of possibilities.

Quote
The official, clear, precise, definitive answer is as follows: The development team is aware that some people want swimming and may put it in-game at some point, but not necessarily at launch. They feel that certain other parts, mechanics and elements of the game have priority.

They are looking at it (which in dev terms is, we have something we were working on but didn't have the time to put it in, but might later on when the more important stuff is released) it's just not something the devs view as a priority, my counter is still the same, it makes the game look unfinished, if water is not part of the game right now then don't allow people to walk under it, that's lame. :p

The reason for swimming is to take away from how horribly unrealistic it is to just trudge your way through at the bottom of water.  If they want a boundary they can use the invisible boundaries many other mmos use.

Which sounds like wasted development time to me.  Water leads to nothing the entire game, why should they waste time adding in swimming animations to go nowhere?

Why? It's call polish.

It's just one of those things, like jumping that EVERY MMO needs to have. Doesn't matter if there is nothing to swim to or nothing to jump to, put in jumping and swimming.

All the time they spent on the passive animations people will only see when they are sitting there staring at their toon not doing anything could be better spent making swimming animations, or drowning animations at least.

People say the passive/idle animations are so cool and add so much to the immersion, but you can't swim and instead walk on the bottom like you're wearing lead shoes? Lazy.

Super-gay. Give me a few hours I could learn to use whatever animation program they are using and making a better swim animation then walking on the lake/sea floor like a lump.

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Long Thread :P

Anyway, yes they should add a swimming animation.  Admit it, As beatiful and lovely as the game is, it seems rather silly that your character acts like he has Iron Boots on like Link :P They should just add an invisable wall at the shore line.

Really, MMORPGs should be more connected though to prevent this kind of problem instead of area by area :P

I over heard from some Devs at a tradeshow that the reason they can't swim is that, unlike humans, Elyos and Asmodae are composed mainly of sodium bicarbonate and other hydrous-reactive elements and are, infact, composed of materials that is close to those commonly found in Alka-seltzer.

Their skin protects them from some exposure, but total immersion results in a painful explosion of fizzing, bubbling and dissolving death.

The sloppy part (IMHO) of the Aion programming is the not including this death animation.  I mean, it would be worth a month's sub just to watch some winged pretty boy writhing and screaming as he dissolves the same way Alka-seltzer does.

That works too, being that sodium bicarbonate burns, but that would require a different, yet gruesomely fun death animation.

It's more realistic actually since you cant swim while wearing heavy armor or large flowing robes.

Depends on how many people you`ve witnessed flying using Angel/Devil-like Wings.

I find it hard to believe that so many people are so adamant about swimming. I mean, I can understand having emotes and other immersive features. However swimming just seems to be one of those things that, well, why. I know most people want it "just because", but I really doubt that most of the people complaining about it here would spend any time at all actually swimming in the game.

I mean during the beta event I didn't see anywhere that even made me think about wanting to try and jump in the water. Most of the water around the pirate ship was shallow (unless for some reason you jumped off the other side...) and the other areas that had a lake all had very shallow water.

In the end it really doesn't matter if they do decide to add swimming, I'd rather they do just so that some people would stop complaining about it, but I still find it to be a strange thing to complain about. Maybe it's because I'm not a big RP person or something, I don't know.

Sigh.

Does anyone have an update on the swimming deal? I really woud like to see swimming before a release in NA. It just seems odd not to have it, I cant believe some people actually back up the developers for not adding it in, its just a no brainer thing to have feature wise.

Can't swim in FFXI either and no one ever cared. Theres a few places where you can be under water and just nothing happens. Game has been around a while and is still kicking. So people who say you can swim in all other MMO's are wrong!! :P
