Since this is a game recommendation forum, I will post a game that you should try out: Darkfall Here are the reasons to try it out: Its North American server is set to launch on July 13th. "James T Kirk was a great man, but that was another life." |

I'm getting a real chuckle from the fact that the thread that you use to recommend the game is basically false advertising, ie, "Darkfall goes GOLD". Darkfall in no way has gone "gold" in any way, shape, or form. Both its sales numbers and subscription retention numbers have been poor. Making up a statement doesn't make it true, and it just makes a potential player even more leery about the game. |

I'm afraid the joke is on you, friend. 'Going gold', in the context of game production, means the development stage has finished and the game is going to print or is simply ready for release. It is not to be confused with the certification used in music that indicates a number of units sold. |

Oh god. dont ever purchase this game. Not because the game is full of bugs and more hackers than any asian mmo I've seen, but the blatent mis-leadings of the developers upon the community is far worse than any experience I've had to date with any mmo.
I laughed out loud when the news came from those same developers that they are accomodating US players on their EU server to transfer their characters to the new North American server, to only find out shortly thereafter that those North American players that the developers baited into purchasing an account to play on the Euorpean server were lied to and are being forced to not only purchase another account to play on the North American server, but cant transfer their characters; they have to wait 3 months to do so, and when they are transferred, are going to get hit with a $50 transfer fee probably.
Not only cant you play this game sem-casually, unless your one of the other disabled, living off your country's unemployment check kind of person, there is not entertainment or game-play value to this game, unless your intention is to be a pinata for other players. And there is no small guild opportunities in this game, let alone solo, because of the 4 conglomerate guilds, your prevented from owning a city or a hamlet, but honestly, both of which mean nothing towards game-play anyway.
The developers and this game go beyond an experiment in scamming people, its the real deal. |

Originally posted by Obamaonics Please avoid morons like this. These are dedicated trolls that flock to every Darkfall topic that comes up and try to flame it until its just ashes on the floor. There were a grand total of 200 hackers at one point in the game, that was about... 3 and a half months ago. They have since been banned and the number of hackers is level with just about any other MMO (no one ever truly gets rid of every hacker, its juts not possible, but I haven't seen one personally in... 4 months?) I don't know what bugs this person is talking about, because there are very few bugs that I've noticed, other than typos in quests, and ONE quest that I've been trying to do for a while, but it doesn't work. That's about it. I've been playing this game semi casually, with work, and school, and friends, and I'm doing fine. I make my own time, go on my own adventures, jump into large battles when I can as a mercanary. Me and one other friend run around all over the map looking at all the awesome sights, getting into scuffs with other players sometimes. Running and hiding, or climbing a cliff and peppering them with arrows and magic until they get scared off. Yesterday we took a ferry across a river, got jumped by 2 riders on mounts, trapped on between two trees and killed his mount, lured another one into a centaur spawn and had him shot to death, while we ran from his downed friend. These two players were better than us, but we still used our surroundings to kill him.
The game needs work, no lies there. It's an indie game, but it already achieves what most AAA titles cannot. Age of Conan craps out with 20 people on the screen, and has every zone instanced. Darkfall has twitch combat, aiming bow and magic and sword, and the fights get to be about 800 man large before the server starts to lag. That's impressive for a team of 30 people in a game with NO zones and NO loading screens. The game will continue to get patched, and with this free expansion, a lot of great fluff and depth has been added to the game, as well as solo and small group content. |

No hackers.....wait, ...huh? I left the game about 3 weeks ago. I could find 20 people cheating within a 5 min. search anywhere in the game at anytime. Botters, hackers, etc., are *everywhere* in the game, and anyone that says otherwise is trying to fool people.
Look up the famous "flying boat stealing episode" if you want to see how well DF works.
And strangely.....I never saw a battle that had more than 200 people ( and I'm being generous there ) *ever* in the game. The claims of "800" player battles need to be taken with a huge grain of salt there ( they'll post videos of these claimed battles yet somehow, when you take the time to do a cunt of the numbers, they end up with 100 players....go figure ).
This game is a classic example of "Let the Buyer Beware".

Isn't this the Looking for game forum. I thought this is were you post if you're LOOKING FOR a game. DFO has it's own forum to post in here. Shouldn't this be moved or deleted? Games as fun as Dark and Light. |

Please beware of the fanboi gun-for-hire a couple posts up.
After playing DF for a few months, I’ve seen the decline is the player-base drastically due to, not only hackers, but a substantial lack of content.
It’s a great fps if you have a group to run around in, but aside from that, there is little breadth or depth of game-play, and unless you’re a member of one of the huge conglomerate guilds, your game-play experience is even less, but that’s not saying much.
This person (me) is talking about those same conglomerate guilds using mob bugs repeatedly to be able to kill high gold-return repeatedly for weeks on-end to the point were money is meaningless to them and they can out-spend anyone else, or use the log-out and in bug to hide inside rocks to do the same thing, or to have built a ship or have a mount, and be subject to one of the many and frequent server crashes where you lose what you were riding for good. The small guilds have left this game, and will continue; they continue to leave, as well as solo players, once they realize that this game has nothing fundamental for them to take advantage of.
Just look at the DF forums, and you’ll see post upon post from players that have put in substantial time into the game, only to leave with such a disappointing attitude; it is to a greater degree than I have seen in another mmo.
No one, and I repeat, no one single player “jumps” into large battles without knowing your going to get killed, because even if you are blue-alignment to other players, you will get killed instantly regardless. Theres no rush to battle when you know one is going on, because not only can you not participate, unless you enjoy having a defeated character, but the landscape turns into a laggy slide-show. So again, the alignment system is meaningless in this game and not only offers nothing to game-play, but no one cares about it because anyone playing is part of one of the 4-5 huge guilds and has a city or 2, 3, or 4 to go to.
Yada yada yada…yes you can kill people and people can kill you. This game had much potentuial, but is nothing more than a smartly executed promotional scam on the part of Aventurine (Developers) to fleece North American participants into funding their first server, the EU server.
The game needs more than work, it needs an enema. There is absolutely nothing to do in this game. You can craft stuff, but to get that gold, you have to kill the same goblin 10,000 times to earn your gold, and then watch your character lean over a rock for hours on end while you mine for ore. And once you have your crafting items made, guess what, there is absolutely no, none, zilch means of economics or merchandising in this game. You can repeatedly spam a chat channel, but we all know how immersive and fun that is.
So again, in essence, Darkfall is a First-Person-Shooter with bows, swords and magic that has little to no lasting game-play depth at all available to the solo player or smaller guilds. There really is little to nothing to do in this game unless you bolt yourself onto a huge guild, but then again, your personal game-play value from my perspective is shallow; you essentially someone else’s puppet.
I’d wait for Mortal Online since their game-play with far richer and diverse than the empty world of Darkfall.
And to think that what the devs are delivering now is considered an expansion is a very silly impression; its nothing more than hot fixes for things that were either broke or mal-designed. |

It's still misleading no matter how it's used the natural connotation for "going gold" is this games a hit, which darkfall most certainly is not. ![]() |
