My opinion is that you  probably experienced the bad points of Shadowbane - there were many good points.  It was a Fun game, however the lag in seiges was EPIC, also respawn points were mercilessly camped.  The PvE element was also camped, but that led to some great PvP battles.  I loved the player made cities and once played for 36 hours helping to defend the city.  What drove me from it was the community of whining gankers, not the game itself.

To say WoW is the worst game is just being ignorant, it did many things right to cater to its casual customers. theres a reason why they are at the top with 11+million subscribers, granted most of them will never leave wow and only came tothe MMO genre because of that game. However there will be a certain percentage that will try other mmos when they get tired of WoW. Honestly though WoW vanilla was pretty good after the buggy release but, who didn't have a buggy release. Though it did feel that most MMOs after WoW were dumbed down so much. Its not there fault alot of people tried to copy them to get those sub numbers.

Back to the topic I'd have to agree with everyone that Horizons is the worst MMO I've played.

WoW didn't ruin the genre it improved many aspects of it. All the WoW clones that came after are the games we all think are crap and I think by now developers have learnt you can't clone WoW. To me what has gotten me down is there are no "hardcore" mmorpgs anymore that cater to my needs that're being made by high nudget developers.

WoW did do alot of things right, especially out of the gate. However, it is my opinion that by turning the main emphasis of the game into item upgrades, it transformed the community (and the communities of most games to follow) into nothing but a giant elitist loot treadmill. Hardly anything else matters to players anymore besides gear. Its really really sad.

Until WoW, MMOs were getting better with each generation. Gameplay, graphics, everything steadily progressed, tweaking and experimenting--evolving with each step in a very Darwinian fashion. Then Blizzard said, 'Let there be WoW!', and there was WoW. And I saw the WoW, that it was crap, and I separated the crap from my life.

WoW started the trend of lackluster graphics and mediocre gameplay with condescending mechanics being not only acceptable, but ideal.

Look at this progression:

  • Meridian 59 (1996) introduces us to graphical massively multiplayer gaming and PvP.
  • Ultima Online (1997) broadens the scope, introduces more customization, and allows players to own homes.
  • EverQuest (1999) brings us into true 3D and a new level of atmosphere and immersion.
  • Anarchy Online (2001) brings more consistent, compelling lore with the first big sci-fi setting, and better graphics.
  • Dark Age of Camelot (2001) introduces RvR and better graphics with several further improvements via expansions.
  • Earth and Beyond (2002) brings us into space.
  • EVE Online (2003) mercilessly crushes Earth and Beyond underfoot with a gargantuan galaxy, a full spread of gameplay options, and spectacular visuals to be kept ever up-to-date by an unforgivingly forward-thinking team.
  • Star Wars Galaxies (2003) launches with the most community- and immersion-focused design in an avatar-based game. Oh, and better graphics.
  • EverQuest II (2004) brings us voiced NPCs with lip-syncing, the first real inklings of story in MMO gameplay, and the best graphics to date at that time.
  • World of WarCraft (2004) introduces obnoxious overhead icons, a new definition of pointless PvP, crappy graphics, and several million newbies. Yay?

After that, it's more of the same and even more of much worse. No one tries to progress, they just try to mimic WoW or take its approach to further extremes. Vanguard (2007) tries to reverse the regression induced by WoW and succeeds for the first two phases of beta until it loses Microsoft's funding and ultimately Sigil's dream-team. Age of Conan (2008) also tries, though hardly with Vanguard's grace. Now here I am, waiting, hoping, ranting, whining....

I agree with you 100%.

WOW is a great game in my opinion but it created that new generation of crap. Instead of making the bar higher and making better games, WOW turned the MMO market into a huge mcdonald fest.

As I like to often say… WOW feels like mcdonald. It’s good and all but would you exclusively live on that?

EVE, DAOC… might be a good expensive french wine but once you tasted it, you’ll stick with it.

It’s sad to say but runescape has more depth then WOW…

What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever read. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Hey, your ignorance called, it wants to meet up with your complete lack of logical thought and go out for a drink to discuss how you have no fucking clue what you are talking about.

Your opinion is wrong, sorry.

City of Heroes/Villains....BLEH.

OH...and WAR.  I was a big fanboy prior to beta and preview.  Got into the game and hated it.

No, actually, he is wrong.

Anyone who thinks WoW did nothing positive for the MMORPG industry needs to have their head examined.

Vanguard or Tabula Rasa, but Its leaning more on Vanguard.

Its really funny to see people writing successful mmos here as worst MMO ever, just shows they are kids that just want attention. If you acually played some of the games your posting as your worst MMO you would be saying the stuff you are saying. But then again kids are kids, keep fishing for attention and when you grow up you will learn there is more to life than just you :-)

You got me "wondering" [edit] which games do you see folks writing as worst games that are successful?  You do understand that this an opinion thread and as such someone technically are not wrong and because someone thinks that a game is the worst despite its success does not make them a child.  Just my two cents.
