So after years of looking over forums on sites such as these, I have decided to finally post a thread of my own. I recently decided to buy AOC. So far its been loads of fun, and I'm pretty impressed. I'm not saying it's the greatest mmo of all times but it will tide me over until Aion is released. I'm not to big on listening to negative comments about games, because strangely enough it seems I enjoy the mmos that tend to be the underdog. What does baffle me is that so many people who claim to dislike a game so much waste their time spamming the forums about whatever game it is they hate. It's sad that so many people will miss out on what they may find to be a decent expierience because some idiot wants to go on and on about a how a game is so horrible. I find AOC to be a pretty decent expierience so far and nothing the wow-war-lotro kids can say will convince me other wise.(By the way, I have loads of hours in all of those games). Hopefully other readers will not let their opinions influence them either.

As I can only imagine......Let the hating begin:)

I think the simple fact is people can try the trial and see for themselves now. Before it was always either way. Now people can make an informed decision, or at least get most of the way there for free, with a little time of course.

I will say though that the best thing to do is not be-little other games and attach remarks about the players that play those games though. It kinda detracts from the point your trying to make.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion though, what is tough is finding justification in other people's especially if it is second hand info and that is either way.

There is the 1000 copy giveaway so I am sure that plenty of posters here that don't play who entered stand a good chance to try it. I look forward to their remarks during that 1 month unrestricted playtime. I doubt anyone will get to level 80 in 5 days either ;)

(prepare for a bit of a barrage incoming from the regular's, who will pick up on other parts for arguments sake. If you took out that one remark about the other games, I don't think you will have much of a problem)

I played AoC for about 2 months at release. I enjoyed it very much also, I only quit because my system could not handle the demand that AoC required to run.

I'm not hating on any other games, I loved every one of them for what they had to offer. I'm only speaking about those individuals who have played nothing but one or two titles and ridicule everything else. I think every MMO has something to cater to some crowd of people in the world. Sorry for the misuderstanding.

I get you :) I just don't think some other here will. In my book there are a few rea$on$ why you see the spamming of dislike, as after thinking for a while now (like a year later) I can not come to logical conclusion for time spent and gain got for those types.

I think the reason for most of the hate mail posted is because of the time and money people have found they have wasted on a promised delivery that never arrived, they kind of feel cheated and seek revenge.

Fun com don't help the situation by what seems to be a total disregard for the community’s wishes.

Companies and people who falsely advertise products will always draw criticism.

FunCom seems to have learned that, but some of their self-appointed reps haven't. Silly those same people haven't noticed that when they cease pasting up paper targets the shooting stops.

Wait until you reach lvl 80 (if you get there), find out there's nothing to do but zombie grind from lvl 1-80 mashing buttons then quit. This is how AoC went from 800k+ subs to below 100k now, we were promised a brutal MMORPG in the world of Conan for adult gamers. Instead we got an over instanced CORPG with half the features missing in a Conan skin. {Mod Edit}

So....should I undust my Age of Crap cd being used as a coaster? The box is actually useful as a doorstop. Got to 80 as a ranger, end game was chock full of nothing to do. All the good dungeons were converted to elite mode which meant they were impossible for solo play. I think I'll pass in lieu of Secret World as even the new hyped engine for AO has gone into lala land.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I'd rather not be fooled twice.

This does not even match my experience...and I am 46 years old. My guild consists of mature 20s, 30s, 40s (oh and a 60)

I have a full list of things to do from 1-80. Endgame now consists of many things from a mutitude of raids, Border Kingdoms PvP, several story oriented solo instance runs, crafting for your BK if you do not have it done.

This is the first game that actually kept me entertained to max level (and I have played WoW, EQ2, Lineage 2, CoH, LOTRO, and more...)

But, a trial exists that helps you decide...as some people still have no clue.

I'll tell you why most of the 800k+ customers at launch are still using AoC CDs as coasters,

1: Over instanced.

2: PvP is lame.

3: No drunken brawling.

4: Siege warfare is an exploit fest.

5: Crafting is a joke.

6: No endgame.

7: No blood money system.

Has any of this been addressed in the last year?

1: Over instancing? No this is a core mechanic and will never be changed.

2: The new PvP system is a lame diluted form of what was promised at launch and exploitable.

3: Still no drunken brawling.

4: Siege warfare is still an instanced exploit fest.

5: Still a joke.

6: Unless PvPing in Kesh for 2 weeks until you cancel is endgame, no.

Most of us aren't interested in doing endless raids after we've been grinding through those same dungeons from lvl 1-80. Border Kingdoms PvP? From what I've been told by guild mates the border kingdoms are desolate, as in no one is there so you go to Kesh ... still! Crafting for your BK, crafting is very boring even for crafters. Collecting resources is boring. In fact AoC is very boring and one of the most mediocre games I've ever played.

Some disagree, however the majority agree. If you enjoy AoC then I'm glad for you and hope you have many years of entertainment from it. However the majority that have played it agree it's over hyped, over instanced and under developed. I'm still waiting for FC to open new servers after the big rush of new players thanks to patch 1.05. Though the only players I see rushing are the ones going for the cancel button due to the game they actually like being screwed up.

But yeah, if in doubt play the trail then you'll know why AoC died before Christmass!

Personally I prefer a more reflected approach, critcal yes, but in a reflected way (militant extremist fanboism as onemight call it).

Serial-bashing out of bitterness after some percieved wrong doing by the big evil corporatons against the consumer, just does'nt do much except fill up the screen. Remember, we're talking about computer games here...

EXACTLY

SO - when talking about a game you'll have people who will call it the devil, and others who will call it god

believe neither of them!

read between the lines, do your research and decide if the game is worth your money and time

but if all we had were the god believers then all of us would get shamed! (as I did a year ago)

but Im willing to forgive, which is y i keep up to date and my assessment atm is the game is ready for release and is worth playing if you haven't go to 80 before, but i wouldn't recommend it if you've already done so.  that will be reassessed next patch, the endgame patch (1.6)

Can you change your title because it sounds really negative and implies "Why waste your time with the game" instead of what you really mean. How about "Why waste your time bashing AoC?"

wow! those people wasted 50 dollars! OMG, SEEK REVENGE NOW. Taking into account how much an average pack of cigarettes costs, and how many cigarettes an average smoker smokes....

People love to hate games and troll message boards complaining about things they know very little about more than they actually play MMOs any more.  it's a new revolution.  Scout mesasge boards for upcoming MMOs, cry about released MMOs, make WoW vs. X threads, Should I play this game threads, this game will usher in a new era of MMO threads, blah blah, etc etc.

if you like a game, download the trial and try it out yourself, posting on message boards about a particular video game is like asking people what you should eat or how you should dress.  People have different tastes, others like here "seek revenge" for 50 dollars that they will never get back =[, and troll for years on end.

nop, thats absolutely not true.

people quit after launch because of technical bugs and lack of content as primary problems. some of those people cant get back to AoC even though technical bugs have been totally irradicated and content has been added mainly because their machines cant handle it or because they are used to play with pre-teens on other mmos but when they come to AoC they get their a$$es owned by mature skilled players, so blaming it on game mechanics is a cheap way to regain some of the lost self esteem...

arguing that a game failed or should fail because there is no "drunken brawling" or because "the game is a joke" (whatever that means) is ridiculous.

If this game is so good why are they and mmorpg giving away 1000 games and a month free play. Something is not right in Norway. Im betting they are close to going f2p and moving folks over to The Secert World. These folks will lie in a heart beat if they think it will get them a Krone. Thats just my opion folks nothing more.

Why are they giving it away? they aren't giving it away, it's a sweepstakes, it's a contest.  And I'll call and raise you on your bet because my guild has over 30+ people on that are all over 40.  no where close to going f2p, and you would know that if you had sub. Instead of reading shit on line.

Pretty much the above is right on. AoC is where Funcom believes it can hold subscriptions and is launching a contest to draw attention to the game. Contests are nothing more than cheap advertising for a MMO.

Hello All

Let me start by saying I played the game. (My bad) For 4 months

The Game was released to soon. Shot and sweet. (Someone needed there money"NOW")

I payed my money, time, and my monthly fee to help them get there money. GRATZ

Thay gave me a game that WAS NOT READY. (Truth be told the people saying "NOW" were probable told it wasn't ready)

Now the "NOW" people have a problem, the game DIED to soon. (Losing money)

So the "NOW people tell the programers to get the people back to there game to save (MAKE) money.

ROTGLOL

Need I say more?

…..it’s a guideline, not a rule, as players we must remember: “It’s a Game”.

 Hello.

Yes, explain to me why you would say the game is dead?  Because I believe the opposite.  Players are coming back, players are buying the game after playing the trial.  So, I actually believe that the game never died or maybe simply returned to life?

AoC as a game is better now than it ever has been. Most of the Haters played ages ago during the era of the grey map bug and female attack animation bug.

The only thing that needs serious immediate attention is the imbalance betwwen melee and casters in pvp. However, in any pvp based game you will always have imbalances (aka Deathknight / Ret Pally in WoW).

Craig's next focus is adding more to guilds and the end game in 1.06.
