There are a lot of games out there, and they all have the same problem. They are way to linear. Wouldn't it be great if there were a game out there that you could play and actually keep playing? A game that had endless things in it you could do, so its just not same old same old. Because i know i am not the only person who thinks a little light needs to be brought into the world of mmorpgs. It happened once not to long ago with games that don't have to be mentioned for i think everyone knows. But it needs to happen again.

But, down to the point. I keep playing games like say WoW or a new one 12Sky2, and they bore me around level 20, wich is, yes, around 2 days after I try them. I'm at the point where i dont even play mmorpg's its just mmofps to me now. The problem with new games is like I said before, they are way to linear to get into. I want to play a game and then actually keep playing it because mmos are not at a place like that now. They are also way to easy which doesn't help. WoW has been beat in 7 days... Am i the only person who thinks the quickest you can win a game is say 7 days x10? But then not linear so all of those days are great?

The day mmos are the s*** again is a day I want to see. Because today is not that day...

I know what you mean....  I see that Turbine still has the AC servers up, I'm going to go back to playing it untill that day comes.

MMORPG Character Monuments

...When its time for your character to take a well deserved rest...

7/06/09 12:38:43 PM#3

Unfortunatly, this issue arises because most every MMO starts out the same way

PVE Level grind to <X> level

I always thought a good idea would be an MMO character swap.

example: you can trade your Max leveled WoW char to a guy who wants to play WoW for a maxed level AoC character which you want to play. Thus eliminating yet another PVE grind for both players involved.

Obviously this has several potential problems

  • issue of secutiry and scamming is the big problem
  • You have a high lev toon you dont know how to play
  • Your not as attached to your characters as ones you raise yourself
  • People may mistake you for someone else

No you're not the only person to tell the world mmos suck without providing information on how they could be better (more content doesn't sum it up) or a willingness to actually do something about the issue like make your own.  Just stating for the hundredth time that the industry needs an overhaul is helpful how?

Or just make the low-midgame in MMO's better? That idea is... only an artificial solution =/.

I wouldn't say artificial as it is game/developer independent. We can cry for better game content all we want, but what is enjoyable to one set of players is not as fun to another.

Again, just a thought

Those who don't find the road to level cap enjoyable shouldn't perhaps be playing those kind of games in the first place.

To me, it sounds like you are trying to play these games by yourself. It's not surprising given the way the game developers these days seem to encourage players NOT to group.

Too bad there are just as many people who do provide info on how to improve the genre, and devs either don't look at them, or don't seem to care.  Also, I'm tired of people suggesting that we should try to make a MMO.  If I had the skills and could put together a team I would try.  The thing is, I don't even like simple coding like CSS, so I doubt I could ever be a programmer.

I agree.  The devs don't always pay attention even though it would be to their benefit to read mmo forums.

Recommending that someone makes their own mmo is an illustrated point to how difficult it can be and how much work these teams really put into this.  It's earning a degree of respect for the people that do make them.  It also shows what features are easy to add and which would just never work out no matter how cool they sound.  If you're not good with programming, try doing it on paper like the devs do before it goes into coding.

I find it funny one of The most common complaints I see is the Devs. One of the main reasons I like PWI so much Is because There Dev team is VERY active in the game. Heck the other day GM's were Contributing to Chuck norris jokes which eventually got shunned from world chat. Some one was complaining about them not fixing an area of the map. An GM's responed back that they need a break too.

Haha... I don't know how happy I would be able GMs telling Chuck Norris jokes.  I hate them so much.  Also, we're not talking about how active a dev team is.  We're talking about devs not taking chances to make something different.  PW may be a great game, but it still falls very much into the same category as most of these MMOs.  It's another quest and kill game, and it's very similar to the rest.  Devs are either lazy, and just copy games, or they're scared of the risks, so they go the safe route and use what should work.

After just an hour this topect has been bigger than i expected, and I read a lot of the coments.  So i would like to add something... I read one talking about how the just think Im a boring person, well sorry, your wrong, because I believe mmos CAN be what they are not, so here it is. mmorpfps, lol. okay the name is wrong, it wouldnt be a shooter but it would have the same ideas, like puting a rpg into an fps. Huge battles, but with swords and bows.  Im talking Darkfall on stereriods! You could go on raids in castles have wars on huge plains but also a mellow place where you can go on quests like WoW. Now will a game like this ever come? Its a fantasy that i believe could become real. What needs to happen is people need to see that it CAN become real.  I need people to see what CAN happen not what is happening.  Say the game Oblivion for instance, put oblivion WoW and Huxley together and add millions of people? Now thats the sh** I'm talking about...
