Since Yellow Gremlin hasn't been updating accounts in over 30 days (unless you use their profiler which no one does) it seems that the only way to accurately detect increases is to do it during all hours while in game.

Tyranny which is the largest US PvP server has grown by at least 30% since 1.05.

So many more new players and so many more level 80 player who quit and have come back.

A few major guilds who have quit the game such as Reincarnation prior to 1.05 have had a decent chunk of their members return for 1.05.

Prior to 1.05 minigames would pop but only in prime times and it was infrequent except on the weekends.

Now minigames are popping at non-prime time hours during the weekdays!

Most of the time during prime hours they queue times are instant to 15mins.

A huge improvement from what it was previously.

The guild I ran on Doomsayer (now an alt guild) actually has members in it's list for the first time since Server mergers back in Jan of this year.

5 people I personally know who swore off the game months ago are back and really enjoying a lot of the changes with 1.05.

While the Melee oriented players might seem a bit restless they know that massive nerfs aren't needed (except maybe for AoE) and that their tweaks are coming soon.

Over the next 30days I'll try to get some factual active population census in game and compare them to the charts from a few months ago.

All this looks extremely positive especially when you consider the fact that Tyranny is one server you CANNOT transfer to since the transfer option became available recently.

Major props to the Dev team on all the improvements in 1.05 and glad to see that the game is still growing !

What are the reasons...specifically for the growth ?

Well I think the main reason is because of the fact that 1.05 addresses so many critical foundation and bug issues with AoC.

Prior to 1.05 the gear felt very generic and not very unique.

Stats were really not working hardly at all.

Adding value to the gear made the game feel more RPG to the mainstream players while at the same time keeping AoC's uniqueness.

T3 BK invuls are now capped @ 10% and fixed in general!

AoC had a nasty invul stack bug with Battlekeeps that had a lot of people ticked prior to 1.05.

You actually have a new zone that is easy to access and do world PvP in - Tarantia Commons.

Even if still can be zerg PvP from time to time a change of scenery is always nice.

MOST of the classes are happy with their class changes with the exception of Conqs, Barbs, and possibly Sins (Although Lotus sins are borderline OP sometimes vs. casters 1v1 heh)

Bear Shamans were disgruntled but mainly because of the increased micromanagement issues with the class now.

I think they have more spells to click on then the 2 other healing classes combined.

Rangers, HoX, PoMs, Necros, ToS, Demos, DTs, and even Guardians for the most part all came out with a positive from 1.04x.

Some more then others but still there were significant positives in each one of those classes.

Aside from maybe 3 or 4 classes this was a huge boost for everyone.

Also a lot of the Raid content was finally fixed!

Some of the boss mechanics and strats have changed so much it's like doing a new boss for the first time!

They need to continue their focus towards world PVP objectives, cross realm minigames (which will be awhile I've been told), additional minigame types, and PvE Raiding content.

Doubtful it has grown.   Why do I say this...because FunCom can't sell the game they have to give it away!   Check out the banner.

Really? I have voices in my head telling me that the server grew by 1 million% since 2 hours ago, I will of course provide facts at a later point in time, so for now just accept it as truth.

The game is in a spot where the Game Director believes the game is solid with the new areas and improved gear. He therefore wants to start generating more positive word of mouth. The easiest way to do this is to give away a few copies to peeps.

By the looks of this thread its much easier to head over to 3rd party sites and post fictional reports of huge population increases.

Not really, most threads on third party sites for any MMO are quickly filled with disgrunted types. A person is likely to see as many negative as positive reviews. The net effect is pretty neutral. Actual players make much, much better recruiters. Each person has a circle of friends that can be influenced (aka I am playing in Aion preview events and my buddies are playing AoC).

Alright, so in the OP's twisted alternate universe I suppose this patch was a good thing. But for people who don't live in bizzaro world it is a trainwreck just waiting to happen,

The game was better in it's buginfested and incomplete infancy than it is presently, I stayed with AoC for a long time despite it's numerous shortcomings, because there were some things in it that where still worthwile. The only advantage of version 1.05 is that AoC now takes a lot less space on my harddrive, no space at all infact.

Or...Funcome could publish the figures themselves.

The fact they don't makes me believe that the growth you "perceive" is more fiction than fact.

But then again, 30% growth on one server of less than 5K people might not be much to crow about.

But if you are seeing more peiople around, and comeing back, great, sounds like the game is getting better and better for you, hope it keeps going.

@Karbonoid Did you just quit AoC because of 1.05 or did you quit awhile back? Because one of you post history comments said you quit AoC months before November 08.

So I'm just curious if you tried 1.05 or just basing this off what you read on the forums?

[Mod Edit]

I was very specific on some of my details providing two guild names including one that left who returned that was (at one time) the largest Tyranny guild on the server.

It is true that we will never know what the exact boost is however I am estimating this based on playing experience from Beta to present.

However I talk in specifics while people like him talk in vague nonspecific anti-funcom lingo that has no merit or basis in reality whatsoever.

I was one of the harshest critics against Funcom especially during their Age of Gem fiasco with their old Game Designer.

However I think. as well as many others do, that Craig has put the game on the right track ever since he took the helm.

No 1.05 isn't perfect and there are some issues with it as people have stated. However it is much better then 1.04x  for all the factual reasons I stated including the increases to the majority of the classes.

Melee vs. Caster AoE in group PvP is an issue which they are going to address.

There has been a lot of vocal opinion about it that has been very negative absolutely.

Most of it was validated with some silliness here and there.

The AoE is out of control with a lot of caster classes vs. Melee.

HOWEVER overall it IS much better then 1.04x. No question. Can anyone say storm crown or stacked BK invuls? Also the fact that gear was relatively worthless outside of invul and HP/MAN/STAM boosts?

As I stated before some of my proof in the fact that the server is immensely more active then it was prior to 1.04x is the fact that it's populated now with guilds and players returning who we haven't seen in months. No big guilds have left on Tyranny at all since 1.05x however some have come back. FACT.

You still have all the high population guilds there:

Addiction

Primal Instinct

Past Redemption

Carnage

Usual Suspects

Genesis

DKK

etc. etc.

That is a FACT - Period.

I can list off a lot more people that joined then left after 1.05's launch.

So can everyone else on Tyranny.

Trolls can ramble on about this and that but they cannot dispute it since they're just trollers and never have played the game or play the game anymore.

If you're on Tyranny and are actively playing and would like to do some population comparisons with me regarding AoC activity pre-1.05 (1.04x era) and post 1.05 send me a tell on here.

We'll crunch the numbers in game and compare them to all the available data that has been collected privately and publicly regarding activity.

Avoid the disinformation and nonsense some of these Anti-Funcom people post who haven't played the game in 6 months have no facts about the game.

The only thing they know is what someone else has told them or what someone else who plays it has posted.

If you aren't familiar with the Author of the thread, he is rather famous both here and on the official forums for his willingness to post his wild and fact-less imaginings, hoping they will draw attention.

that was the impression I got

I played from before launch, took a hiatus for a few months and resubscribed in march. For a while it seemed like they were really intent on fixing the game, but it seems they "fixed" it instead.  If you like what they did with the game, then by all means enjoy it, But i don't think I've been as unimpressed by a big patch since the NGE.

I hope that satisfies your curiosity, because talking about a pointless game is about as meaningful as playing it, and I want to do as little of it as possible. It was simply the good deed of the day to warn some fellow gamers from wasting their money on a resubscription, 1.05 is not worth checking out.

The only time you run out of chances is when you stop taking them.

7/06/09 7:07:42 PM#15

Considering the sentiments (the vocal) have on forums about class balances overall the majority of posts I read on the forums from people from Tyranny have some inclusion of noticed spike in population around 1.05 patch launch along with YG details to back up that spike at that time when it was working, which points to what the OP is saying is perceived true. Although it is all perceived as no official figures.  A lot of people are a bit pissed that new folks can't transfer over too but it doesn't stop brand new characters starting up there. With 1000 copies going on this site I am sure new guys will try out Tyranny. For me though, not my kinda server.

Ninja is right though, same old guilds since release still there.

I think the full impact would be better measured of perceivement end of next month.

Until then, I am sure those who have it in for the game will be happy to provide accurate details.
