My list in no special order:
Balance
Nerf
Adjustment
Vision ("the vision")
Health (Long term health of the game.. usually followed by something which basicly kills game)
These are all basicly the same thing... Very bad game design or design choices. Which are later backed up with "rose colored glasses" comments.. from developers that want to defend their last few years of pay checks.. while the only thing they did was drive away their player base. Oddly the rose colored glasses always look to a time of higher subscription rates.. while the super leet developers can only point to their success of a smaller player base.
Then again companies get what they pay for.
The only other thing I'd want to add is a category for those special people that think MMO's require you to group. While they are unable to explain why in the largest MMO of all (real life) they won't group with most people and invite total strangers into their houses to look for uber loot etc.... Just like real life there should be things you can do alone.. and larger achievements that require you to personally fund a private army (or close enough).
*edit* I focused on terms used by Developers in MMO discussion. The reason I did this is because the mentality that became "common" in MMO development.... is the same reason the majority of MMO's are doing so badly. Oh and to clarify "doing badly" relates to the amount of subs a game has in comparison to what the company wants. Rather than players saying "oh my god a game failed" or "oh my god this game is awesome". Companies need to achieve different goals with subscription levels.. than fans do.
Slight hint: Of course when the primary design of MMO's turns to me collecting gears(abilities) to make me more powerful. They are going to eventually have to keep nerfing me. Or I will become a virtual god... This is the type of "game hook" they need to move away from. The reasons would be a wall of text even *I* wouldn't want to read... but the long term effects on the majority of games.. well its pretty obvious. Being able to choose the skills you want to use, offers much less variety than pre-made class based systems. -Future Game Developer |

GANK. Back when I used to play Ultima Online, 'gank' was used to describe a 'gang kill'. i.e Being killed by more than one person at the same time. Now it's used just to mean 'kill' and doesn't seem to make any sense when people say "I GANKED SOME NOOB". I ask you this... who did you gank them with?.... |

Some people type too much> Op request 5 numbers and 5 words. Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it. |

5-NGE: /facepalm. How can people be so pathetic as to torture themselves over a companys bad decision. Game companys have learned some thing by your pissing and moaning. They just throw in the NGE before release. Thumbs up on that accomplishment. 4-WoW clone: Just proves the user has no real understanding of MMO history. Proper usage of clone, would be UO clone or EQ clone. 3-Theme-park: wtf. I just don't get this one. So what if a game caters to idiots that need glowing markers to find their way around. New Flash - Life is Full of These Idiots. Get used to it. 2-Noob: Are we really trying to kill of the game were playing by chasing off new players? What does that say about the person using it. 1-Care-bear: A generic insult that can't be tied down better than "wimp"(imo). Usually says more about the opinion of the person using it. |

Agree. Eq has full Range Freedom. you can always go any were and do anything. if you have the strength. Really think about how many different places and creatures you could go kill at lvl 1. Eq has no general direction like most mmos. |

Interesting lists so far. Thanks to all who have submitted and to those who haven't, keep'em coming. Remember, this is just a list thread as we debate the meanings everyday, lol! Asheron's Call. The one open world, classless progression, live team content oriented game that ALL game sites and developers show little respect for as a template to pattern future MMOs after.
