Seriously, from all the time I have spent playing various MMOs, never have a seen players so defensive about their game then World of Warcraft players. Perhaps it is a good thing.

What do you think?

I think it has to do with the person and not the MMO. Friend of mine likes to play WoW. If I tell him WoW sucks, he shrugs. At the same time I encountered rabid fanboys in every MMO Ive played. Even more so in forums before a game is released. Just start a thread Darkfall sucks or Aion sucks in their corresponding forums.

It happens and there is really nothing you can do about it. People think their opinion = fact for some reason.

I am going to take a stab and say you are a WoW fan? :p

The reason WOW players have to be defensive is because WOW is always be constantly compared to every game, often more times by ex-WOW players or people who hate WOW than actual WOW players I might add.

Rarely do you see every game coming out compared to EQ, FFXI, LOTRO, DAOC, etc... but you can count on them being compared to WOW because WOW is the 1000lb gorilla in the corner.

However, as I said, it is compared by people who hate WOW so the comparison is naturally exaggerated or tainted in a negative way. This is usually due to the fact that person has not played WOW in a while or doesn't understand why people play the game.

The same thing occurred years ago when games were coming out and EQ players would compare them to EQ. It is just a product's life cycle and right now, since WOW is at the early majority/late majority stage (Rogers Innovation-Adoption Curve) it is naturally compared to all other games.

Punching a WoW-player in the face also makes them angry. I think.

How to anger a WoW player?

Tell them that they wasted all that time grinding gear just for an xpac to release in a year and reset everything.

Very true, you make a very good point. I agree with you. When you think of MMOs one of the first things you think of is World of Warcraft. It made MMOs mainstream in my opinion.

I've barely played WoW and will defend it against people who can't say two good things about it.   Motto:  "If you can't say two good things about something you aren't prepared to debate it".

Okay, I gotta ask... How in the blue, greasy fuck can a game be racist against another game? I'm calling up the Oxford folks and insisting they remove "racist" from the vocabulary since way too many people have no clue what the word means.

A game doesnt have to be complex to be fun. Besides, in other so called complex MMO's, most players rely on guides anyway. Its not as if they find out everything for themselves. MMO's are not difficult to begin with.

Its stupid to assume that people who like to play simple games, are not intelligent.

Like I mentioned earlier, it was one of the MMOs that took the industry into mainstream, through it's accessability to all gamers, and it's graphical level that ensured that gamers with all kinds of computer setups were able to play it.

I cant say that WoW sucks because I dont think so. I think that game is catering lowest impulses and selfishness, but its still a fun and good game.

I do think that WoW players suck tho....

The reason i get upset is simple.  Cause every game that comes out is better then WoW.  Something new comes out, better then WoW.  Doesnt matter if the game sucks, its better then WoW.

The haters just love to beat a dead horse over and over again and its effing annoying to hear/see it ever single time something comes out.

for example , saying wow is simple , or have low system requirements, even crysis runs better than current wow..

what is simple to you.. did you actually even raid ? cuz  0 ppl who completed xxx fight with set conditions from those 11 mln.. okay lets say 5-6mln leaving asia behind.. is surely simple , yet to  see single mmo thats hard on i dont know.. lvling ?

i can understand random person saying.. i played trial for first 10 lvls and found it boring and bleh , and its fine, its bleh  its just like every other mmo for first 20 lvls atleast , just with bit more polish and zero bugs ..

saying that wow players have no friends is silly too, since  the so called game reviewers will claim that half population are friends of a friend.. etc etc,, and its mmorpg.. you cant play one without friends.. rl or not.. friend is a friend..

I think you are off base here... but perhaps I'm wrong.

What pisses me off is when people say things about WoW that just arent true.

I suppose someone just saying "WoW sucks" does piss me off if I get the impression they are trying pass the statement off as fact or a general consensus instead of just their own opinion.

I have no problem with folks being dissatisfied with (or even hating) WoW..... but the nonsense many "haters" spread around is really aggravating.

My favorite is the statement that WoW offers no challenge.  Admittedly leveling to 80 is no challenge.... but there is plenty of challenge available at the level cap for those who want it.  The "hard mode" boss fights are crazy (OS with three drakes up for example), and no guild on my server (its an old one) has yet fully cleared Ulduar 10, much less Ulduar 25... plus there are "hard mode" fights available in there!
