Will TOR release in 2009 or 2010?

It won't release on 2009, because Dragon Age: Origins from Bioware is coming on October 2009. Bioware would be competing too much with themselves if they'd push 2 RPG games on the christmas market. |

Dragon Age is single player only, so I don't think it competes with The Old Republic, plus it's scheduled for an October release which means time for TOR after that, but still in 2009.

I'd guess at early 2010, but I just hope it doesn't come out at the same time as Mass Effect 2. |

I hope not either, I can only stay awake so many hours a day, playing two games at the same time is doable, but I don't think there is enough coffee in the world to support my habit.
My guess is SW:TOR will be out late May 2010, they would probably start closed Beta by October this year and open Beta the beginning of 2010. |

The game will be released when it is released. :) |

Look at the top of the screen. You see where there's the Star Wars: The Old Republic symbol? To the right of it, it says the game name, right below that it says Bioware and the game site address. Right below that, it says "Genre: Sci-Fi and Status: Development. See what it says to the right of that? The "est.rel N/A"? That means "estimated release unknown".
So tell me... what makes you think anyone knows what the release date is when this site would know what the release date is in advance?
No one knows when it will be released. Some say 2009, but the game is not yet in beta stage and its July already. The chances of it being released this year are very remote. |

This is an opnionated poll thread for people to discuss what they think the release date might be, I wasnt aware it was okay for people like the poster above me to come in here and tell everyone to pretty much shut up and not discuss something without his/her expressed permission :P |

The MMORPG.com preview doesn't sound like it's that far from release. They had everything working, probably just need to add some content and beta test and stress test the servers.

If you're going to stick it out there, don't be afraid if you get it cut off. |
A final release date in 2009, are you kidding me?! I would be amazed if we got closed beta rolling by the end of 2009. There is still a lot of work for this game or so it appears via their website. I would guestimate that 2010 for a final release date would be realistic. The sooner the better, but I hope it releases with no major bugs or defects. Heck, I'm just anxious to see the character choices and class system. |

I would be very surprised if it released in 2010. I've always expected 2011 or 2012. |

I am horribly out voted, and will have to concede that there will be no slaying of Sith until 2010.

They just released the info that they are making TOR a few months ago. How long have they been in production of the game? |

I've been out of the MMO loop for years. However, I beta tested many back in my day. If I remember correctly, doesn't it take atleast 2-3 years for development to reach a stable level to support a large number of players? I remember games being announced at E3 back in 2003 that released in 2006. So, unless they've greatly spead up the development process, I'd say very late 2010 early 2011.

Originally posted by throckmorton Word had it that they started work sometime in 2005. With most MMO's coming out sometime in 3 to 4 years that would put TOR on track for the most part. |

TOR began active development in Dec 2005. I personally believe we'll see launch in Q4 2010 or Q2 2011. |

In the UK, the websites that are taking pre-orders (for very attractive prices) are stating end of November as a holding date. So I would geuss EA has told the retailers to hold space on the shelves over Xmas, although I would geuss that Jan/Feb is going to be a more likely date. |

They are using the Hero Engine. Supposedly, it's stable right out of the box. I'm not saying they didn't do a lot of programming and add a lot to the engine so it would do what they want it to for their game, but they didn't start from scratch building an engine. So that should have, in theory, sped up the development process.

I would be shocked if it came out later then 2010. 5 years for a game using a engine that is suppose to cut down dev time? I am thinking early spring release with a beta by the end of the year. Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.
