I found this info buried in a thread so I'm not responsible for finding this. Maybe others already have commented and know, but figured it wouldn't hurt to have this thread. After the patch my fps dropped to around 15-20 fps with dx 10 enabled, and all tweaks seemed to not help much. Then one simple fix gave me fps of around 35-50 with ALL dx 10 settings on: Shadow resolution = high (in advanced graphics option tab) Not ultra, not medium, and not low. All those options reduced fps significantly. ONLY setting it to high gave me the boost, and other people have reported the same. Not sure if it's due to specific computer hardware setups, operating systems, or what, but try it out and see if it works for you. |

WARNING DO NOT TURN SHADOW RESOLUTION TO HIGH !!!!!!!
I tried it but then like 5 minutes later i saw smoke comming from my computer case so I unplugged it and got a screwdriver and opened the case.... apparently the hamster inside it got upset at me for changing it to high and must of started gnawing on some wires and got itself killed in the process so the smoke coming from inside my case was burnt hamster flesh and fur.
So if you don't want to turn the hampster living in your computer case suicidal don't turn shadow resolution to high.

I've also found that godrays kill my FPS. I can run 1900x1200 DX10 everything maxed except godrays and get around 40fps. Turn on godrays and I drop to the teens.

setting graphic to max with all those lighting and hdr will surely make some smoke coming out from your pc if you have...
1: 8800 GTS G92 with 350watt psu 2: 9400 GT with 300watt psu
i was stupid enough to try installing my 8800 gts g92 on 350w psu then while playing tomb raider underworld maxed out..... white smoke starts to be visible and seconds later.... psu out.
if you love playing games on max setting without worrying to see smokes... make sure to have psu that is high enough to handle your high-end graphic card and if you have low-end graphic card such as 9400 GT or 4350, dont bother setting modern games such as aoc or cryostasis on max setting or you wil probly see smokes after a while. it wont be even playable anyway but still if you leave it on... you will probly see smokes. |
