PC Gamer UK said it's only 100 people per server........... which obviously means it isn't an MMO.

I wasnt aware of the 100 player limit. By the general definition of MMO you need > 500 I believe

The technology just doesn't exist to allow for a massive amount of people to play a true FPS together. Well, at least not in any affordable, marketable form.

There is only one MMOFPS and that's Planetside. It never really hit it big....kind of shows a lack of a market for this type of game.

In all honesty, I don't see much playable difference between 100v100 and 500v500 player battles....

The definition of MMO is changing, and many games that don't meet one or more of your, mine or his criteria are being released. But since even the players on this site can't agree on what makes a true MMO, I think it may be time to open our minds. If a particular feature or lack thereof, keeps it from being an MMO to you, fine. But really, who cares? It is a game, you can play it with others, you have some form of character progression. That's going to be enough for me from now on.

Think of it as GTA in a persistant world with up to 100 players. That may not fit the definition of an mmo as I think of it, but that doesn't mean it won't be fun to play. BUT it does mean that I may not be as willing to pay a recurring sub fee for it. But I'm an old schooler mmo player. I freely admit the changing definition of mmo's to mean effectively single player games with multiplayer is leaving my old ass behind.

Still I'm open minded. I'll try anything with a free trial.  I'm hoping this game lives up to the hype cause the visuals and the descriptions of play got me jazzed. However so did AoC's and we all know how that turned out.

So 100 to a server or 100 online at once.? If it's 100 to a server you may only get 10 people online at once.

It does, Planetside is how old now? 6 years?

They are instanced servers, like crime craft where u can go join and fight, i think.

Think of it as another great opportunity to argue with its players about whether or not its an MMO

Kinda like guildwars

btw ur still not playing an mmo guildwars players. Go sit in ur corner

Wrong. My experience from Planetside was that it was very, very laggy spawn camp all the way (no sugar coating). And those mechs were something of a game breaker (I might be wrong). So yeah, no market for those.

Jeez. Even Endless Ages did better. Ever heard of that?

If there's only going to be a hundred players for each server, it's not an MMO, sorry.

I'm not going to start calling every FPS with 60 player matches MMO either.

Its NOT 100 per server. Its something like 100 per "City" Instance, or some such. I haven't read any clear explanations on how the instancing works yet.

All the more reason to refrain from calling it an MMO for now. If the server isn't based on a persistent world but just dumps players into open instances, it's not an MMO.

Imo, they should just remove it from the list until they can show us why this should be worthy of the MMO tag. It's a nice marketing trick, but I haven't seen any resemblance to MMO in the slightest.

A) Approximately 10,000 players per world consisting of 100 player district maps.
