I don't have time to read everything about the future releases but i would like to know if any game is worth waiting for. And i want a TRUE MMO game. That means:

- one server, no instances, huge open world,  player controled economy and meaningful crafting, death penalties (not hardcore though) and in the end some lore too :).

The only game for now that fits my description of a MMO game is Eve. But Eve also has it's bad faces.

I know that there are some technological limitations when making a game with only one server/world but i dont get why there are some , in my opinion, useless restrictions. Where not possible to host many players in a single location at a give time then be creative. Why don't devs think outside the box ?

Let's take WoW for example. I can understand why more then a fixed number of players can't be on the same server at the same time due to bandwidth and hardware limitations, but why are your characters tied to a single "server" ? If you find out you have a friend or a new colegue playing on a different server what do you do, you start over there, you pay extra to move your character (if it's even possible) ? Why not make a "character database" separate and NOT tied to a server DB.

Why not make something like Guild Wars did with their city instances ?? For games with many subscribers (like wow) why not make several copies of the same world and when you login you chose one of the multiple "shards" available. This way you and your friends can go to a shard all together. Why all the hassle with server merges or character transfers from a server that gets low on population ? Is that complicated to have character info saparated and not restricted to a single server ?  This would be a step forward towards a single server game, an intermediary step needed due to the current hardware and bandwidth restrictions.

On a different note I'm also sick of easy mode fantasy MMOs made for kiddies with elves that die and respawn without any penalty ; with the same character development table of  "collect x" or "kill y" quests.

So, my question: is there any light at the end of the tunnel ? Or the same blank rubbish "MMOs" wrapped up in shinny new foil ?

So you want an EvE clone? Good luck with your narrow definition of a "REAL" MMO.

I have to say I do not like games that have channels on each server. I really can't give an answer to why, it just bugs me to death.

I do not want an Eve clone. I just pointed out that Eve fits what a massively mutiplayer game should be. If you only understood that then i don't know who has a narrow understanding of things.

More then that, anyone is intitled to an opinion and i just expressed mine. I just asked if there is a game that come close to what i think a MMO should be. The market is over saturated with EQ/WoW-ish clones and it's beyond me why more and more companies make the same thing over and over instead of trying something different.

Your original post did not say it was your opinion. In fact those capitals for TRUE MMO were very emphatic and unequivocal about 1 and only 1 way for an MMO to be.

In MY opinion, one server, non- instanced games are a thing of the past. There may be a niche game or two that will try it again, but the mainstream is going in a different direction. It takes too much of a computer  to have a single server, totally non-instanced world.  (Unless your just animating the vastness of space, a few ships and planets, some shhooting animations, like in EvE).Why should developers limit their  potential playerbase to cater to the elite? I want a smooth gaming experience, and if that means limiting population in favor of better graphics, so be it. Of course, that is just what I want.

You are probably right, but I also hate instances.

I'm waiting on another open world MMO.

This year had nothing except for Darkfall.

Thank you for your suggestions. I've tried, when released, to buy Darkfall but i couldnt and i gave up. Then i've read many posts about hacks and that turned me away from this game.

I'll wait for FE now :)

As for better smooth graphics vs number of players, i think the main problem with many players online is the bandwidth not the computing power. The game world is saved and generated by your computer. You only get information from the server where you are (among many other things) so the game knows what to display. The server is not sending you textures or animations or stuff like that.

If that's a true MMO, then I prefer the false ones.

Check out Mortal Online, it seems the most next-gen out of all upcoming mmos.

Im Hoesntly going to reccomend Mortal online

Deep crafting, So much so u pick the metals u wish to use in ur armour resulting in different weights looks and strengths depending on which parts u choose and which mats u use to make them

Can even have pure gold swords which are very heavy not very sharp but look pretty cool etc :)

Also pvp is much like darkfall so it has promise!!

As for Fallen Earth so far its rather dissapointing, i really think there is an aweful lot to do to make this game good and bring it up to a par with games like Neocron which its striving to replace
