You prolly will wonder, what kind of question that is, but after watching several Aion videos, I felt that the combat is sort of... slow. Esp. in soloing, it seemed to take ENDLESS to me until that mob was down, as if every spell did very minimal damage. So I wonder about the pace of the combat. In a beta I am in atm which I must not name, I am now used to a much faster paced combat, and actually I enjoy that more, than this EQ-ish sort of "hack 3 min on mob X" sort of uber slow hack hack hack. Another thing of concern was this lolcoperting. Most chars in the vids seems hopping and running like being under some drug! I hear directional attacks do more dmg and moving sort of raises stats. Does make me feel uneasy. I never could stand circling and hopping around a mob, and practically being forced to, sounds odd.
Anyone experienced in Aion who can clarify? |

I have yet to really use it much and it seems that it might be more usable for melee as I've not really needed it with my sorceror. So the combat is not as fast as blade and soul but not as slow as LOTRO. But again, it depends on class. My Sorcerer kills very quickly yet my cleric took a while. the fighter I made was sort of medium but could withstand more whereas my sorceror had an issue with more than 2 mobs. I could kill 3 but it took quite a bit of running around, slowing, rooting, etc. |

I don't consider it slow, although in PvE you may have to sit down to recover HP/MP after every few kills the recovery when sitting down is very fast (press the comma key (,) to do that), if you want to grind you want to do it in groups though in elite monsters, otherwise you have specific tasks at hand that are your quests. It's not easy, don't expect to go steamrolling mobs in areas of your own level - you need to be careful, or you'll be running like hell to survive, and that's why I like it. Sorry for my WoW comparison, but my hunter can grab 3~4 mobs of the same level as me and still survive, that feels too easy and I like challenging stuff (I don't mean retarded stuff like taking 5 mins to take down a single mob to gain 0,01% but my concept of fun involves challenging content). |

You're not forced to lolercopter, but it helps. If the combat were any faster the game wouldn't be playable. I already hear that you can get 2-3 shotted at level 50. I certainly wouldn't play a game where I get 1 shotted. There needs to be some reaction time. LineageII | LoTRO | RFO | 9Dragons | Aion | Perfect World | Ether Saga | Dungeon Runners | GuildWars | Hellgate London | tCoS | Warhammer | AoC | Tabula Rasa

Personally I think it's a great addition, allowing you to "Dodge" by moving left or right, and even take a defensive posture by moving backward. It actually requires a little thought instead of the standard key spamming that many are use to. It's not required, but it's there to give you an added edge if you want/need it. |

People only get 2-3 shotted at level 50 when the have very little skill and gear. Knowing the class and using the right + stats in your gear make you so much more survivable. Plus it also depends on class, Sorcs are not meant to take hits, while a Gladtiator/Templar is meant to take multiple hits. |

Sounds like you're after a more simplified combat system, maybe try World of Warcraft? Aion Gives you Wings!!! |

There was a dispute in my guild (EU beta) about how long a chanter needs to kill a 2dot mob same level. Opinions were from 30sec - 1min. |

Funny considering Aions combat is WAY more simple than in WoW. |

I would rather it take a long time to kill each mob : X It involves more strategizing and allows you to use all or most of your skills to take down even level mobs. |

Well, just some ideas... Level 1 vs. Level 1 Mob = 3-4 Hits The problem with combat at level 1 through 10 isn't the pace, it's the lack of abilities and the amount of cooldown time of the abilities you do have. Also, casters have an easier time taking mobs down quickly vs. melee and healers. Those two types of classes are however more durable than casters. |

Takes about 15-25 seconds to kill a like leveled normal mob on my assassin in C-AIon. You're probably looking at 25-45 seconds if your playing a templar. It's all relative I guess. I personally find grinding w/ a templar to feel a bit slow, but my assassin feels pretty spot on. Of course the templar pretty much has no downtime, so the difference isn't that huge. |

I thought what I'd do is I'd pretend I was one of those Deaf-mutes. |
Honestly Aion's speed of combat is on par with that of WoW i'd have to say. Slower combat is games like EQ2, LOTRO, EQ1, FFXI. Though honestly I don't see a huge difference... Its not like the gap is that huge. |

The mobs in this game don't seem to be paper thin, like other games, thus give the illusion of slower combat overall. |

FFXI's combat is SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW. Slow as in I'm going to make a sandwich and I'm still locked into this STUPID yagudo p.o.s. Seriously though, go play FFXI for a week then come back and say Aion's combat is slow. |

Depends on the party... and the type of mob you are killing. There are 4 levels of mob, you can tell them by the shape of their HP bar. Regular mobs you can solo them pretty easily in about 20 seconds Party mobs will require about 30~40 seconds assuming you have a well balanced party Boss mobs will require about 2~3 minutes assuming you have a well balanced party Force mobs will require about 5~8 minutes... Now this number is just to give you guys an idea, and that's how long it usually have taken me in my experience... |

There is a difference between "simple" and "slow paced". I played WOW ony brief and years ago, so I cant say about that, but today I seek a bit more fast paced combat, than this "hack 5 min on one mob". That is for me this sort of EQ era combat, which I just outgrew. That is not simple or difficult, it is just faster. Its what I loved about Tabula Rasa. In that aspect TR was cool, it was really fast. But simple... is something different. |
