Hell, AmazingAvery gets ripped a new one at least twice a week in the AoC forums, yet he's still there.

Everytime I read someone who rages on this game, no matter how hard I try I can not help but think that these people who rage on it are playing one of the following games

WoW, WAR, LoTR or Aion

which I find hysterical to be honest.

 Humm I've personally seen AmazingAvery's post be attacked on personal levels by DF fanbois posters. I can't say I've seen him post here attacking DF fans maybe i missed it. <shrug>

 Ok I'm not really sure what your mental inability to think of players that don't  like DF playing Eve, DAoC, Linage 2, EQ etc has to do with anything really. I mean you can log well over 2000 posts in a year to shout down and mock anyone with doubts, but you can't continue to pay a year subscription and stay true to the game you so severly hyped and defended day and night over a year (s)?? Remember DF has POTENTIAL. Keeep sending your money to Tasos keep the dream alive. Now go out there and buy your second account on the NA server now!

It is a bit ironic how quickly they abandoned the game that they hyped for so long. 

Now I wonder if we were to go back and look at some posts from 6-8 months ago... did any of us predict that they would be doing exactly what they are doing?    Hmm....  

Perhaps now some of them will realize why we were skeptics back before Beta even started.  You know the skeptics that Tasos railed against.  The skeptics that have time and time again proven to be correct on just about every single aspect of DarkFall.  Yeah, those skeptics. 

Great post, very well said and echos my sentiments about these people as well. Yes indeed, the game is so hardcore that even the diehards are following the rats as they jump off the sinking garbage scow named Darkfail.

Actually the best that could have happened to the DF community, is eternal closed beta, with voluntary sponsoring programs, DF t-shirts, DF mouse pads, and other sales regularly, instead of monthly.

Exclusivity inside the DF closed beta, so called NDA, forum restriction to beta players, and exclusive t-shirts, mousepads, bed sheets, dining sets, rugs, door bells, soaps, ... will give the fans endless topics to show off their DF epeens and maintain the myth that DF has it all.  Since no one can refute it.  NDA ftw.

Once the veil is lifted, it all goes downhill, well down a cliff more like it.  Even clowns like Javac run out of steam trying to paint a glossy  picture of DF, as everyone else can look at the emperor's new coat, and see for himself.  Spinning won't work any more.

In my opinion, Darkfall is a fairly good game. I was very much interested in it since 2008. I even intended to start at the North American Server launch, but then, come Christmas, a member of my family gave me an IOU for a year's subscription to Darkfall when it came out.

I didn't have the heart to tell my son that the launch was delayed, and only released in Europe, So I started on EU-1 with the expectation for a clean transfer to NA-1 when it goes live.

Now to be fair, let me remind you that the game mechanics is pretty good. I had no problem with graphics or PvP.

What I did have a problem with was the following:

1. Aventurine, as a company, just plain sucks. They do not give you details, leaving a lot up to speculation. I was recently stunned to hear about the 3 month wait, with no items, with a transfer charge, policy.

2. Every person ends up with all the same skills, maxxed out. I find this boring. I believe that everyone from the beginning should have the ability to choose, but have limits based on their choices. There is no mage, fighter, archer, etc. There's just a bunch of guys running around in full armor with magic wands, with swords, with bows. I do not find this challenging or interesting.

3. Too much nakedness. If the game reduces you to wearing nothing, simply to be safe, then its not much of a game.

 

And, therefore, I cancelled my subscription about 3 weeks ago. I'll get a chance to see the expansion, but it doesn't really matter. Aventurine, once again, talks about an expansion but gives very few details. I read the 10-question interview with Claus...not impressed...he leaves more to speculation than specifics.

My friends. There's a lot of good things that could have been said about Darkfall. I'm just not interested in saying them anymore. You can look at my post history to see how my opinion has evolved.

The only thing I'm sorry about is that my son's money got wasted.

By the way, if you're a fan of Darkfall, more power to you. My only advice is to keep working at getting Aventurine to communicate with you.

This kind of honest criticism is much, much better than the blind devotion posted by the "fans". They are hurting the game, instead of helping it. Nothing is so good in this world that doesn't need constructive criticism.

 To me that is the difference between a fan and a fanboi. Realistic enthusiasm or blind devotion. Actually that is why it is pointless discussing pros and cons with a fanboi. Fact's that are plain for anyone rational to see somehow can not be seen by the poor devotee. Many parallels with cults.

Agreed, I have to thank the poster as well.  It's not often you see such an honest and objective post from a player (or ex-player) of this game.

Yeah you  have to wonder about that.   But then it's hardly surprising when there is steadily less and less to defend.    Lobotomist said it best in his post.   If any game deserved to have something like that happen, it was this one.
