I have already pormised myself, my family, and my freinds that this game will be my last ever mmorpg.
A few reasons to this are
Im going into Cal State San Marcos next year, And Am going to try to get my degree with the highest GPA possible I waisted way to much of my time on many mmorpg games that quite frankly I did not enjoy much. I feel there are more productive things and other hobbies I would like to try outside of just mmorpgs.
So, Aion is it, If this game is not enjoyable to me, Ill finish playing Guild wars (Which I already have) until it shuts down and then I am officially done with mmorpg games for good.
I have been on all of the beta events (except Korean Closed) so far. I really do enjoy the game's look and feel, but never got beyond level 18 so I don't really know how bad the grind gets, or if it continues to be an enjoyable quest based game.
Whatever happens, I am willing to put all of my eggs in the Aion Basket, To be honest I think I made the right choice...when I decided this 2 years ago the baskets I had to choose from were Aion, Age of Conan, and Warhammer. I picked Aion.
Anyone else here in a situation like myself, basically hoping Aion will be it for you and you can finally say you found a game you enjoy? IF not do you plan to quit the genre? Just curious since this forum has constant complaints about how bad the mmorpg genre is right now, I would assume a lot of people are hoping for Aion to be great if not they will leave.

I'm leaning more and more towards giving Aion a try.. but.... FF XIV and SW:ToR are probably going to be my last effort to enjoy a MMORPG. Well, I guess that depends on what Blizzard's new MMO is going to be.. hope they announce it at Blizzcon. "You'll find a great many of the truths we cling to depend greatly upon our point of view." |

Last one eh? That's pretty heavy. I've been through a lot of life changing events over the last 10 years but not one of them made me want to quit MMORPG's. I got my master's degree with a 4.0 GPA, got married, lived in a third world country for a couple years, had family get sick and die, started and stopped half a dozen different hobbies. None of them ever conflicted with my MMO gaming or my desire to play them. |

Another Fantasy MMO with next-gen graphics. Think if Diablo were made into an MMORPG except it's third person instead of the over the top view. From what I saw of it, you can adventure above ground, but eventually most of the adverturing is done undeground in this hell sort of setting. Then again, it was really early stuff. |

I would LOVE the ability to pay for hours of play.
As long as its something of a fair price, such as 60 hours of in game time (logged in time) for $9,99. or 80 hours for $14,99 I would love something like that. |

I've told myself and friends similar things. I've left MMORPG's for many months at a time, but I know myself better than that now. I will play MMORPG's off and on until the day I die. I know this as fact now. I grew up with them, and I want to see how far they will evolve in my lifetime. You are smart to focus on school and life issues over MMO's, but one day you will find a balance where you can really enjoy MMO's in a more casual way and I think you will be back. Aion is a good game to have fun with for a while, but man FFXIV I wouldn't pass up for anything. Most of these shallow MMO's only hold me for 1-3 months so I go through long periods of no MMO gaming, but there will always be that game that is worth coming back for. Good luck man. |

In korea & china they give you something like 200 hours for $15 ( 6 hours a day for 30 days is 180 hours). So if you can only invest 2 hours a day in the game, then that $15 bucks can last you a long time. IMO The hardcore gamers will opt for the monthly ofcourse. Wow, you folks are really invested. I'm on the verge of qutting now, and I'm only 16 years old, not even finished high school yet. Almsot every MMO bores me to tears, and I don't want to put time and money to work in a virtual world to reach the maximum level like thousands of others before me. It doesn't make sense to me anymore. SW: ToR and Global Agenda will likely be it for me, as Star Wars is just my favourite franchise (in terms of film, games, etc.) and Global Agenda looks like a non-grind pick-up-and-play game. |

I guess what you're saying is Aion will be your one and only until the servers are taken off line? And then what? No more MMOs for you? This could take 10 years to happen, it could take 15 or 5 at the worst, who knows. If you are an mmo player at heart this won't stop you no matter what you say. If this is just one pass time amongst others then this will be easy. 1-2 years for a young person is a LONG time, 5-10 years in an older person is also a LONG time, you just don't know what will happen then and what will be out, if you truly don't care for this genre this won't bother you but for most players who have been somewhat dedicated it becomes an itch that must be scratched. One thing that does change as you get older and responsibilities accumulate is that your playstyle is no longer the same, you find you don't value the same things you used to, but nevertheless you continue playing. Maybe a hiatus will do you good, I quit gaming for two years in my late teens and then another year somewhere in my middle twenties, but the urge always came back :P Sometimes life gets so crazy and busy you have to quit for some time, that doesn't mean it's over forever, after all forever is a damn long time. Ya'll say that now, but you kids are young with a capital "Y". I'll be darned if there isn't a release 10 years down the road that comes VR headset ready that you'll cave in for and forget that you ever made this promise to begin with.
LineageII | LoTRO | RFO | 9Dragons | Aion | Perfect World | Ether Saga | Dungeon Runners | GuildWars | Hellgate London | tCoS | Warhammer | AoC | Tabula Rasa

Hmmm...... where to begin. My word of advice is to never play any more games if they are a waste of time. I consider it a hobby. Ask yourself this, Do I spend alot of time in front of a Televison? Most people will asnswer yes. That in my opinion is a waste of time. I watch the morning news and a show or two a week. How a person chooses to spend their time doing whatever they like is a good thing. No matter what you spend your time doing it becomes a bad thing when a person is obsessed with it, lets it run their life or it becomes their reality. This is where it crosses the line. Why do you think gamers are vilified? Parents that do not act as parents blame games for their lack of parenting skills. They blame an online games and the media jumps all over it . Advertising firms know that alot of people are tired of the propaganda spewed forth on the air waves. They want some of the MMORPG pie. I play games to have fun, and develop a character to play end game. That does not mean I play all my waking hours, neglect work, my wife or grand child. I play to have fun and prefer to do it playing games. Some prefer coin collecting, making models, making furniture and I could go on and on.

You do know that no one is ever going to believe you until we see it for ourselves and things are officially announced... right? "You'll find a great many of the truths we cling to depend greatly upon our point of view." |

Posts like this make about as much sense to me as someone saying something like "This is going to be my last movie." or "This is the last album I will ever listen to." I've been gaming since I could walk and playing MMORPGs since they existed - I honestly don't understand how someone could let one hobby or interest consume so much of their time that they feel the need to quit doing it completely just to be able to do something else. Why the heck would you waste time playing games you didn't even like? Can't you just manage your time better? I guess I just don't have an addictive personality. As for your comments regarding forum doom-saying - don't put much stock into things like that. Forums tend to have a negative tone in general, and these forums are among the most hateful and jaded out there. No game is ever going to be the be-all/end-all of the genre or the ultimate evil that "dumbs down" and destroys it forever. People on forums are just really dramatic and kind of bored. I'm going to play Aion. If I like it, I'm going to play it a lot. If I don't, I'm not going to play it. This is the extent of my emotional investment in a video game.
