Well i know of alot of people that have been waiting for this game to come out it's just now there has been talk that it's dead |

Nice first enthusiastic post, I guess. I had a bit of a trouble understanding your English, either I'm not into the particular dialect you're speaking or you didn't put much of an effort into your own thread. Regardless of the message you were trying to relate, it is known for quite some time now that the company that was creating this game is in a bad financial state. As far as I know the people working there haven't been paid for quite a while. So it's only natural if they jump ship and look for jobs elsewhere. What I was expecting reading the topic of this thread was to see some actual news regarding the game. Unfortunately none was given, making this thread pointless and me a fool for posting a reply. |

Money's tight but they're still working on it. Maybe the OP could have taken the trouble to check out their official forums instead of making a pointless and misleading thread here? |

Nothing new to see here, move on please. Most folks here know about the financial difficulties and the people leaving. Still, some hold out hope that it can be finished and delivered, though I agree, the odds are long against it. I can't imagine how tough it is to create an MMORPG in our economic climate. Posts like this one just show how insensative our community can be. It wasn't long ago that our MMORPG selection could be counted on one hand. I really miss the community back then. This stuff is just garbage. I wish the creators of the Stargate MMO much luck on their project. It is a wonderful IP and has a lot of potential for innovation. |

Reading comprehension problems? They're not bashing him because of his english. They're bashing him because his content is not factual, innaccurate and patently false. While most will agree that SGW's chances of releasing are now slim it's not a dead game yet. The developer, despite being broke, is still working on it. And, the previous poster is 100% accurate. EVE Online was in EXACTLY this position when it was in development where the devs were basically still working on the game because they really wanted to finish it. They were on the brink of total failure but they managed to release it.... and even at release things were grim till the game slowly.... painfully slowly... started to grow.... it wasn't till over a year after release that the game finally got enough subscribers to finally start cutting a significant profit. And now? It's one of the largest P2P MMO's on the market and one of the most successful and the CEO of CCP is now rated as the 2nd most influential person on the MMORPG scene. Bottom line: It's not dead till the developer closes up shop or declares the project cancelled (and even then it's not dead if someone else picks up the IP)

There is something new, you just don’t know about it yet, and I don’t have the balls to share it with you. So start digging around my little board hounds :)

The difference is that CCP were a group of friends that pulled together and had revenue from their own sources (board game), when cash got tight they could say we won't take paychecks and the small group of friends were OK about this. Also CCP got a publisher in to help with financing and release so that was another source of income and burden lifted so they could concentrate on the game, CME don't have that luxury. CME is more akin to Sigil than anyother MMORPG company out there, rotten from the core with poor leadership and abysmal managment. Too many staff doing too little and all leeching cash from what should be their ultimate goal. The owner doesn't care about the game more about his interests in pyramid scams and his 50 other enterprises and shell corps he has to run. Managment under him are only interested in stroking their own egos and getting a bigger slice of the pie, the workers are upaid, unmotivated and sick of doing voluntary work for Gary Whiting whilst having to maintain this shroud of secrecy and get harassed by MMOGULs. CCP were just a little hard up but the friends pulled together and accomplished their shared goal. CME is a company with (formerly) paid employees that expect a pay check each month and have familys to feed with wives/husbands that expect to see a paycheck. CCP did other things on the side to pay bills until EVE was launched, if CCP had $40 million to start out with they'd have been fine with no money worries. CME started with that amount and are shit broke now, CME is rotten much as Sigil was, destined to end up on the trash heap of the MMORPG industry. |

Bottom line: Till CME closes it's doors and cancels the project the game isn't dead. I will agree that things look grim for them though. But I learned a long time ago watching MMO's go through the throws of development that calling them dead before they really are is almost always a mistake. Yes, it looks bad for CME right now.... but it's not hopeless. and your statement that CME is rotten to the core is based on...... what exactly? Do you work for them?
At any rate... I wouldn't go planning to buy SGW till you see the actual product (then again I don't buy anything sight unseen anymore in the gaming industry... too much shit gets shoved out the door in utterly crap state anymore for that). But calling the game dead before it's been cancelled is silly. |

OK I'll agree, would you settle for a vapourware at this stage? |
Originally posted by Taram I agree, I'd like to see this game on the store shelfs someday, I may not buy it right away but that's true with most upcoming mmo's now. Been burned too many times to get anything on release if I hadn't tested and liked it myself. |

They had a short internal alpha. Nothing playable ever at the few (2?) events they went to in the past. |

That's funny, since I was in the closed "beta" ( which was actually in worse shape than any "alpha" I've ever been in ). |

Yeah, they did call it a "Beta" didn't they. Anyways no playable demo/anything at any event/conference. Nothing but an interview at Leipzig. |

I have wanted to play the game...but after seeing the meltdown that the company is going through. I figure Stargate Worlds will release at the same time that Duke Nukem Forever will... |

I don't think things are that bad.. actually from what I've experienced they were indeed in a somewhat piss poor beta stage (had about a page and a half of bugs by the time my character loaded for the first time) but that was way back last year... I have to say it did shake my resolve and I've flashed back to my old disappointments such as Hellgate London (when I actually got my hands on it I was crushed) but they have overcome alot to get where they are now. I'm gonna keep my eye on this game but for the time being there are plenty of other MMOs coming out soon to occupy my time with (or switch over to fully in case the devs haven't made any changes since last year!) Life is about take chances and venturing out of your box, making mistakes and learning from them, and doing what you love. Find what drives you, as all paths end the same, so why not make the most of it and live a life worth living without regret? |
