What sucks is to wait until September, all other games are meaningless and funless now when compared to Aion (for ME).

Thanks for posting this OP, I did not realize the details of Aion's combat system and it sounds fun.  Looking forward to the game more now.

glad it was helpful - and yes, the summer will probably fly by for many who are waiting for Aion's release lol.

I'd like to add that not everyone will feel this way and this is my own personal take on the combat system. I'm not insulting it OR the people who enjoy it. I'm not saying its inferior or bad, but I am saying that I am not thrilled by it.

Stick to WoW and be 100% bored then? (kidding ofc)

EverQuest, often shortened to EQ, is a 3D fantasy-themed massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that was released on the 16th of March, 1999. The original design is credited to Brad McQuaid, Steve Clover, and Bill Trost. It was developed by Sony's 989 Studios and its early-1999 spin-off Verant Interactive.[1] It was published by Sony Online Entertainment (SOE). Since its acquisition of Verant in late 1999, SOE develops, runs and distributes EverQuest.[2]

Lineage II (Korean: ??? 2) is a fantasy massive multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) for the PC, and a prequel set 150 years before [2] Lineage. It has become very popular since its October 1, 2003 launch in South Korea, reporting 610,918 unique users during the month of March 2007.

World of Warcraft, often referred to as WoW, is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) by Blizzard Entertainment. It is the fourth released game set in the fantasy Warcraft universe, which was first introduced by Warcraft: Orcs & Humans in 1994.[5] World of Warcraft takes place within the Warcraft world of Azeroth, two years after the events at the conclusion of Blizzard's previous Warcraft release, Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. Blizzard Entertainment announced World of Warcraft on September 2, 2001.[6] The game was released on November 23, 2004, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise.

I was in the first round of closed beta testing for EQ. I have no idea why you are mentioning EQ. WoW borrowed a lot from EQ no doubt, but WoW also added a lot of unique class themes, standardized the combat mechanics, greatly expanded the quest mechanics, and added a large number of accessibility features. Aion has all of those same features that WoW added. That makes Aion have a much closer relationship to WoW than it does EQ.

WoW borrowed a lot features from other games, streamlined them, improved them. EQ as example. Blizzard made them to must-have standards for todays mmorpgs. I showed that there were mmorpgs, successful ones, before WoW, a detail a lot of people seem to forget.

The classes were already present with L2, another NCSoft title.

Combat is solid, very few bugs, very fluent. NCSoft describes combat as:

Engage in a spectacular and evolving combat system drawing upon skill chains, counter-attacks and spectacular aerial combat.

Thats pretty close to what I see ingame and if it reminds you to Wow (which copied it from some other place)... where is the problem with that? I prefer having some working well-known feature + additional candy (flying) to something like Funcom tried with AoC.

I wish to have no connection with any ship that does not sail fast for I intend to go in harm's way.

I just hate how every fanboy has to compare a new mmo to WoW when it is announced/tested/released.  Apparently people still think WoW is "The" mmo.  It isn't.  I first started with EQ, then to FF XI.  Right now almost every community has something WoW doesn't have...a player friendly community.  Sorry but the community for WoW sucks.  It has driven away a lot of people, especially the pure hardcore mmo players because they don't want to deal with the little kids and jerk who inhabit the trade chats and forums.

The community on Aion is probably one of the friendliest I have ever played.  WoW's PvP is not really groundbreaking either.  The game is easily accessible which is why people say that.  But I do believe PvP in EQ worked the same.  Fight character using skills and abilities at your disposal.  Yeah they have battlegrounds which are nice and they have arenas (which imo broke the PvP system because arenas are NOT exactly 100% class-based friendly).

Aion just does what every mmo has done before it.  It used a skill based system to fight.  But does WoW have air to air pvp?  No.  That is pure fun if you ever try it.  Adds a whole new mechanic on play styles because you have to choose to build your character for flying combat or ground in pvp.

WoW is a beginners mmo.  I look at it and its players as mother and child.  The players are the children too afraid to leave their mother for a better world.  Too afraid to work for something.  Sitting all comfortable with their OP rogues and qqing about other classes and the ease to hit level cap in a matter of weeks.  A true mmo would have you wait months, long months, before hitting level cap.

If you want to talk and support WoW go to the WoW forums.  This is an Aion thread where we discuss Aion, a game on a much higher level graphically and content-wise.

I'm ok with the WoW comparison for a couple of reasons. 1) It's to be expected, just because of the sheer number of players.  and 2) Aion beats WoW in every way, shape, and form.  Compare all you want! :)

What concerns me is the amount of RNG that a lot of the skills use. Random stuns, random combo points (seals), random duration snares. PvP cames should steer clear from RNG mechanics.

Depending on classes sometimes you have to wait for cooldowns.

CAion lag + cast + animation time + autoattack bug = frustration.

The combat system is not bad but last time someone used the term "superior combat system" it was AoC. ;)

Nothing wrong with AoC combat, just people who weren't good enough to use it - slight difference.
