I'm still waiting for the MMO aimed at the balding 43 year old man demographic. Playing: Eve, Fallen Earth, Entropia. Trying D&D Online |

Sure, it might be on hold... but if you go to white-wolf.com (The IP holders for World Of Darkness) the top news story is about CCP... havent read it but was there earlier and just happened to notice.
Food for thought.
Edit - Just read it. Its bragging about CCPs awards for innovation and its growing number of subscribers to EVE Online... Id bet they are still working together. Go under World Of Darkness fiction to see article. |

Im very happy that they have brought back all thiere attention to EvE. |

You do realize at the GDC in Europe they are making a large announcement about another MMO.
Now being as we know CCP is making a large MMO announcement and given that we know CCPs "next" MMO was WoD, what do you think the MMO announcement will be in August? My money is on World of Darkness Online.

How mush are you all gona pay me when Im right and you all are wrong? NO there will not be a WOD mmo coming out anytime soon, trust me Ps: the Anoucment is about CCP making a consol single player game set in the EvE universe

All the press coverage regarding it says MMO. I am sorry but I will even be so kind as to find the linkies for you. CCP said they will announce a new MMO at the GDC this August.
Also a good deal of my family and friends are WW employees and none of them seem to think it is too far off, now granted they are mostly writers in the tabletop lineups, and one a tabletop book artist, but they are on the other side of a fence we are not.

edit- I stand corrected on the announcement front, the news says "unannounced project in pre pro stages" which I guess my hope filled mind read as MMO announcement. I still stand firm in my belief that is what we will hear about at GDC is WoDO. \ You are right about the fan fair announcement about it being pushed back as well. Called Aron for some WW insider info (a friend who freelances for WW and owns a comic store so is easy to touch base with) and he seems to think pushed back is a one year thing, The game had originally planned/slated its launch in 2010, he thinks from the vibe at the Geist office, and in the building in general is that it will be at least a year late. So it's original Q3 2010, becomes Q3 2011. But he warns even if he had info he could not tell me anything other than the "vibes" he mentioned.
Edited a second time to seperate two thoughts that should not have been joined via a semi colon. |

I have to say, I'm pretty disappointed. I've been looking forward to a WoD MMO for ages now, especially new age WoD, and when they finally design it they aim it towards young women? Why can't they just design the game around the WoD lore and setting already laid out by White Wolf - why do they have to twist it up and target a specific gender? Now, the gritty, intense, gloomy world I've come to know and love is going to be littered with fashion designs and girly guilds. It's one thing to have a 'girl-friendly' MMO. It's another to aim an MMO at girls. This game better be unisex and true to the WoD franchise, or I'll be pissed. If you guys haven't, play Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. You'll know what I'm talking about. |

So specualtions are running wild, but anoucing hey we will be making WOD would not be a suprise as they have allready been down that road, anoucing that they where goign to make it in 2006. Why do it again?? Its a single player game, for another platform, consol would be my best guess. Anoucing "hey we are gona try and make WOD again" would just be bad marketing... we allready know they wanted to do it. Plus they are trying to bring out walking in stations for EvE this year. And they showed us a sneak teaser of some sort of FPS shooter based on the EvE lore, on the last fanfest. So dont hold your fingers crossed for WoD I dont think it will happen sorry.... Also they have clearly stated that because of the current Econamic situation they are going back to there roots, doing what they are best at = EvE. Also making an mmo in todays Market is HARD for an independent company, It was way diffrent back at the start of the decade. Now you need zillons of Dollars if you arnt gona Right FAIL at the end of the game name.. and even then you are not safe look at warhammer lolz I say the best way is to wait untill 2012-14 to start making a New mmo the market just needs to die down a bit, its to Hot right now and to many are involved in it. It will get better in a few years time, when many have quit and we have a new generation that isent destroyed by WoW and its clones. |

You typed all that before my edit mate.
I already posted that I stood corrected on both fronts (fan faire announcement by CCP and press covereage of the "new project in pre pro"), and then said my only hope stands in the words of WW employees who really can't tell me anything as they a) aren't in that dept. and b) live under NDAs.

I hope the article is true gives me more hope for this game. Who wants WoW vampire style. Never liked most vampire comp games cause it was just a regular hack n slash with new theme. Hopefuly drinking blood will be a mini game. Getting that girl or guy in the alley, away from cops will depend on how you dress and what dialogue options you pick. Hoping to see more puzzles type quests instead of run and kill 20 of these types of monsters now. And maybe the end game will focus on socializing and chilling in a virtual world with politics and a few dangers here and there. Isnt that what rpgs are, just a glorified game of house? A game of house with guns, blood and fangs sounds fun.
My wife plays alot of games and so does her all girl family (her mom and Grandmother had all girls.). I think theres a 100 nancy drew games out there. There not that bad of games they just dont have combat in em. Not saying my wife isnt good at combat games but she just like mystery and puzzle games. Except xmen, Everquest and baulders gate on the PS. For some reason she loves those games. Always has to try on every item we find.

If a vampire's heart doesn't pump, then there's no blood movement, thus the cold "room temperature" skin. Then what do they do when all their hot babes try to get it on with them. Think about it. I don't get it. Vampire Viagra of some kind? Ah.... it doesn't make any sense.... |

I would love to play as a Nosferatu. Always been my favorite Masquerade characters. |

Wow... They're cashing in on the Twilight crowd. God knows how care-bear this MMO will be. |

More info on the WOD MMO --------------------------------------------------------------------------- So, according to this interesting document I found shamelessly lurking on the Eve Online forums, it looks like we should be expecting WoDO by 2010. Of course, this document is dated July '08, months before CCP focused on Eve Online, as stated by its CEO during last november Fanfest, so I think we should take into account a few months of delay, making the final release date around early 2011, but, hell, I can be wrong. Anyway, Word of God says WoD will be launched in 2010. I guess we should make a party or something! Now, please, go to page 13, near the end. I know, they might be only explaining the P&P setting, but they might as well be explaing the MMO one. Vampires, werewolves and mages? And it looks like we won't be able to play as humans. Ok, now I'm maybe reading too much into it.
The setting for this game shares the same history, culture and geography as modern day Earth. On the surface, the inhabitants of this fictional world live as we do; yet here, the shadows are deeper, the nights are darker, and the fog is thicker. But most importantly, monsters exist. Beneath the thin film of civilization, Vampires thrive on the blood of humans, Werewolves prowl for carnage in the darkest forests, and Mages scheme to bend reality to their will. In the World of Darkness, you are the monster, struggling to remember the memory of your humanity while you struggle against the evil that lurks within us all. CCP and White Wolf are now hard at work in pre-production on the World of Darkness the persistent world. Given the World of Darkness legacy, its large fan base, and proven appeal to both genders, we estimate the subscriber potential of this product to be two to three times that of EVE Online, without competing head on with CCP’s existing products thus enabling wider total appeal. ![]() "You act like daffodil picking dwarves are anywhere out of the ordinary..."-Laura "Taera" Genender 2008 |

OMFG YES. >D I love vampires! They're sexy.. Well.. Except twilight...That movie was pretty fag. But! I really hop ethis game turns out good! <3333 High hopes. :3 I hope it's insanely customizable! OMFG I want to be a werewolf. >>; I wonder if they'll have that option. you people need to stop bashing a game nbefore it even comes out. :/ Losers. And just because it has vampires in it doesn't mean it's a clone of twilight. :/ Dumb heads. Gosh. I also like how all the males on this thread are making fun of it and the girls are all in high hopes...Except for the few who like to view everything in a sexist light. :/ Gosh.. Seriously. Chill out and give the game a chance. It deserves it. Can't we just all get along? >D /\*. "Pew Pew" Darkfall = Epic fail. |

Considering the Vampire games have always been popular with womens this is a great idea. As long as they have some combat for the men, then I think we can all get along just fine. And I think all RPGs should be more attention to “dress up” elements. Because RPGs should be about customizing characters, even though most MMOs have forgotten that. |

Part of the problem is that there aren't any classes in WoD. It would probably have to seperated into Race (Werewolves, Vampires, Mages) then further seperated into subraces (Tribes, Clans, Traditions). As for mages, I'm fairly sure it wouldn't be a problem. Possibly restrict the gameplay to rotes rather then free spells. I suspect that the entire game world would have to be extremely manipulatable in order to get them to work. But it is just as easily done with a random thing. For example you would go through a sequence of keys (force>area>ground) and plop the ground target on a pool of oil spilled from a tanker and cause it to ignite and explode. If you did this sequence without the oil on the ground (or the tanker) then an element would be needed, quintessence would be spent, and paradox would be gained. If no naturally occuring element is in the area then you specify one and an effect is generated based on that. |

Originally classes where "pre-made" characters. Even today some singleplayer CRPG games let you create your custom class, adding whatever you think fit (with some logical limitations). So any CRPG (computer RPG) can get a RPG system withouth classes, and add classed over it as a way to pre-configure some things. If nothing else work, can tell the player "you are a mague" and run with that. Most people will be happy starting with some items a mage may need, the gear a mage may use, etc.. even on a skillbased gaem. But thats my opinion. |

I realize this is totally not the reason in truth, but I blame Ann Rice, Stephanie Meyer, and Laura Hamilton for changing our perception of vampires from horrible blood-sucking monsters into emo pretty goth boys that just feel misunderstood and are mostly interested in romance. |

Don't worry, the main part of that perception has existed for some time now. Those authors emphasized the sympathetic elements of the vampire folklore, but did not originate it. If anything, these authors took many elements of the folkloric female vampire (sic) legends and brought them into the mainstream genre. There's some good reading in en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_literature, and en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vampire_films. Not just novels and movies, either; note the seductive and sexual elements in the 19th century period paintings and other artwork.

Well, the Vampire-as-seducer archetype has been around almost as long as vampires have...
but there's a HUGE diff between Bela Lugosi's take on Dracula, and Lestat. Newer vampires are effeminate, pretty, tortured souls that seem to be there more to be teen idols for girls to squeal over than an actual monster. I guess I just miss the vamp flicks of MY day. Even Gary Oldman was better than that kid from Twilight.
