I was astounded at the thought that went into it myself. WoW clone this game sucks ....sheer genius. Im going to pre order the game on friday. WIth the negativity im hearing its got to be good.

Interesting how the rabid fanbois brought the "WoW clone" criticism into this thread, when the OP didn't.  Straw man argument, anyone?  It's amazing the lengths folks will go to to defend "their" game, no matter how bad it is, like Aion.

I love how people are flipping the tables like this since about a week or so ago, if people who want to whine about Aion don't bring up WoW but someone who likes Aion does then they must be trying to make the game sound better then it is, right?

No. I've played every major and not so major mmos out there and I pride myself on being fair, this game is the most solid thing that's come out in years.

So again I'm curious what's so bad about this game? Gameguard? Check I don't like it either I won't blame people for not playing because of it. Graphics? Matter of personal taste can't blame people for that either. And...... I can't think of anything that's worth picking apart other then that. Bots maybe but with the game not out yet we can't say anything and it will take 3-4 months for the gold sellers to get kicked out or so, like any game.

Fact is that Aion is not a bad game. It runs good and combat can be fun. Graphics are also pretty good and the music is very nice and pleasant. Sound effects could use a little work though. Definitely not a fan there. I'm also not a big fan of the anime-ish art style but being that it's a personal preference, I do realize that there are people who like it.

In my opinion, Aion's main problem is that it doesn't really bring anything new to the genre. While that in itself does not make it a bad game, those of us looking for something new will not find it in Aion. It's other problem is Gameguard but I won't get too much into it as I've already stated my griped with it in another thread.

There! A completely honest and smart answer. And I agree with you I don't think people who want something very different are going to find Aion satisfying, and that's ok more games are about to come out and those are the ones we know about too. :)

Yeah an MMO doens't need to do anything new to be a good game. WoW didn't do anything new when it launched.. it just did everything better. *shrug*

I liked Aion alot, I will buy the game and atleast make one char max level. With my computer this game is pure eyecandy! Totally worth trying.

Nothing in your list really bothers me, thing that annoyes me are more freedom orientated, like being able to swim would be nice. Your an accendant being with the power to light up the sky with magic and combat, dragons fear you, but god help you if you land in 7ft of water ^^ And I dont like the invisible walls when you go from zone to zone, why not just let us fly where we want ?

Still I like the game, beta has been fun and I have pre-ordered so Ill give it a whirl.

So let me get this straight, detailed combat animations with collision checks are bad?  It is either me or this is the strangest complaint ever, and I don't recall things explode much when hit with just daggers.

-the sounds effects are "cutsey."  When you click on damn near anything, you hear a little "twinkle" effect.  From NPC givers to loot, I constantly hear Mario gathering stars.  (Oh, not to mention the choral music in the beginning which is simply dreadful and music I think I heard 10 years ago in a Final Fantasy game).

Not much opinions on this one, if you dislike the twinkle, it is your preference.  However, in defense of Mario, the star collection sound is much better than Aion's twinkle.

-the battle/combat sounds are hilariously bad.  Every time my female scout take damage, I hear a 5 yr old child scrape her knee.  Again, where's the grit, the menace, where's the fact that I'M FIGHTING, not picking flowers?

You didn't look at character creation enough. Beta only gave you one voice, however character creation have 4 voices to choose from.  If you play female scout you shouldn't be talking about grit in the first place anyways to be honest ^^;

Sorry, but these are all deal-breakers.  You can add a good story onto this (which btw, I didn't see), you can add flying onto this (nothing new here, AO let you do this, what, almost 10 years ago?), you can add PvP on top of this (what, to hear LOTS of 5 yr old girls scraping their knees)...but the game will still look and sound the same. 

Aion Beta is holding back alot of things such as in game cutscene voices and culturaized contents (story) to be added for later beta and launch, the game isn't even launch complete yet.  If you read the release notes from websites, which you clearly did not, you will see Aion is currently in beta preview stage with low level content up for testing.  They don't give you the full game for a beta preveiw event that last only a few days.

There is almost NOTHING I liked about UO, EQ, DAOC, AO, AC, WoW,, you name it, there is almost NOTHING aesthetically in common in Aion with those great games of the past

I am not saying you have to like the game, I am saying your opinions are all premature, uninformed, and incorrect in some areas about the game.  Again, in mario's defense, mario is an Italian plumber with a mustache, he is the eptiome of masculinity if nothing else.  Well maybe if mario didn't speak in that tone it would have been better.

After reading and replying to the oringinal post in orange text, I have came to 3 possible conclusions and 1 solid conlusion:

1.  The OP made the common mistake of judging a game too early without enough information.  (For god's sake it is initial beta testing with most of the contents locked, and the low lvl restriction.  Read the release notes of what is to be added at least)  BTW, did you even do any TESTING in this BETA TESTING of Aion? (Directed toward the OP)

2.  The OP accidentally played Hello Kitty Online and mistook it for Aion.

3.  The OP didn't play beta for Aion at all.

4.  When the game finally launch I'll have the pleasure of having no chance to meet the OP in game.

Because flying isn't a mode of transportation it's mainly for combat in the Abyss. I think there should add more flying areas in the leveling zones though, but the game is still really young too.

 Game is better than all the last Western's releases .  Atm there is only aion , so yes aion is good on the current market , it even shines with its polished graphics .

You're counting features instead of going for the whole package, no game plays like Aion, isn't that what you'd label as new? Wow might be similar in the leveling, but it doesnt have the PvP Aion has, DaoC might have similar PvP, but it doesnt have the raiding content Aion has, etc.

We havent had open world PvP AAA games for years, we haven't had a stable and bugfree game for years, we haven't had open world raids and competition in those for years, so, Aion does bring something new imho, something that caters some of us completely, which can't be said about the rest of games.

Games are like icecreams, you start tasting the chocolate and feel that it tastes exactly like that chocolate ice cream you bought 2 days ago, but then you get to the vanilla and you start discovering new flavours, at the end, you won't feel like you just ate a chocolate ice cream, you will feel like you ate a chocolate and vanilla ice cream.

Say what you want about it, but all I know is that I have had an absolute blast during the first two beta weekends.  I'm all for analyzing a game to death and tearing it apart, but in the ends that's all it really boils down to.

I laugh my ass off when I see a WoW kid telling us Aion doesn't bring anything new to the genre.

WoW took all its features from the other MMOs, it brings even less new things to the genre... lol

Look how alot of people are enthusiast about aion , how the sceptical people will buy it by curiosity... This is  what makes the game a success  . I didnt compare it to WOW or others old games since they are old .. , but DAOC WAR DF .

None of that makes it a bad game. It just says why you don't like it. Find a good reason it sucks.
