Cannot seem to make heads or tails of all the negative posts about the game in this forum or how certain people want it to be like or not.

I just want to point out a few things that a poster stated over on the beta boards that may put an end to the junk we are seeing put in this forum. As the co- leader of a new Legion (guild) in the game when it launches I am  a little concerned about some of the misinformation our applicants may bring up when they email us

I will simply cut and paste his post directly and people can make of it what they will

-------------------------------------------------

DISCLAIMER: Although the following may be in rant-form, there are points in here that NEED to be read by some of you. Regardless, I will be adding points as I see fit, this more of a rant in progress. Read at your own risk I suppose.

I have to begin by noting that we are testing 1.1 and that we are playing 2 patches behind what is supposed to be the retail version. Apparently many are unaware of this fact. Why? I have no idea, but my guess would be to contribute it to a lack of reading comprehension.

1. PvP. I have to assume that those complaining about it are not aware that the "real" PvP doesn't begin until the Abyss at level 25 and above, not to mention the random portals that pop approximately every 2 hours, allowing for some great, unexpected World PvP. Wait for it, it's coming.

On the other hand, we have people in here asking about PvE servers and zones. Obviously you have not been following this game for very long.

There is this amazing concept called PvPvE.

There is PvE, there are dungeons (though few) with more on the way. There is even PvE in the Abyss. Yes, you will have to PvP in the aforementioned PvE dungeons to compete for the Boss', just as PvPers will have to PvE to take Fortresses, etc.

This is a PvP-centric game. The PvP comes before the PvE in PvPvE. Get over it.

2. Arena. Yes, Arenas have always been FFA until WoW. In fact, for those of you who didn't play prior to TBC, WoW had an arena, and it' still there, outside of DM and *gasp* it's FFA.

3. Read around before posting your reviews. Everyone has the same CONS to post, and yet, these same CONS have been explained time and time again. For Example:

A) Chat System. READ PLEASE, IT'S A BUG AND CHANNELS ARE NOT IMPLEMENTED YET.

B) Auto-Loot: It already exists, IT'S ON YOUR BAR BY DEFAULT. I mean, WOW. Some of you have to learn to slow the **** down and read shit.

C) Yes, you can move the camera while running. Edit: By popular demand, Shift + Right Click

D) Oh I almost forgot, YES you CAN auto-run. Shhhh, it's Num Lock...

E) "The game is a WoW clone, but it doesn't do this this or this that WoW does, thus it SUCKS". Really? Go back to WoW then, you Blizzard fanboys contradict yourselves so much you can't keep up with your own complaints.

Of course you're going to get influences from other games. WoW did, and still does to this day. Believe it or not, Aion is not a "clone" of WoW, L2, FFXI, EQ or any other game.

Fun Fact: Most aren't even aware that Aion isn't the first to implement non-mounted flight. I could say that Aion is a copy of Perfect World, except with a subscription fee. Would I? No, because it isn't even close, despite using flight as a major game mechanic and selling point.

4. Class Customization, or lack there of. The answer: Stigmas, which I admit, I myself do not know much about at this point. You do a quest at level 20 and at this point are given your first Stigma stone, which you can remove and sell to other players. Although stones drop from all monsters, they are more rare on common monsters and more common drops on rare monsters. As you level, you unlock more Stigma slots.

http://aion.mmosite.com/guide/system_stigma.shtml

What I do know from reading around: They used to be used to add other class' abilities to your own. Due to balance issues this implementation was removed, and they are currently working on other ideas.

There is most likely more information on this subject floating around, but I have yet to find any as of yet. If anyone has info on how they work currently, I'd be happy to hear it, as I'm sure others would.

Below is an old, but excellent thread on stigmas, which is still going.

http://www.aionsource.com/forum/gene...ma-system.html

5. (Korean)Grindfest. No, Aion is not a grindfest. It's actually quite easy to level in this game. There are going to be points at which you can't solo quest the entire way. Get over it, this is how MMOs work. Believe it or not, being social is part of what makes an MMO an MMO, otherwise why not just go pay a 1-time fee for a console RPG and save yourself the monthly fees.

6. I have to say I'm pretty baffled by some of you who are complaining about the graphics. Seriously? I am not one for Conspiracy Theories, but it sure reminds me of the Warhammer forums prior to release, where they all cried about Propaganda posters being paid by Blizzard to come in and trash the game. Lol

Honestly, update your computer. This is not a matter of opinion, it's a matter of your hardware sucking.

7. Currency. OK, It is extremely easy to make Kinah in this game. Extremely. There should be no reason to cry about money sinks such as crafts.

Now, I understand and share the concern of some, in regards to Botters/Gold Farmers running rampant because of everything costing Kinah, but really, if money is this easy to make, do you really think it will promote it? Obviously it's inevitable, but I don't think it will be nearly as bad as some are anticipating.

8. Gameguard. It sucks, I know. It's here to stay, get over it.

9. "Whether you like to admit it or not, WoW is the most successful game in the genre, and the comparisons are not going to stop if you want to be on top". -

OK, here's the thing. I (and many) don't care, nor want, this game to top WoW. Historically, MMOs have been niche games, and I'm OK with that. I don't need 11 million subs to enjoy my experience; if anything, I have a much more enjoyable experience within smaller communities.

10. "Aion will fail". OK, let's do some simple math. First, this game is wildly popular already and still growing over in the Korea and China.

http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/985/985368p1.html

3.5 million subs and growing.

Regardless of how it does in NA/EU this game is ALREADY POPULAR whether you like it or not.

Now, let's say the game sees numbers over here comparable to 200-500k a few months after release. This is what we call a successful Niche game. Do the math 14.95(200,000) = 2,990,000/month from NA alone. It will be and already is successful.

11. Gear. OK, this isn't as prevalent among complaints, but I figure'd some would appreciate the info. I'm aware that for many, including myself, that the aesthetic feel to the gear can be important for immersion. Or, you just want to look badass. Either way, in Aion you are able to not only re-color your gear, but you can also transfer stats from one set of gear to another set of gear that you like the looks of.

If you weren't around for the first beta weekend, and you don't think the gear is all that sexy, just wait. Around 15-20 is when the gear starts looking more intricate.

12. Death Penalty. I'm not sure how I managed to overlook this. For all you complaining about death penalties you're just going to have to get used to it. The fact is that the majority of MMOs implement this. It gives a meaning to death. In all honesty, the death penalty in Aion isn't even that hardcore considering you can pay to get a percentage back. There will be no more kamikaze ports to town anymore without it costing you. Live with it.

13. Subscription Fees. I lightly touched on this earlier. I'm seeing more and more posts about how Aion should be free. Why? Aion is head and shoulders above any FTP MMO out there. Here's how you should look at it:

With subscription fees come support. It's worth it.

Subscription fees are not that much to begin with. Consider it the price of 1 movie and some popcorn per month . If you're already paying for 1 or 2 other MMOs, then you have to make a choice.

Now, in China/Korea they can use gamecard where they are only charged per time played, not monthly. Unfortunately, we will not see this option in the US and most likely not in EU. It might suck for you, because you could save a few dollars a month, but you'll just have to suck it up.

EU is more per month than US but less for the game up front. I don't know what to say about this, other than you got the short end of the stick. Sorry.

14. Flight Mechanics/Controls. I'm not sure I understand why people are complaining about this. Let's make this clear for the simple-minded who cant grasp this concept without having it spelled out for them. IF YOU COULD FLY EVERYWHERE AT ALL TIMES THEN YOU WOULD REACH AREAS YOUR NOT SUPPOSED TO GO, FINISH QUESTS YOU SHOULDNT BE ABLE TO SOLO, AND BASICALLY BYPASS A ****LOAD OF CONTENT.

Note that you CAN glide everywhere. You may find it hard at first, but it's actually quite simple once you get the hang of it. Don't expect to pick it up and master it immediately. With practice you will find that gliding is easy and very helpful.

15. RP Servers. Let me be clear with this up front: I have No Problem with RPers whatsoever. There are no plans for RP Servers as of yet. This does not mean there will not be in the future, although I would not hold my breath. Here's the thing, You don't need an RP Server in order to roleplay. I understand alot of roleplayers prefer specific servers to keep others from making fun of them, or ruining immersion just to be a ****. All I can say is that I don't think you'll have that problem in Aion. If you do, call me a liar. My bad.

16. Bots. Since bots seem to be a major concern for some who played L2, I'd just like to add the following to my previous reference on the issue: CHINESE AION IS NOT RUN BY NCSOFT but rather a 3rd party company (Shandra?) whom is very lenient to the point that some may go so far as to say that they promote it. This will not be the case in NA:

I enjoyed reading this but some people will never be happy. Even though this guy explains just about everthing somebody could ask about the game you will still have people complaining.

I agree, very good post.  Very informative for those who haven't done any research into the game.

LOL @ that.

but well like it has been said, some will never truly be happy. every mmo has its ins and outs, things that appeal to some gamers while others dont like them. its why i have accounts on several different mmos. each as a little something or so that appeals to me in game. for me, whether i was in beta or not. i plan to reserve my initial opinion of the full game after it launches. and even then ill still give it some time as alot of mmos fresh off launch still have things that need to be worked on. but im still lookin forward to tryin Aion for myself . *cheers for aion launch*

City of Heroes allows you to fight while flying. Its been out about 5 years. Its really hard to beat the travel powers in superhero games. Champions Online, which uses more of an open world similar to Aion will have significantly greater travel options and significantly less time spent wasted traveling around.

I agree with most of what the OP says, but its a little silly to accuse people of being biased on a forum full of opinions. I realize that fans of the game really really hate to see criticism, but its all just opinion and you've a right to share yours as well.

ah yes CoH was the first to come to my mind about travel by flight w/o mounts. i remember back hearing games like Flyff say something like only mmo u can fly in, or something like that(correct me if m inaccurate i may be remembering inccorrectly ) but. that was a fairly informative post by the OP and i did happen to learn and pick up a few things i was unaware of myself.  we all have our own opinions, and they certainly do come flying out like all out warfare in forums on occassion. best we can do is brace for impact lol, i only read bits of various threads myself . if only because i plan on reserving full opinion of a game after playing it myself and not letting outside sources turn me away.

Some people get kind of put off by the whole anime style of the game that you see on screenshots ect. I was one of them, but when I started playing the game, like any other game, the last thing I was paying attention to was the graphics. I can't imagine anyone from wow being put off by it though I think wow has more cartoonish graphics than this does. If the style bothers you that much maybe it would be enough to keep you away from it but I'd suggest playing the beta for a day and then decide. I was prepared to hate this game and I was pretty surprised.

Vanguard though a huge open world of pve with high end graphics was the way to go. Too bad the game ran like shit on any pc and wasn't even polished enough to call a beta on release.

Tabula Rasa thought blending FPS style pvp in a MMO would be cool. That game didn't last a year and it's completely shut down. I think they launched it into space along with it's creator where I hope they both stay and never bother anyone on this planet again.

AoC thought gritty more adult oriented theme and graphics would be a good idea. Well it didn't bother me really but having some chic wearing a napkin saying "hey big guy I got somethin for ya" really didn't seem to make me want to keep playing a game that ran like shit. Maybe if I was 14 it might have made more of an impression.

WaR tried an almost pure pvp open field mass battle idea but one thing they got wrong......everything. The game is a joke it's designed poorly and runs like shit.

This game has an interesting concept to mix pvp and pve that so far no one has been able to mesh well. I have no idea if it will work out or not but it's worth trying out for me. WoW pvp is a joke and AoC and WaR are both massive failures and hopeless imo.
