Hey guys I just wanted to talk about something thats been bothering me for awhile. I have been playing games almost my entire life. I am on game forums daily read all the reviews on game sites of new games and what not. You would think I Would be very qualified to sell these games that I know about. So I decide to apply at the local game stop when I hear they are hiring they dont hire me despite me checking back in every few days and I dont even get an interview. Normally this would be no big deal but I go into the store one day and to my surprise all of the employees are teenage girls or those abecrombie style boys. I ask about some games just to see if they know what they are doing and they all say hold on let me get the manager. This outrages me they should hire the most qualified especially in these trying times.... |

If the person in the store or Department dosent belong there I move along. If ye love wealth greater than liberty, the tranquility of servitude; greater than the animating contest for freedom, go home from us in peace. We seek not your counsel, nor your arms. Crouch down and lick the hand that feeds you; May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen. |

there are alot of managers in the world who don't deserve to be managing anything.

Well to be honest I got as dressed up as I could. I dont really have to many nice clothes on account of how tight money is but I wore a button up shirt and jeans I was really polite but I mean there is not much I could say until I actually get an interview wich I didnt. Pretty sad looks like I am going to end up joining the national gaurd just to support myself. |

Join the Coast Guard instead, defend our own borders. Join the Salvation Army, and go on missions of peace (great retirement packages btw) Unfortunately, as mentioned above, there is information missing. Did they hire someone else? Did they not hire anyone, and you are just grumbling because they didn't hire you? Did you fill out an application? How was it filled in. There are a lot of variables and you really cannot guess which reason they didn't hire you. If you need more clothes, goto the local goodwill, salvation army, or thrift store. The clothes might be used, but they will be cheap and you can get a full suit, for the price of a shirt and slacks at a department store. If they didn't hire you... don't get angry.. the managers won't hire you if they see you angry after leaving the store... it might already be too late in fact. If you really need a job, goto the local unemployment office/worforce development center and see what they have in job listings. Also see if they have classes on how to get a job or pass an interview. Sometimes they will help on resumes as well.
All I can say... is keep trying. Sometimes persistance takes 1-2 months to get a job. Spitt |

Sure it may be more profitable for them to hire pretty girls because the majority of gamers are guys. Depending on your area, Guys standing around in a gaming shop might linger longer, buy more product while chatting with a girl rather than staring at some "ugly dude" ( how they may perceive it, not trying to be insulting lol). Just as nightclubs use attractive women to sell more drinks, many retailers are doing the same to sell more product. Maybe the abecrombie guys are meant to appeal to the guys who don;t like girls as well. Not saying it is right, but bottom line, sex sells. |

You also have to contend with the sheer odds. There's probably tens of applications backlogged at that store, and more in the corporate online repository. This is probably especially true now that its summer and people are out of school and all. But if what you say is true and they suck at their jobs and can't sell games, magazines, card memberships, preorders and all that other stuff GameStop pitches, then they'll be fired eventually and you'll have a chance. Too many factors involved to take anything personal though. |

Sorry to break it to you but you aren't anyone special for simply playing games all of your life (lots of us have). Maybe this should be a knock on the head and allow you do some more constructive things with your time. For instance, you goto college? You ever tried making a small game? What are your goals in life besides play video games? Perhaps the manager just saw you through and didn't think you would fit the position to sell video games (perhaps test them instead?). Then again could've also been appearance... games are appealing to the larger crowds nowadays... maybe it is time to recruit "abercrombie(?) attractive" people now. |

What was your availability? If you put on your app. that you can't work particular times then you're not that likely to get a call back. Grow breasts and have nice legs. It's sad but true. Cute girls are more likely to get the job over a guy. |

Gamestop in myrtle beach don't like when I go in. I cock-blocked a manager talking to this fine latina with a thick booty asking about xbox. Pretty Riki could work in Gamestop, but I'm sure I can bring girls in. Also I do agree with devil girl. See I only seen one attractive girl at a gamestop before here and another I know...I'm like kinda creeped out about her cuz shes a manager and she seems fun but u ever met them hard chicks that won't put up with you and u can just feel their aura. It's strange. They be getting them nerds in there with the girls though. -In memory of Laura "Taera" Genender. Passed away on Aug/13/08- |

Sorry to the OP...but as others have stated, you are simply the wrong gender. It's pathetic in this day and age that qualified people don't get the jobs they should. Good looking women always seem to get the jobs that hafta to do with the public...it's all an image thing. The guys get the jobs out back. Why not mail somebody in charge of Gamestop and tell them the situation...perhaps you will get lucky and somebody that is actually interested in the games rather than the a$$ will check things out. |

Actually, gamers don't make good employees for game stores. Think about it for a minute. If someone asks you about a game, you have to make it sound like it's totally worth the money even if you know it's shit. If you got the job at Gamestop, you would have to direct customers to your used games even if you knew that the condition of the discs was less than mint and had a good chance of being returned. And then there's the problem of talking to non-gamers and casual gamers. If you've been playing video games for years, you've picked up the jargon of the industry and that sounds like a foreign language to Joe Six-pack. I remember that either "The Escapist" or Gamasutra did an article about this very topic a few years back.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2if5GYXOGyo |

Most of you guys are right I was just hoping to find a job that would make it so I could stay with my girl. Been in the unemployment computers holding off as long as I can looking for work before I find a job. Lol I Spend most of my time emailing my resume to job adds on craigs list. Normally just to get some type of scam back or something telling me I have no experience. |

Here its dorks and nerd girls running the Gamestops. Hot chicks and cool dudes still dont want to be seen working in Gamestop. That would mean they would have to interact with lesser humanoids. |

There are two gamestops near me. Oddly enough, both have a staff of mostly attractive girls. I approve of this, but I suspect a certain degree of planning behind it. Let's face it, the booth babes at conventions draw people in...it should work ins tores too right?
