I am just wondering since I didn't start playing MMO's until after WoW. What game was the most famous before WoW. |

Everquest |

Everquest |

Most famous? Where in the world, and are we basing this on the name of it, or how many subscribers? Here in the US, I would agree that EQ was the biggest name. However, Lineage II had/has way more subscribers world wide. Runescape also had tons, but I am not sure how many. |

Everquest. It was THE measure for MMo gaming in pre-WOW days. For some, it still is. |

In the US it was EQ by a slim margin over UO. For the rest of the world, however, it was Lineage with multi-millions of subscribers. |

Everquest. It is the reason the MMO genre become popularized and a viable way to make money. |

Sorry baby, I''ll have sex with you tomorrow night, the boys need a healer... <slams the door> |
I'll agree EQ was the most popular, but I think DAoC was bigger than UO. I could be mistaken. <shrugs> |

Good old everquest made the genre what it is today nothing else came close . |

Everquest basically established the genre. WoW popularized it to the point it was worth developing more games. |

First of all, Warcraft is not the most famous mmo at the moment. Warhammer Online is. As for what game was famous prior to Warhammer that would be Star Wars Galaxies. Period, end of story.

Everquest by far and had the best community than any other mmo then and now. |

EQ was the most popular in the west while Lineage was the most popular in the east. |

Everquest, the mother of all mmos. |

lulz everquest being called the mother of MMO's is a joke, but I digress, Ultima Online was. There was no king of MMO's before WoW because MMOs wernt in the mainstream like WoW brought them and then ruined but yeah, as for the popular titles at the time, Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies, DAoC, Everquest, and Diablo 2( Which people will say isnt an MMO, but it was the beginning of them. ) Mess with the best, die like the rest |

He did ask, "the game before WoW". Everquest was King in North America and Europe and nothing touched it until WoW came out, not even DAoC, sorry lol. |

I am assuming that you are joking? Because Warhammer Online is nowhere near the most famous mmo... lol. That is not to say that it is not a well known game, because it is. But not even close to "famous". If you mention WoW, just about everyone, even non-gamers, have heard of it because it is so over publicized. Warhammer Online though.... Pretty much just gamers and their circle know about it. |

UO = Grandfather Everquest = Mother/Father
I never even heard of UO until i really got into MMORPGs and I heard of Everquest before. My first MMO was either Planetside or Final Fantasy. |

ie Ever-crack the first true king (although I never played it) I started on DAoC and was hooked on MMO's ever since. Although online gaming started in Blizz RTS games and FPS but MMO seems the natural evolution for great games full of content. Fight my Brute Clicky!! |

lol... i have no clue how you see the logic in that statement. WoW has been referenced to in numerous main stream media, tv shows/movies. i heard about warhammer for about a month when it was released, haven't heard anyone talk about it really since. |

I would Love to say that king was Asheron's Call or Ultima online, Which I enjoyed immensely. But The big dog back in the day was EQ, Which I just didn't like as much as those two. |
