Much of it, on the onset, has to do with its newness.  But there is quite a bit more depth of character interactivity from the onset, which is a plus.

The 2 biggest downsides, from the onset to me, is that there are limited character development directions (classes) and quest items do not have their own seperate storage location in my bag, so I find myself with limited carrying capability sooner than I'd like.

Expanding your bag is relatively inexpensive. Buying the first upgrade (cube expansion... odd name) doesn't cost much and gives plenty more room.

Since the return cooldown is only about 20 minutes, it's usually very easy to bang out a few quests real quick and recall right back to unload what you have. Speaking of unloading items, 'Sell Misc Loot' is a very convenient button. :)

In what ways? I have leveled a char to around 5 (so it is still early) but so far, everything is very very wow like, except the graphics.

well movement in combat gives you some small bonuses. And the skill chains are pretty nice. both of those are different than wow (they aren't new in general as other games have had those). I quite like the combat so far, it's fairly well done.

More than than.  I played WoW a few years ago up to 60 over 6months and enjoyed it. But Aion has more new tools and features to add to the mmorpg experience.

Such as?

Don't get me wrong, Aion looks pretty good, but doesn't appear to be a huge departure from anything else so far.  Given my very limited experience, it doesn't do a lot that other games don't also do at similar levels, and it seems fairly light on depth (some would call it "dumbed-down").

But again, my experience is limited, so beyond the newness factor, what are the new tools and features that add to the experience?  Especially at higher levels?  Define the depth of character interactivity you've found, if possible.

can you rifine your generalization of your original post ? Which Western Mmos ? and why would you try play one continent against the other , since all of the game involved are of the same genre ? Why can't Aion be better then any Asian mmo's ?

I would really love to read all the reason the generalization is based on....

I like the eastern style games. They put some kind of passion inside them, which is missing in the western games.

Pasion in what ? Character design ? If that is the case , that is great, if only my character was how I prgressed in a game... Seriously ,, lets get some refined statements.

I don't see any real innovation here with regards to the player's level of interactivity. Where are the games like Spellborn and Hellgate that allow a player's actual skill to have some value.

I agree. While some things in the style are a bit quirky i find it somehow refreshing. And eastern art although i guess for lack of a better term could be considered "cartoony" i like it much better than the "cartoony" art style of WOW and War.  I think GW has some very good art and it is what first caught my eye about Aion.

Yeah, I m not a big Western fan either, I prefer Eastern stuff, for example, I've always prefer Anime stuff like DBZ, Samurai X and Saint Seiya, instead of western Cartoons, like X-men, Underdog, although I watch those too, I still prefer the Anime ones, it relates to the topic because is the same issue, I prefer Asians Games instead of western, I like to play Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, Street Fighter, Zelda, Mario more than Grand Theft Auto, Halo or other western games.

Lets be honest, in the Game subject Asians are 1 step ahead than Westerns, although not by much because we have seen some great games by western companys such as Counter-Strike, Half- Life, Quake, Doom, but Asian still have some classics such as Zelda, Mario and Metal Gear Solid.

I know none of those games are MMOs but if you are smart you will relate it with the thread.

Looks are somewhat in the eye of the beholder - pretty subjective really.

But that doesn't answer the questions.

The OP talks about higher levels of character interactivity.  In what way?  That should be quantifiable by enumerating interactive skills and abilities as justification, not just a "feeling".

The same thing applies when talking about having "more new tools and features" that add to the MMORPG experience.  Character flight, got it.  Ok, what are the other things?  That is something that should also be able to be listed.

In this, I'm genuinely curious, not bashing a game I've barely tried.  But if someone is going to make claims, they should be backed up by something other than "because I said so", or just a feeling.  It makes a stronger statement, and not one that just looks like the musings of a fanboi in love.

Face it, theres NOTHING new in Aion. (well wings maybe :) )

Char develpment is centert around 8 classes, you get your basic  "I wana do more criticals" and "I wana have more health"
Character expanding  type of thing.

You can do lots of grinding or lots of silly quest to level up.
you get repetive pvp like in any game, you get your basic crafting/gatering.
the world is just like manny other western/asian mmo's  normal characters whit normal quest and your silly fluffy thingys whit silly funny quest.

What makes Aion good?  they nailed the Asian western mix.  they give solid lag free gameplay that runs on a load of system.
They give the same quality on every aspect of there game.. nothing new, but the old is done good.
Afther two  decade's  of " mmo's "  thats more then enoug content  for most players to be happy whit.

Sofar its bin nothing but fun for me, no other out of asia comming mmo has given me that.

to add some negatives,  No housing ..umm...  no... "let me think"... ah.. Silly sound effects from char evey two sec in combat(each skill)  ya..wo..whiha..swoosh..whihama..

Yeah, to be honest I don't see any innovative stuff in Aion, other then the flight system and even that have been done before but in a different way, but then again we have seen MMO's with new features and they fail because of these new features, because people don't like changes, I think it has been said before in this forums that Aion is not an innovative game, yet it isn't another Asian Grinding MMO as far i am concern.

My experience is really limited, but I agree with you - so far, there really isn't much that I've seen in the game that I would say is innovative.

To be honest, I'm not sure that it really NEEDS to be innovative to succeed and be a very enjoyable game, as long as the elements it incorporates are well done and fun.

But the OP appeared to be alluding to major changes or innovations in Aion that made it much better than competing games, and was really just wondering what those were.

So far, it's pretty much a standard theme-park MMO, and one that is fairly well done.

If this is indeed the case...and I'm not saying it is....what do we do about it?

We can't just sit here and allow this to happen can we?

Viva revolution!

Wings aren't even new.  Heck in Perfect World you can fly right there in the starting area.

Aion is a good game, but it's not a great game (yet). It's not innovatative enough to be considered groundbreaking. It will probably do well and have a good customer base through its lifetime. The proof will be in what they do with it once it goes live (retail) for everyone.

For people looking for something completely different, Aion isn't going to cut it. But, if you are looking for another MMO with familar gameplay like you would find in most popular MMOs. then that's what you'll get and you'll be happy with it.

It amazes me that people still view the world in such an irrational manner.

All the games you mentioned are made by the Japanese. They have a name for their race you know, and just because a KOREAN company makes a game there's no reason to believe they're going to have "The Japanese Mojo" rub off on them.

Hell if anything, most of the single player Koreans RPGs I've played were absolute garbage compared to their japanese counterparts. Korea is pretty much the poor man's Japan.

Several points....hmmm

Well lets use 100 as a point system....so Hello Kitty being a 1....and (insert your favorite MMO here) being a 100.... I have to say

that western is a subjective term.

So I propose a universal ranking syatem using the "yeah ok whatever" scale.

So with this new information....where does it rate....and by "it" I mean whatever crappy MMO we are going on about here.

It's better to lurk in forums and be thought a fool...than to endlessly "Quote" and remove all doubts.
