Is it just me or do both servers have multiple instances? Don't get me wrong, its beta and all and running multiple servers isn't cheap, but I tried playing with a buddy of mine and he wasn't even in the same instance and I cant tell if that is random or permanent. Anyone know how these instances work? Do you get thrown in one randomly or is the one you get put in permanent? |

I have recognized this as well. This is a beta situation I am hoping. I have yet to receive any feedback from NCSoft regarding this. I have addressed this and submitted a request about this but I doubt since it is in beta they will do much to answer these kinds of questions. I am just assuming they are randomly sending players into certain instances to keep the lag to a minimum.

there is a drop down menu, I think under the support option in the menu, it lets you choose which instance you want to be in. if hanging around town dueling go to a low instance, if you don't want people to KS you, go to a higher instance. |

It is the same as the other beta weekend. You can also find this information on the beta boards which you should have access to. To switch instances click your menu then support then change channel. |

And anyone knows how many servers they are going to launch when the game is ready? I think just two servers are not enough at all. The Online AION Community |

The real question about servers is....when to cut them loose and let them go to bed. I know for myself....I cut my serving staff loose around 11pm on the weekends....because after all....they have a life as well.....right? It's better to lurk in forums and be thought a fool...than to endlessly "Quote" and remove all doubts. |

The first two zones are channeled zones. Meaning as more and more people log in, the game creates additional channels (Instances) of the zone to avoid overcrowding. In the lower right click the button there and go into I think it's community or support and change channels. It will list all the channels you can go into to. Just change to the one your friends in or they change to yours. it takes about 10 seconds to change channels once you tell it to. I think there may be a cool-down as well so people can't channel swap every 10 seconds. Works well and prevents overcrowding in the most populated zones. Once you get past the first two zones the game opens up so much that no overcrowding is really possible.
I'm really glad they introduced channels for the first couple of zones. Makes starting new servers so much better. It's already bad enough as it is when you start a new server, I can't imagine having all the people from every channel all in the same area competing for the same mobs! Once the servers are up and running and a bit of time behind them, the channels aren't really needed anymore so they don't use them. It's really just for the start of a server they are used.
