Hey, I thought it was good all the way from the beginning. I mean if it was a total drag 1-10 I would have quit there. I think most hard core folks will think 1-10 is average game play just because it is teaching all of that basic MMO stuff. Experianced MMO players will blaze through that content and will not even remember it after 2-3 hours of playing. 1 to 9 is the tutorial. Level 10 - 20 is where each person really discovers what they can do. You start getting more skills, better and more varied loot. While each level 10 to 20 is not *bam* *pow* there are a lot of hooks to keep you pushing through. By 21 you feel like a bad ass. Here is where you change from discovery mode to "bring it on" mode. At 22-24 you are looking for rifts to give some spankings to the opposite faction. Those 4 levels are a great ramp up to the Abyss at 25. I only got to 28 but I tell you what, I did not want to stop. I wanted to see what was around that next corner. |

I was trying to put my finger on what bothers be about Aion and your post reminded me that in just about every Aion thread I've read lately, someone specifically mentions that their gf wants to play the game. and then it hit me... Aion is the "chick flick" of MMOs! A dude playing Aion is like a dude driving a Miata. It just feels...well...creepy... |

I'm not disputing if the game is good or not. I'm simply pointing out that the argument is very, very, lame. Anyone with a reasonable amount of intelligence can determine if they like a game in the first ten levels. I played through level 17 in the last beta weekend. Wasn't impressed. I probably could have done another 7 or 8 levels before the weekend was up, but the game just didn't hold my interest. I'll jump in this weekend just to give the game a second chance. We'll see. |

Yep because girls never ever play videogames. "WoW Clone gargleblahblah not innovative garglegargle *insert Aion hate here*. Okay, Aion is one game. There are millions of people who like this game, so yes it must truly be horrible. "I will not be playing Aion because it doesn't suit what I want in a game", good then don't play.
"Wow what am I supposed to do, I'm already level 7 and I only have 5 moves". Seriously? That is the point of a game where you level up to improve.
Okay enough of the bashing. I have played Aion in the first beta as well as China retail. The game is fun. Hate remarks come from those who play in the first beta event and watch youtube videos, what do you want? Particulary in closed betas, the area will be pretty crowded. Just because you can't enjoy the game fully in a beta, doesn't mean the game sucks. The beta is not meant for the gamer, it is meant for the game company to fix errors before launch.
For those who say that a game is supposed to be fun from the start, I agree with you. But the game is fun from the start, what you played was the beta. There is a big difference between the two. When the game is launched and settles down from it's first week of release, that starting area that acted as your "whole game", will not be crowded. Most of the excuses come from beta play, and sorry but that is rediculous.
After you've played the real game, perhaps in a trial or from buying the real thing, and you still do not enjoy the game, don't play it and move on. Hard to do for many. |

Please tell me how this is any different than WoW/Lotro or EQ2? The leveling pace in Aion is the same as WoW and ... surprise you don't "grind out mobs to level" you can do quests which offer pretty substantial EXP rewards. In fact the leveling is no different than WoW/EQ2/Lotro so unless you consider those grinds (and I think the majority of players would disagree with you) it's not a grind.

You know I really had hoped NCSoft would have learned from Lineage. Grinding doesnt work. It simply doesnt. I used to grind for day playing Lineage 2 just to gain a quarter of a percentage to level. Hearing this news does not instill the want to buy this game.

If anything, Aion is leaning more toward the male audience what with the over sexualized female avatars. If I were to take a guess, the draw for the female audience would be the soft more "fantasy" styled environment along with the more involved character creation. What is more scarier than your poor analogy of a man in a Miata is that so many people are still stuck in the whole gender roll classifications. It's a Jeep thing. . .

Do gender rolls come with a side of wasabi? They sound pretty tasty to me... |

Well sweet i wasnt born with a silver spoon in my mouth. A man with Great Intellect like yourself would see that by me stating the Said "WoW Fanboi's" Trolling dosn't make every WoW player a WoW Fanboi. Just those that choose to browse the forums looking to talk smack on any game they can that's not WoW just because its not WoW.

i've been playing aion in chinese version, i got a capped sorc and 2 lowers in the 20 - 30's, it's another mmo, i'm not overly impressed, i aint gonna spend the money when it's released in NA. i've already made a big post about what i thought about the game in another thread.
it aint a bad game, it aint anything revolutionary. and there was no silver spoon in my mouth, i've busted ass working hard since i was 17 n have got something to show for it, my parents arent rich, if they were i wouldnt be working 60+ hours a week on the roads, i would have thought that was obvious.

dunno if you know much about melbourne australia, but at the moment there is major upgrades happening to the M1 arterial or the "monash freeway" and works happening to one of our largest bridges "the westgate bridge" currently i'm working on the westgate bridge doing line removal night shift, working from rougly 5pm till about 6am, it was only meant to be sunday night to thursday night but unfortunatly things happen and it looks like i'm working friday night and saturday night too, so at 13 hours a night over 17 nights straight it's going to be at 7 nights in a week we come to 91 hours, even more unfortunatly is that because it's a main bridge and gets alot of traffic it cant have more downtime then the 17 days we have been allocated todo the 2.9km stretch on both sides with a machine that moves at 9 meters per minute. Now if that wasnt enough there is 5 reflectors between each line on the road and at 15meters x 5 meters per line and 3 lanes on the bridge you have close to 2000 reflectors that have to be removed off the bridge aswell, some of them broken making them a pain in the ass to knock off. generally when i'm not working on main roads in melbourne, my crew is working away in rural victoria for a week at a time and home on the weekends also consisting of 12 hour ish days... now the fact my pay rate is 31.00 standard, and friday night is time and a half and saturday night is double time.. you do the math on 91 hours. taking into account 13 of those hours are at time and a half being 19 hours and 13 are at double time being 26 hours, bringing my total pay for the week at the normal rate of $31.00 an hour to 110 hours at $31.00 an hour
ok, all that aside... i was working on offshore oil rigs about 5 years back now as a rigger for about 1 n a half n made a shitload of money out there enough to basically buy my first house which is now my rental property. coming back to melbourne and finding this gem of a job that i've been in for almost 3 years now has allowed me to buy that brand new car i bought last year, that i honestly do love that much i actually barely drive it to keep the millage low and my new house which unfortunatly i have a morgatge for...
but thats ok, you call it what you want... hate on me as much as u can, because i got what you want n i aint gonna sleep any different at night either way |
