Originally posted by gthreeno As far as I can tell, the whole concept behind the Power Shards was to give more "hardcore" players the option of getting better things. You can spend the money to buy these shards, get the best buff foods, etc. or choose not to and not be totally left out. It really is just an additional option for those players who like to maximize their characters. I personally do not like the fact that there is no mob-tagging in some cases, but for the most part it seems necessary and even helpful in PvP situations. At levels 1-20 it is just plain annoying if you have some moron following you around or people stealing specific mobs from you that you need for quests. As far as movement is concerned, I'm sure you've seen what other people have said in this thread. And as someone else has already said, there is only instancing in the first two zones. The main city and everything beyond that is not instanced. Seems the developers realized that it would be quite an annoyance to start the game and have to compete with a thousand or more people for the same mobs (since there is only one starting area per faction). I personally have not gotten far past 20 in the Chinese release, but I assume that the areas either open up more or the population of players will drop off considerably after the second zone. |

it's slightly off, but only slightly. basically the 'ammo' reference is pointing out that the OP was griping about something as absurd and non-effectual as the presents of ammo in the game. soul shots in L2 were more of a power boost to any skill you chose to spend one on. they were so useful that most players (read: every player) considered them a must -- like an archer would buy arrows, but all players had them on them to boost there skill power. so the point was basically to point out that this is not something that should be focused on as a bad or good thing. it's kind of pointless, and i agree. saying you see a similarity to L2 in the power shots and that is a problem is kind of like saying "this game has food and drink in it that give buffs, that reminds me of WoW so i don't think i want to play" |

Power shards in aion and soul shots in L2 do not function the same way. Power shards on give a small amount of MELEE damage added (10, 20, and so on). When your weapon + skill is bursting over 2k damage shards mean very little to your over all damage output. Sometimes people just need to do a little testing to find things out and not jump the gun. |

I did not get to play much in the beta and I haven't even thought about playing the chinese version, so I never really got a chance to fully test it out. So thank you for clarifying... hopefully they won't get out of control, at least to the point to where players would feel the need to keep stacks of shards with them 100% of the time.

Exactly, I was just making the point that the OP was making a mountain out of a molehill, where the shards aka ammo have little impact on your overall damage, unlike in L2. I just had some fun with it and used a infamous rant by Allen Iverson with a bit of creative editing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGDBR2L5kzI

I thought the exact same thing and still do honestly, SS were the worst trash ever made just to promote more farming and gold sinks.
For a melee class they made just about all the attack skills pointless, the animations took longer than just spamming soulshots and for a mage they made your spells do triple damage if you could afford the good ones. Without them you were worthless.
I've been told that they aren't as extreem in Aion, I hope the damage is ballanced without the use of them and that they are there for those who want them...
somehow tho I doubt it |

Originally posted by gthreeno I have an opinion about your opinion. For one complaining about the power shards seems to me a bit pickish..me, I have never purchased any and I have 2 full stacks and some in the bank. I only use them when I PVP since they only add a little damage and yesterday I hit lvl 32 and PVPed most of the time I was on and totaled 68 kills....I only had the shards turned on about 20% of that time. And for me "some/most" of the things you complain about are a bit like complaining that diff. cars have standard tinted windows, auto door locks or that they both use gas... Granted some things copied or reproduced from game to game or product to product can be a bad thing but allot are practical or good or can't easily be avoided. Sounds to me your on the extreme pesimistic side of thing and barely gave it a chance...if you had spent any time to fully check out the game one would think you may have discovered something that I even discoved in the first few hours of play time....like auto movement can be completely turned off.
