Neither. Join the rest of us and wait for the second wave of post WoW MMO's to be released. Personally my eye is on the Star Wars MMO and Mortal Online... superheroes just don't interest me >__>

Agree. Dont waste your time on any, neither are really any good, imo at least.

I bought both the day they were realeased and they are both sitting in the corner collecting dust, most likely never to be played again.

Wait a few more months for anion, that imo looks like it should entertain me for a while at least. Rumor has it thats going to be comming out in the west around september.

Come Get Some!!

Having played both i would say go with Warhammer.  AoC is still good but felt like a bit too much of a grind.  Warhammer has some nice features like the PvP areas, reknown rewards, public quests etc.

Don't get me wrong, I'm going to try every major MMO that is released as I'm currently stuck playing first person shooters and the total war series and am willing to try ANY of them, but I'm most looking forward to SWTOR and MO

Oh I Will Get Into Blizzards New MMO, But For Now... My Computer Can Run Both Games. I'm Just Cruios If AoC Fixed It's PvP Systems & Ect. So All Info Is Appriciated. Still Waiting For A Push Between ONE Of The TWO MMOs, Thanks M8s.

I'm sure Warhammer is great if you play it with friends. It's boring to solo in my opinion.... were it not boring, I wouldn't have quit.

I resubbed to AoC twice after quitting with the promise that it was better, but really I suppose I didn't like the fundamental core of the game, as I've quit it again. I'm looking for something different than both Warhammer and AoC, as I'm sure many people who found this website are :P

The only PvP i've noticed in Age of Conan is that of spellcasters stunning me for 5 seconds and killing me in 6. Being a melee class, I find that I'm very susceptable to ganking. I played the game on the promise of great end-game PvP, but the game didn't have the materials necessary to hold my attention that long, and therefore has failed to keep my subscription.

I'm sure Warhammer is good... were I hell-bent on playing an MMO right now I would play warhammer. However I'm not hell-bent for playing an MMO right now, and will casually wait for the MO beta.

i loved warhammer till end game. got bored with only being able to run instances every 3 days then after you get all your gear all you could do was instanced pvp cause the alliance on my server wouldnt come out and fight. but they have said that it's alot better im waiting for land of the dead to resub and see for my self. download the trial for war and see if you like it. AoC was fun to me for about 4-5 days then the combat system that is supposed to be a combo system just pissed me off. im sorry i dont find it fun to click a skill then click up left up to use the skill. the noob island is the best part of AoC full voice overs very story driven but once you leave all that goes out the window. but diffrent strokes for diffrent folks. just my 2 cents

WAR and AoC are very different experiences.

WAR is what WoW would be if it focused more on PvP/FvF and less on PvE.  My problem with WAR is that it got stale quickly.  I think the problem is that there simply isn't enough variety overrall.

1.  While each class has a unique look and aesthetic, you really do have to go quite a number of levels before you start seeing more variety in armor/weapon appearances.

2.  While the Elf areas look different than lets say Empire areas, the flow is overall the same.  Same types of quests at each level which makes replayability a pain in the booty.

3.  PvP is a mixed bag.  Scenarios tend to be the most fun and rewarding - when you realize how to play to the strengths of your character, it is a lot of fun.  Open RvR lacks the traction that it needs in order to be enjoyable long term.

4.  While there are a ton of classes, most classes are mirrors/copies of a class of the opposite faction.  For example, the zealot and rune priest play relatively the same way.  This also cuts down on replayability.

AoC is not as polished as WAR.  However, if you have a computer that can handle it, it does have a very appealing gritty aesthetic.  Combat is fun and PvP hasn't really panned out as the devs have planned.  Funcom dropped the ball at launch but they have a history of really turning things around(Anarchy Online went from being the worst to being one of the most respect MMOs).  It is zoned based and instanced similarly to EQ2 in that there can be multiple instances of the same zone.

I'm getting the MMO itch as well and will probably jump in AoC, LotRO, or just wait for DDO to go f2p.  I think NCSoft might have hit the right chords with Aion(from what I've heard, pve is top notch as well as pvp) so we'll have to see.  That and Cryptics next foray into the comic book setting is bound to be short of stellar(CoH was a pretty darn good game by the time it came out - a lil' shallow, but good nonetheless).

The problem I have with WAR is that its just to formulaic all around.

AoC sure does look nice - but I haven't done more than look at, so I can't comment on that game.

WAR has been improving quite considerable since lanch, and it was good to start with. The new content coming soon should be pretty good too. Obviously it is primary a PvP / RvR game, but the PvE is ok. What stand out is the humour, particularly in the greenskin, although the dwarfs did make me laugh. Some of the public quests are very good, as are the senarios; certainly the game comes in for some criticism at higher levels (T4), but some the big fights can be quite fantastic.

Since you can get WAR on a trail - download load and try; you have nothing to loose but your snotlings.

I currently play both.  Conan has definitely improved drastically since launch.   Class balance is definitely closer than it was in the past.

The graphics in conan are outstanding , but it takes a high end rig to run them cranked.  As a pve game I certainly would play conan

over warhammer.  The first 20 levels are breathtaking and very intriguing.  The pvp is also nice at  the beginning , but gets frustrating

higher up.   Warhammer has conan licked in the pvp department though.  The game is much more focused on pvp and exp is gained

from it.   I prefer conan simply because it just feels far newer and looks so much better.

If you really are intent on playing one or the other, play AoC, even if just for the graphics.

WAR, for sure. AoC has groundbreaking gfx but basically nothing else and does not feel at all like an MMORPG with its heavy use of instances and incoherent world.

Start worrying about other players in a game and dont just play

6/16/09 12:10:01 PM#17

I would say AoC, it got cooler grafics and no Elfs, plus the combat system actually is more skill based then in any other mmo to date.  it had alot of bugs though, so look and see that most of them are fixed.

Warhammer is just WoW in new clothes, it wont show you anything you havent seen before.

AoC has better graphics, gameplay, and music than WAR. AoC subscriber base is fine on the more populated servers (Cimmeria, Tyranny, Wiccanna, & Set).

Play the one that interests you, since they both differ in gameplay and style.  I doubt anybody here is going to make you change your mind one way or the other.  Some will say WAR, others AoC, many will say neither.  It's predictable really.  So read up about the games and watch some videos, see which ones interest you the most and jump in.

I can't believe I'm playing EQ1 again...and having tons of fun

Don't they both have trials now?  Try and decide for yourself, as there are a lot of lovers and haters on both sides of the fence.  AoC has much better graphics but heavy heavy instancing, and Warhammer is an open world for the most part, and I personally like the War PVP more myself.  But, really, the games feel quite different and the only way you'll know which is for you is to try.  Both have populations high enough that you'll be able to play with other people at least, if that's any consolation.

WAR = PvP, and lots of it (albeit pointless PvP). Also the classes are quite interesting. Like Bright Wizard and their mechanic, tanks that can DPS well, cool classes like White Lion that can leap great distances. Melee healers that are actually good.

AoC = Pretty gfx and boobs.

Warhammer. While neither are great atm Age of Conan is just terrible, Warhammer Online has been getting better from what I understand and it may be up your alley.

Neither, they are both huge disappointments. Played both and extremely annoyed by the hype and lies surrounding both games.

Femmes Fatales - The Power of the Feminine in the Art of MMOs.

Played:
WOW - GW - WAR - AOC - CoH/CoV - EQ2 - SWG - FFXI - DAOC - EVE - VG - L2 - RFO - DFO - DDO - LOTR

It depends on what you prefer...

War is casual PvP all the time, the PvE sucks while AoC have pretty good PvE but the PvP servers tends to get a gankfeast.

You can of course play AoC on a PvE server and still siege, borderkingdom and do minigames.

AoC do have better graphic but you probably knew that already, also AoC do have more blood and guts.

If you plan to do 95% PvP I say you should go for WAR, if you like PvE you should go for AoC.

Or you could play both, WAR is casual enough to be a secondary game. Anyways, do a trial of whatever sounds best because youll never be sure if the game works for you until you tried and no need to waste money before you know what you like. Me and a friend do a few trials before we decide next game we are playing, and try to note what we like and don't like.
