I have followed FoM for years (since 2004) and I can assure you that this game will be as much of a failure this time around as it was when Retail was released. In fact the whole project has gone downhill since Milestone 1. However, it was the original retail release which exposed serious flaws in the development of the game. Even though free accounts may be coming back, the quantity of new players coming to the game will not make up for the lack of quality in the game itself. Not only is the development team (if you can call 1 person a "team") at times oblivious to the direction its own game should take but the people Duplex puts in charge of running the game have been, and for the foreseeable future will be, shortsighted and incompetent. |

Also played since 2004 beta and I have to agree with you. It was an awesome game before milestone 1 but went completely down hill after that. It's a shame really the game had alot of potential. http://www.warhammer-guide.com |

Was in the first beta and public release. Must say. This system ran entirely of one or two developers at most made this less than attractive. The idea behind it was great, but make a game where it's entirely run by humans with no(or barely any) NPCs and it'll take a nose dive. |

I have to disagree. The game being run by the players is what attracted most people to FoM in the first place. NPCs wouldn't make it a better game. Better GMs would make it a better game. Unfortunately for FoM players they've never had a GM team that was worth a damn. This problem led to a decrease in quality players in the community. And, if you look at the community now as compared to late 2004/early 2005 you will see a marked difference in intelligence and maturity; two important requisites for a good player-run game like FoM.
I suppose you can say that ultimately the blame lies with Duplex (aka Marko). Because he has been so stubborn and arrogant he is left to do 99% of the development himself. The failure to realize his original vision of FoM has led him down the path of this new incarnation which looks like it will continue the trend of taking away the power and freedom of the ordinary players in favor of more automation and GM oversight. Which leads us back to my point about the quality of the GMs... |

It may fail again, but time, as they say, will reveal all. Sick of being broke in Second Life and Entropia Universe ? You could get paid in any RCE game by completing surveys and offers, click here to register. |

I agree, it will fail. Bad leadership, bad community, bad patches/changes, bad history...etc I even tried to warn people about the idiots in control, but all I received was flaming on the MMORPG forums, and "censoring" followed by a ban on the FoM forums. The server providers (the two of them, known as JesteR and NeXeon) will probably even end up in jail some day for the retarded DDoSing they commit themselves to. Sorry, but I ain't playing a game run by two con artists who try to lock other people's internet down through illegal means (I won't even go into the scamming JesteR does, it'd take too long). GG. |

FoM seems to be off to a great start from what i've heard. I believe they will suceed this time. Face of mankind is a very unique game, it is not you average mmofps or mmorpg. The politics are so realistic and strict and the fact that there are no npc's will make the game VERY addicting. I suggest everyone try this game when its released. I heard they were making is Free-to-Play with an option of Pay-to-Play. |

How, exactly, has FoM been off to a great start (5 years after the first beta)? What makes you think that, this time, Marko will succeed where he has previously failed?
Just because the game is unique doesn't make it good. The FPS elements suck. The RPG elements are non-existant, and I'm not talking about levels. The politics are about as realistic as a high-school Model UN except that the people sitting at the table are either mildly retarded, internet tough-guys, or a combination of the two.
If you fit that description you might like the game, I guess. |

FoM is a community game, The GM's also play the game. It is a differant styled game which is why ALOT of huge gammers dont like it, they think its to differant. See for yourself, check out some player made videos on youtube. HERE
ONCE AGAIN, FoM isent for the player who wants to sit at there computer and fight all day. the game is very much RP based meaning you DONT just run around and kill people. Battles or Raids, only occur when a player organizes a group of people to come fight with them. This isent Counterstrike!
It has also evolved to make part of the game made to be played afk. Mining and producing is about 80% of the game. you sit in a room and go afk while your guy is making 100's of somthing.

wnnw98, maby its not an AWESOME start compared to other mmos but its not failing. As explained above, FoM is more of an RPG rather than an FPS. Play the game to RP rather than for a constant shooting game.
When you say the rpg elements suck then you must suck fucking dick at the game. lol. Its all about the fucking rpg!!! The rpg elements again are differant from the standard mmo making it actually very good and addicting.
First off, I noticed that IF YOU DO NOT HAVE VENT THEN THE GAME ISENT FUN. everything is discussed on VENT. vent is where the whole game comes togather. It makes FoM seem real (like an RPG should feel) when you are actually talking on your factions vent channel and discussing in-game politics.
you also said levels, what levels are you refering to? have you ever played the damn game?
Next thing I found wrong in your statement is, You said the politics are just as realistic as a high-school Model UN. well... I truly dont get it... what do you mean a model of the United Nations? just in case you are to much of a dumbass to understand what a model is, Here is a definition: "Any copy, or resemblance, more or less exact.". That was taken off a dictionary... whos side are you on again?
If you're not going to play the game, at least get your info right next time you want to put this game down.

Play the game to RP rather than for a constant shooting game. You're right, it's not failing. It already failed. Remember? Server go bye-bye? Second chance for the same game under the same devs = continued to be labeled "failed" until shown otherwise. And unless they released, that hasn't been done yet. By the way, the "play the game to RP rather than for a constant shooting game" statement was kinda funny. So if I created my character and his background story to be that of a bi-polar schizophrenic ex- military sniper who has finally gone off the deep end, I'm out of luck, I suppose.
When you say the rpg elements suck then you must suck fucking dick at the game. lol. Its all about the fucking rpg!!! The rpg elements again are differant from the standard mmo making it actually very good and addicting. I can use build a world which consist of nothing but grass and a tree. I can then give the players an axe. The players chop wood from the tree and then buld fires all day. That's it. Guess what? It's an rpg. The players are playing the role of tree cutting, fire building people in a grass filled yet barren world. And totally different from the standard mmo. Being a fucking rpg or having rpg elements does NOT make a good rpg.

It makes FoM seem real (like an RPG should feel) when you are actually talking on your factions vent channel and discussing in-game politics. And the majority of mmo gamers still do not use vent, for a variety of reasons. One reason is it also ruins RP immersion when the big tough cop has the voice of a recently hit puberty 12 year old boy. Or the "female" character dancing in the corner has a deeper voice on vent than you do.
you also said levels, what levels are you refering to? have you ever played the damn game? No, he mentioned rpg elements and said he was NOT talking about things like levels, but the people aspect of it. he did not say the game has levels.

That was taken off a dictionary... whos side are you on again? Just in case you're too much of a dumbass, or were not privy to a quality college education or even a good highschool, I'll explain that for you. The Model UN he refers to goes by different names: student council, student committee, student court, and even student U.N. Basically where students are elected to represent and mediate for different student programs or even to mediate between students, just as the U.N. mediates between and for different nations. It is based on the U.N. structure of doing things, or "modelled" after the U.N.
If you're not going to play the game, at least get your info right next time you want to put this game down. And perhaps you should consider that if you want there to be people playing that fucking game with you, then you might want to open your ears ( or eyes in this case ) more and your mouth ( or typed words ) less.

Thought that I would give them a second chance to see if things had improved at all. Seems like not much had improved since the original beta. Player versus Player only... No Thanks! Takes too freaking long just to complete 3 of the first 5 quests to get your first promotion. One of the 5 is broken and can't be completed at all... perhaps the explanation is what is broken. No NPC's to purchase necessary beginner items. You don't have even beginning items on anything at the start. Games where there is NO clear objective are hard to learn and very frustrating. No help in game. Interface has some issues that should have been resolved ALREADY! If Hacking Fails, you lose the hacking device without notification that you lost it. Game deleted on the second day. >:( |

Is that the sucky game which I played long ago? Let me explain: I started with nothing but money. I tried to get me a gun or something. I had to venture through tons of mining facilites to get the right metal, which just didn't come. After I finally got a gun, I had to produce ammo... Venturing through mining facilities getting the right quality metal.... In the end, I hadn't even got deadly ammo to play with the guys shooting each other all the time, lol.
There was some kind of oil rig. (Or was it maybe Project Entropia (now Entropia Univserse)?) Where monsters attacked you or something... I really only half remember this part, maybe it connected with Project Entropia though. (Of which I also remember some scene in some container thingie where you could buy weapons or something. I always remember this and I still don't know if it was Entropia Universe. No other informations about this scene though. It's just something on my mind. I wish I could make screenshots of my thoughts. xD)

Face of mankind sinni800 does not have oil rigs. You can produce weapons and ammo , but you can buy them for much cheaper on a market.

Actually FoM has alot of potential, you're just not seeing it. It has excellent combat and decent crafting, it just doesn't have enough players to make it work. Look at it, you've got FPS/TPS style PvP, economics and politics, both player-driven to the extreme, and great potential for RP. It's only because people weren't willing to go with it as a retail game. |

Fom is fun for about a day. Day #1: Join LED, realise they just sit around all day scratching their own buts and running away from things. Day #2: Join the most hated faction, gank everything in sight, get a locker full of gear. Get bored, log off. -- |

That being said, I have never argued against FoM's potential. The criticisms I, and many others, have had with the game is the poor development beyond the original concept. Another major criticism would be the immaturity, and to put it bluntly -- stupidity -- of the player community surrounding the game. The players themselves are largely responsible for the horrid state of the FoM community today.
You are also wrong when you state that FoM has "excellent combat." The combat has always been a major flaw of the game and one of the primary reasons FoM never achieved wider success. As an avid FPS gamer for over a decade I can say with absolute certainty that the mechanics and balance have major issues that don't seem to be able to be solved by Duplex. Part of the problem is the engine itself, and another part of the problem is Marko's inability to design a good FPS-style combat system on the level an MMO needs. It's a hard thing to do, and he just doesn't have the skills to do it.
I have kept up with the development process of FoM since Marko decided to give it another go. My conclusion thus far has been that he continues to make the same mistakes over and over again. And without a strong, knowledgeable publisher to give him guidance there will be no major successes to come from his project. |

Yeah on second thought it wasn't worth my time, or it's developer's money, I was planning on editing m original post but the forgot. You're right, it sucks. I mean only 2 of the 6 factions actually have any ability to craft something useful, seeing as there's no booster items, and anyone who actually has a gun will just shoot on site, which really doesn't yield anything anyway. Mqan I wish Duplex would just start on Nanoverse, at least that has a chance. |
