I like PvP myself, but this is Final Fantasy we are talking about. A game franchise, that's been focused around people coming together as a team to save the world. And they have shown they rather have it where you get the offline FF game expierence in a sense, but in online form. And is why it's so focused around the story as it is.. and PvE. I'll just get my PvP fix, from something else while playing FFXIV.. like Modern Warfare 2 or Aion. |

IMO, games that are item centric should not have PvP. At least, I wouldn't play it. I know I can't put the time into getting all that gear that is required in games like EQ and WoW.
Obviously, there is a market for people who love item centric PvP games. WoW does well, EQ's PvP servers at one point were rather populated. I just can't compete in games like that due to the raiding required to become viable. |

And the reason we don't want a lot of PvPers is to prevent people like you from playing the game... making comments like that and with all the whining that PvPers do to warrant changes ect. So please, stay where you are. Playing: Star Wars: The Old Republic |

They would whine endlessly. Other than that PvP doesnt belong in FF as a major part of the game. Until SE comments on PvP everything everyone says is just their own speculation so keep that in mind aswell. For all we know FFXIV could be FFA PvP no one knows. Just wait and see what happens. MAG and CoD 2 is where I will be getting my PvP fun. Waiting for: FFXIV V2.0, ArcheAge,GW II |

It should have PvP a la final fantasy advanced, with guilds and what not, now that's something I'd play for years.
To those who said FF isn't about guild vs guild check out that game, it even has GvG tournaments. |

Ugh I hope your not talking about final fantasy tactics advance....that game doesn't even deserve the tactics title. It's alright but the clan system wouldn't add much in depth pvp unless you add in the bit where clans could own territory. But that opens up a whole other can of worms and would put this in the pvp genre and I do not believe many FF fans want a PvP game. On a side note I hope SE would make a Final Fantasty Tactics 2 or something....that game is still far superior in everyway to FFTA or FFTA2. |

I hope for at least some battleground with a ranking system if they can balance it right. |

OP have you played FFXI? I doubt if SE goes that route, but some sort of PvP would be nice, but that is not really SE's MO, we shall see. |

I knew it. I didnt think that Square thought PVP was relevant. There have been games that have had some good PVP but Final Fantasy has never really incorporated it in their games (except Ballista). They just dont see it as pertinent as the Story, Community and Tactics.

FFXIV needs open PvP like I need another hole in my head. Ballista-type minigames would be great tho, and I would soooooooo be into playing Blitzball again |

Did the original version say "no PvP at launch" or "no PvP at all"? I think there's a big difference. Personally, I wouldn't mind the option of some friendly butt kicking. It's true that if I want PvP action I'll just log on to another MMORPG, but I felt that semi-friendly PvP activities in FFXI really gave the player base a good choice to kill some more time after they've been killing dragons and behemoths for years. PvP balance makes no sense to me for games like these. I don't mind believing that a white mage wouldn't be able to beat a dark knight in FFXI. |

Anyone who thinks this game is going to have serious PvP is in denial. I generally dislike PvP communities, almost every PvP server I've played on in various MMOs were like a cesspool of arrogant morons who only care about themselves. I wouldn't mind PvP being in the game, as long as they keep it as a minigame with no real focus. No rewards through PvP except titles and fluff items for bragging rights that have no real effect on the game. Keep only the people who love PvP doing it for the fun of PvP. Also I'm pretty sure I read in an interview they said the servers would be world wide like FFXI with everyone playing on the same realms, PvP and latency issues don't get along well. |

Yeah they could add games like card games, like they will with FF13 Agito, and i thought maybe they could do a monster arena game, the player morph into the form of any creature they unlocked, and fight with the monster skills and attributes, so the devs would only have to balance that form of pvp gameplay, without touching the classes the players uses. And they could add a more strategic mode and make it work like a DotA kind of game, i think most would be happy with my idea, it adds diversity. |

Just tossing my 2 cents out here: I hope they keep PvP away from the core of the game. I have seen what PvP does to games that used to be PvE centric and it just trashes them. The best PvP games imho are FPS where everyone is balanced and it's pure skill. There is no skill involved when you massively outgear your opponent, then it becomes another version of Griefing. Griefing is bad, mmkay? I'd like to see something like Ballista just because it allowed PvP in FFXI and tho I personally never played it it was fun watching from the sidelines and rooting for my country. That version of PvP actually helped bring community together without creating those feelings of I'm so much better than you all nubs that is so prevalent in PvP focussed games. Also, it's amazingly easy to control munches who are jerks without killing them, simply take the cool people, form a new party without the bad element and replace them. That simple. The community will govern itself without the need to PvP at all. Reputation meant a lot in FFXI, I am hoping it will have the same impact in FFXIV.
I am -glad- that PvP is not going to be a major part of FFXIV, if I want my PvP fix I can play any number of FPS or Lineage or Guild Wars. Trying to bring PvP into -every- game is just, wrong, imho. Trying to incite people by calling them care-bears or anything else isn't the way to change anyone's mind, all it does is prove that element is exactly what a game like FFXIV doesn't need. Not every game is for everyone, otherwise we'd all still be playing EQ, or WoW, or AO, or DAoC. Plenty of PvP centric games out there, not many PvE centric games out there which is one of the many reasons I can't wait for FFXIV. |

Very good post Pantheos, I wholeheartedly agree! Not every game has to have the same things. Halo doesn't need RPG elements, Final Fantasy doesn't need FPS elements. Different games for different people. The same should apply for MMO's as well. There are so many PvP-PvE mix MMO's out there that we really don't need another one. What we dont have however is a next gen MMO with pure PvE. Only SE iirc is making one and that is FFXIV. Why do you PvP lovers want to take the one and only PvE game we who love them are going to get in the next decade? There's so many WoW-type games coming that it isn't even funny. Star Wars MMO, Aion, Lineage 3, Guild Wars 2... all of them have some of both types or pure PvP. Only way to make a pure PvE MMO popular again is to make it almost as succesful as WoW was, or without it we'll be stuck with half assed WoW clones forever. At least SE realizes this, that's the most important thing.

LoTRO has PvP in it, quite a bit actually. Get to level 10 and you can focus purely on PvP if that is your choice. It's most definately not a pure PvE game because of that. To whit: If you want a next gen hard core PvP game, go play Aion. Go play Guild Wars 2 when it comes out. Go play WAR. Hell go play EVE there is plenty of PvP in that too.
I don't want PvP in FFXIV, the majority of people who are highly anticipating FFXIV don't want PvP in it judging by these posts and posts on other sites. The developers of the game have said 'There will be no PvP' in interviews... so, quit trying to make this game into something it's not going to be. Let us have our FF game with it's PvE focus without the hassle, ego's, and constant travails of PvP. There is nothing -wrong- with wanting PvP, but it isn't going to happen with FFXIV, thankfully. |

Then what you're saying is WoW is also not a PvP game, because it too had PvP added on. There is also AoC, and Darkfall with PvP.....and soon to be SW:TOR and Fallen Earth, and Jumpgate Evolution and Mortal Online as well as EQII, and already mentioned Guild Wars I & II, and WAR and Aion and and and and.
How many damned MMOs already out and coming have PvP, yet only one FFXIV that more than likely won't and its OMG-End-of-the-World-Troll-City because one doesn't have what you want. Go play the multitude of MMOs that do have PvP and leave this one alone, cause it will more than likely only be PvE! |

"The interviewer also brought up PKing and PvP, to which the developers responded they were considering options for the latter. They explain that while the game will involve cooperation, this does not necessarily always mean party vs. monster. Still, they say PvP will more likely take a shape similar to Final Fantasy XI, and they seem to shy away from allowing players to simply fight and kill each other anywhere, worrying it could lead to monopolization of content." And no, PvP in FFXI isn't anything massive. And if that's all PvP there will be in this game too, nobody should have to complain about it having too much PvP.
