Every game does it, you finally think that your class is perfect again and then they go and change damage or spells of effects which make you a weaker class. Any story's on how they did it to you? Share with game name and class and how bad the nerf was.

Well, uh, that happends all the time in MMOs ?

But I was particularily offended by the news that, in Lineage 2, they have massively nerfed the healing spells of Shillien Elder. It actually happened after I've left, so I myself wasnt directly affected any more. Still the news especially outraged me. Shillien Elder was never overpowered to begin with, and always struggled a lot to find any place in the game.

The probelm with that change is, while other healers in Lineage 2 either can solo quite well (Prophet, Warcryer) or at least kill Undead solo quite well (Bishop, Elven Elder), Shillien Elder was the case of a class which can really only be played in a group. While neither buffs nor healing where outstanding, Shillien Elder could provide a nice mix of both, and at least got two buffs which where, in the beginning, even unique to the class (afterwards other classes got them too, though).

Robbing Shillien Elder of their healing spells would have finally killed that class for good, I persume.

How was my class nerfed?

They took away the two years grinding to a posiion where I could strangle bosses with my mind or cut them to pieces with my five pearl, million-credit lightsaber, and reduced me to a starter profession that could be killed by an 'officer'.

Like i think WoW is the worst for the whole, overpowered and underpowered. I mean the death knights are a little over powered, the hunters were for a very long time, the warlocks were, the ret pallys were, and the rouges were. Almost every class was in WoW. I say were because i quite WoW.

Been lucky never to have had mine nerfed. Played EQ, EQ2, VG, Lotro, DDo, SWG, DF, WoW, and a few others and mainly played Ranger types throughout....never had a character nerfed :)

Though i have had my character "Balanced" a few times :)

Played as a ranger in EQ from 2000-2002. I saw my class get its xp penalty removed, and saw his defense rise. No nerfs.

Played as a friar in DAoC from about 2004-2007. Saw that class get more spec points, and a comabt style revision that made him better.

Been lucky with those games.

In EQ2 I was there for the first combat/tradeskill revamp. I think it was LU13. It made stats worthless, just like in EQ, and totally wimpified players spells/combats. It also got rid of a lot of good tradeskill items. So it was everyone getting nerfed, or "balanced"(what is beta for?). Just recently game back to the game out of boredom.

I have had my fair share of nerfs, but I will always remember one that wasn't so much a nerf, but ended up making my class a lot more difficult to play.

I played a rogue in vanilla WoW.  When you applied poisons to your weapons before entering a battleground they would persist through the battleground as long as they didn't wear off normally.  One patch caused this to stop working, then the next one broke it, the next one fixed it and so on.

I can just remember going "man, should I even bother putting this poison on.  I can't remember if this sh- still works, bawwww"

 Tabula Rasa.

All clases where nerfed, and the wildlife were buffed, to artificially make the game harder. Intestead, it got boring.

But my classes, and my favorite weapon, the netgun, got specially nerfed, because was ridiculous overpowered. Anyway, I was happy with the weapon, and once the weapon (and the class) got nerfed, I was not fun anymore.

Now theres not Tabula Rasa anymore.

Shaman in WoW from the beginning of WoW to current WoW is probably the biggest example of a class nerfed to oblivion.

They were extremely overpowered at the start of WoW and through early raiding (and PvP) to being nerfed repeatly from there on out.  Pre-TBC (Old Naxx) they were about where they should be.

Then came TBC and they were nerfed even more with poor spell choices at the cost of one very nice spell (Heroism).  A Resto Shaman still had purpose (group healer) and Elemental Shamans were still pretty good at PvP due to their burst.  Enhancement shamans had great PvE DPS, but generally there was always a class you'd want to take along over a shaman (except for Heroism and totem buffs).

Along comes WotLK and now why bother with any shamans at all except for maybe bringing along 2 for heroism.  Totems aren't that great compared to blessings and other class buffs (as long as being inconvient on the shaman) and look at the class specs themselves.  Resto Shamans are second rate healers who now have no specialization since priests can AoE heal better.  Elemental does pretty crappy DPS and only brings a single raid buff (Totem of Wrath) over losing a bunch and is even worse in PvP.  Enhancement suffers from the same problems as Elemental too (except with a few more useful raid buffs).

Warlocks in WoW are another really good example too.  They've been both underpowered and overpowered in every single expansion so far.  Really hard for the devs to stay consistent on the m.

The AoC devs can't decide what they want to do with classes too and tend to be really awful at class balancing.  They make insignificant nerfs or nerf classes that don't need it, while giving buffs to already powerful classes.

Hopefully you weren't complaining of Shaman balance in TBC.  We went from only having one viable raiding spec to 3 - that's a huge increase in viability.  Even better is the fact that I was able to top DPS raiding as Elemental. Haven't played the character recently, but TBC was basically the golden age of the shaman, far as I'm concerned.

Certainly you're right about warlocks (although are they finally not overpowered? really?)  They were basically the longest-running overpowered class in WOW, ever since Death Coil got its terrify effect.  And that counts for PVE and PVP!

I may be sorta harsh on EVE, but damn is this a cool trailer (EVE Dominion).

When CoH came out a Force Field Defender was a pretty powerful class. They couldn't kill much but they could make you and your group mitigate 90% - 95% damage. They had no healing abilities so the force fields made up for it. It was an unfair advantage for sure but it sure made the class fun. When they nerfed it the game just wasn't the same for me anymore so i quit. I understand that classes need to be balanced once in awhile but it sure takes the motivation away of playing when you get hit with the dreaded nerf stick

How was MY class nerfed?

In Tabula Rasa, by shutting down the servers. It made it so my Guardian couldn't even move D=

Mostly I see nerfs as something positive towards the game I play, especially within the MMORPG scene it keeps a game fresh and keep challenging new. I would be bored very quick if I would always be the same predicteble  character.

The only nerf ever I disliked was from Pre-cu to CU+NGE with Star Wars Galaxies, other then that they are all positive to me even if it hit my own character.

Paladins or what the heck they were called got nerfed in EQ2 with LU12 or was it LU13?

Cant' remember...   anyways, started playing WoW and then Blizzard nerfed the Paladin class over time and gave us pink armor to wear.

I have never seen a game company ridicule a class as Blizzard has.
