.. does not auto-save.

Apparently, you can only "Save and Exit". I figured that it would update your details as you progressed, like your career progression, items you buy, etc. Alas, it does not.. I crashed and realized I lost all my progress from a rather lengthy session (3+ hours I think). I was very close to achieving final promotion in the Journalism Career, I had money rolling in.. and bam, crashed.

What an ignorant design, honestly. I logged back in to see my house nearly just as it was when I bought it...

Pissed... sigh, won't bother playing for a while.

Well they removed all of the lot loading and transitions which is where all of the auto-saving used to happen. I wouldn't call the design "ignorant" when it tackled one of the Sims 2's biggest complaints.

If you'd never seen a screen telling you it was saving (like all games with autosaving tend to do), why'd you assume as much for as long as you played?

"Save and Exit" isn't the only way to save, you can just "Save". It takes a millisecond to do. Is that really asking too much?

I didn't see the other Save or Save As.. before, don't know why. True, it did tackle some serious issues with the loading times, but I still don't see why it can't make a quick back-up save every now and then.

I just flew off the handle because I got burned from that crash.. lol

I guess what OP means is an auto save along the lines of something like Oblvion or Fallout 3.

Yeah, nothing too major. I don't mean an auto-save every 10 seconds like Oblivion.. more along the lines of a major event. Like a career promotion, a large amount of money, etc.

I suppose it is a problem if people are crashing. I can't say I save myself more than every 30 minutes or so. I'd be pissed if my client was prone to crashing.

I'm surprised there's no option for it, but maybe they'll patch it if there's enough demand.

The saving takes a bit of time though, not a lot, but not the blips we're accustomed to in "checkpoints" of some FPS games. In games like Oblivion we have load screens anyway so saving then isn't so bothersome. I'd personally mind it if in Sims 3 that screen came up every single day that passes in the client.

Maybe a save for skill changes, career promotions, etc.

Is it over yet...

So strange some people have absolutely no issue saving such as myself. I've been playing since release without a single problem, although my friends have had a few issues. All the people I know using XP havent had the save issue as of yet though. Mite just be a issue with Vista.

I think saving at least every 30 mins would't hurt your playing time.
