I've been tempted to try this game for awhile now,but i have certain concerns seeing how i am not a hardcore player.Slightly interested in some PVP altercations.I love the idea of no classes and no levels.

1.When i first read about this game years ago it said it would cater to everyone from the hardcore to the causal?Seeing the many reviews can someone casually enjoy this game?

2.Since i don't have a ton of time is their mobs i can solo after a hard day at work other then goblins.

3.i don't understand how adding quests would make this game care bearish?Since i love quests in any game.

4.Is getting a group easier in DF then others?Cause  when i want a group in other mmo's i can never manage to get into one.

5 When your skill improves does the effectiveness of that skill get a little better ? Or is it like they say that it only gets better at 25,50,75,100?

I am somewhat of a carebear, but i am willing to have my ass kicked in a world that seems as free as DF.

Game is not solo friendly, and is not good for casual players IMO.  The PvE needs a lot of work, but they are supposedly looking into it.   Maybe once that happens, I would say try it, but right now it's probably not going to fair well with you unless you go in with a lot of friends.

Man i should make a game, pretend it will be the best thing out there, take 10-12 years to develop it and release it with 1% of what was promises and still get peoples to buy it.  Amazing !

Neither are the rest of the people that play Darkfall but unlike yourself they just don't know it

See after Darkfall was released it introduced a dumbing down of the word hardcore. When somebody proclaims himself hardcore people ask: {What do you mean? UO hardore or Darkfall "hardc0r3"?}

1.When i first read about this game years ago it said it would cater to everyone from the hardcore to the causal?Seeing the many reviews can someone casually enjoy this game?

It's a very competetive game be prepared to grind your skills and for resources 10hrs just to enjoy maybe a few minutes of pvp and you will be forced to grind them up just to be competetive with the other players. Also the company has only recently taken a harsher stance on macros, exploits and hacks without a server wipe so all the players that have been in before you have probably used them and are far ahead of anyone that joins up now, so you will be low on the food chain for a good, long time

2.Since i don't have a ton of time is their mobs i can solo after a hard day at work other then goblins.

There are some other but they might as well been goblins. Besides the point is not if you can solo the mob ,the point is: Is the zerg squad roaming the area gonna give you 2 frikkin minutes to do so?

3.i don't understand how adding quests would make this game care bearish?Since i love quests in any game.

Well the best explanation i can come up with (putting aside claims of how quests=fluff Darkfall is "hardc0r3" sanbox it doesn't need them mentality) is: quests=more NPC in towns, more NPC in town=less player slots (it's not a joke i'm afraid)

4.Is getting a group easier in DF then others?Cause  when i want a group in other mmo's i can never manage to get into one.

Grouping is actually the only viable way of playing Darkfall anyone saying otherwise is a liar. You won't be able to find many people to group with in Darkfall unless you join a clan beforehand , Darkfall is heavily clan based not solo friendly at all

5 When your skill improves does the effectiveness of that skill get a little better ? Or is it like they say that it only gets better at 25,50,75,100?

The later of what you mentioned Darkfall is basically level based not skill based when it comes to character development.Anything from 1-24,26-49,51-74 and 76-99 is pure grind without any effect on your character other than that it brings you a bit closer to skill levels 25-50-75-100 where you gain access to new stuff

I am somewhat of a carebear, but i am willing to have my ass kicked in a world that seems as free as DF.

Feel free to do so but consider yourself warned . Darkfall is less "free" than you might think you will find out for yourself should you try it.

Very honest reply.

I will say that it's not hard to find a Clan as everyone is basically in the same boat so that grouping is pretty natural for this game.

Don't. I got about a month of beta time and knew then and there that a buying the game would be a waste. Look at the youtube videos and listen to the posters so far. Darkfall isn't very great. At least wait until it's cheaper. $52 is a rip.

I am somewhat simular type of player myself so let me tell you of my experiences with Darkfall.

1: I'm a casual player but I found a good guild and found myself well able to contribute to both the Guild and the city. Between gathering materials for new buildings or going on "hunt groups" with other players to defending the city from attack I was made feel welcome and a valuable addition to the guild.

2: Honestly I would say no. Once I moved from the starter areas I found mobs because quite difficult, almost impossible to solo. Grouping is the way to go and believe me it's great fun to go on a group "hunt"

3: As stated earlier adding quests aint a problem it's surviving long enough to complete them (unless you do them in a group)

4: I always found getting a group quite easy and the variety of roles I was asked to fill in those groups varied widely. From harvesting materials, to guarding harvesting groups from attack. However as I stated earlier this was all due to my guild I would say that getting a group while not part of a guild might be harder.

5: Each change slightly modifies you chance at success using each skill. When you reach the level milestone (25,50,75,100) you get access to "additional skills" for your main skill. These skills level as well and further improve the characteristics of the primary skill.

I never thought I was but I've worked out I am quite a carebear, I like my safe areas and truth is DF doesn't have any. I've been ganked 5M outside the city wall. I've also been part of a guard trying to hunt down a number of players entering the city and killing characters. Darkfall is not a game you can play if you are tired. You must be awake, you must have your wits about you.

And most of all you must not get disheartened WHEN you get killed for it shall happen often and from both NPC and Players.

Also when you get in game try find yourself a guild as quick as possible for as soon as you take your first steps out of range of the noob town guard tower you WILL be WTFBBQ, this is fact.

It's difficult to enjoy casually.  The game requires a lot of time to make a character viable, and really have any fun.

2.Since i don't have a ton of time is their mobs i can solo after a hard day at work other then goblins.

There are "Goblin" like mobs you can also solo.  They have a different loot table, cast the same spells, and use the same tactics.

The non-"Goblin" mobs can't really be solo'd unless you exploit them somehow.

3.i don't understand how adding quests would make this game care bearish?Since i love quests in any game.

Basically, the equation is- Anything that makes the game less player driven = Carebear.  NPCs mean you'll be doing less PvP because you'll be questing.  Therefor, you're a carebear.

4.Is getting a group easier in DF then others?Cause  when i want a group in other mmo's i can never manage to get into one.

I found that in a lot of hunting spots (where you aren't RPK'd) it's easier to get into a group.  You'll have to get away from the newb areas though.  Those areas are a haven for new players that think PvP is the point of the game, and not a feature.  I guess they are right.  And also the higher level gank squads they are tired of the lack of content.

5 When your skill improves does the effectiveness of that skill get a little better ? Or is it like they say that it only gets better at 25,50,75,100?

You are correct.  You won't deal any more damage with your spells/skills until you hit the 25/50/75/100 marks.

I am somewhat of a carebear, but i am willing to have my ass kicked in a world that seems as free as DF.

You'll have your ass kicked a lot.  You'll get angry when you run back from killing and get owned by some guy in full banded who 10 shots you.   Then you'll get camped just because the griefer can't kill anyone his own level -- err -- character progression.

SOLO

I have been playing for 3 months now and I do about 95% solo work and I do venture out often to kill mobs.

Having said that, it isnt an easy life and it doesnt get you into the seiges part of this game but it is possible. For solo Archery is your friend.

does your game have rainbow sprinkles and magic ponies!?

1) I'd say yes not easily. Starting out in DF is painfully slow, to an extent I've never seen in any other mmo.

2) There are, but this isn't a solo friendly game and I'd advise you to join a clan ASAP if you plan to keep playing.

3) Fair comment. Remember that the people flinging the carebear insult are generally drooling psychopaths.

4) No. I advise you never to join a group with someone you don't already know. Why? "Friendly" players can kill you without consequence if you're in their group.

5) It does, but at those 25 milestones you see more significant improvements. Numerically, you can eg. see crafting skills getting better as they level (with the increased % chance of success).

There are a number of decent players in the game and if you can get into one of those guilds, you may enjoy it.

Hello there friend!

First thing i would say is that i too am a casual player but am now in a clan. I played for a month unclanned and still enjoyed it. The game is based more for a casual player than a hardcore player IMO! Hardcore players to me need hours and gratification, casuals need just to have a bit if fun with not much reward sometimes. That's me! dont need a rewarding item though its great when i get one..i just need to enjoy my hour online. or turn of my PC hating someone, which to me just adds a rush!

It's difficult to find a group if not clanned, Dont be fooled friend...no one can be trusted if not clanned!

There are plenty of mobs that you can solo if you look that are not goblins friend, orcs, centaurs ( after your first few weeks ) kobolds, trolls and lizardmen.

Anyway try it if you think you might like it and good luck! If not then i hope you find what your'e looking for anyway :)
