To all you programming teams out there in the developer´s corner, I am an individual that has been around many mmos and I know what players look for in an mmo so if you ever need a good idea for a succesful mmo just contact me... |

You can't just say "proof will follow" you need to have proof of whatever skills you have now if you ever want to get on a competent team. I'm looking for what board/card games you've made, what "scripted" games you've, and whatever else. Right now you just sound like someone spouting "give me a leader position and I'll do good", "I'm also so good that I can convince the world in under 50 words", and "I have experience but I'm soo good and have soo much proof of it that there's too much to put here". Also a MMO large enough to require a "full blown idea person" just won't work will never pan out in micro-indy(unpaid indy) because you need to magically keep together a team for 3 or more years and most people can't even keep casual friends that long when they've never even gotten into an arguement. Basically any project where you would be welcome is most deffiantly doomed for some sort of failure, or is running a tight enough ship that you'd be less than useless with the skillset that we know of. Debugging is twice as hard as writing the code in the first place. Therefore, if you write the code as cleverly as possible, you are, by definition, not smart enough to debug it. |

Make an example GDD of your work. Otherwise no one will ever take you serious. I would also like to point out that there is no such thing as a successful mmo idea. There will always be those who hate it and those who love it. Also, work on your thread a bit. You sound a little out of place. The statement below is for educational and entertainment purposes, I do not in any way mean it hurt your feelings. You sound around the ages 12-16; possibly, more or less give or take a few years. You sound like a former WOW player who has several guilds although none of which are successful by any standards. You've clearly nevered work on a real MMO in your life. You don't have a job and you want an easy one, which to you sounds like game design. You clearly don't know the definition of the word iterative. GDD and TDD are terms you don't recognize. You suck at expressing yourself through art in any way shape or form. And of course you feel the need to be a part of a big project. I respect you for this. Because in order for you to become a good game designer, you must first understand who you are and where you stand. Because to the world, your just another person. If I'm being critical, just let me know. However I stand by my words. I do find this topic very entertaining. If you are in fact none of the above. Feel free to contact me. I won't have you work on an MMO, but I would be more than willing to help you make a game. |

Lol, I liked it. It brought me into the light, I realized that I have just not done enough for this community to be taken seriously. So I myself have been quite busy "recovering". I have several great new projects I will be announcing soon that I'm sure will brighten things up for new Devs. |

I agree with most of the posters here. Also, it takes alot more than just programmers to make a game. If you have no idea of what I'm talking about, then grab yer WoW manual, or another game manual and take a peek in the back few pages...Yeah those lists of 40-200+ people, THAT'S what it takes to make a mainstream large production game, such as an MMO now days. Keep in mind some NON MMO's take teams of more than 250 people, like Assassin's Creed 2. Sure if your programmer can 1, come up with an idea 2, turn the idea into a full blown concept; providing concept artwork, turn that artowrk into a 3d models, build a world, create items, create and design an interface, animate everything, create audio tracks of music and sound effects, provide mo-cap if needed, program everything, from the interface to the AI and every piece of equipment and animation in between....Oh yeah and don't forget the Marketing and advertising, one of the reasons for WoW's success, it is heavily marketed, everywhere you go you see WoW, shirts, hats, drinks, games, commercials, radio, banner ads, videos, etc... Then write a GDD, because without that, you can not do any of the above with or without a team. If you do not know what a GDD is then I will guess to say you don't know what a BP is either. Game Design is NOT easy, I have been doing it independently for 8 years. My team FINALLY has a solid BP, and GDD for 2 of our projects, and are going somewhere. IF you want to be serious about game design, then go to school for it. otherwise get a very competant team and force yourselves in with an outstanding IP that standsout amongst everything else in that genre. I have been around MMO's for 10 years, 1999 EQ, as a player, I understand the game mechanics, as a designer i understand the elements of design used to forge the game, and as a busniess person, i understand the MARKET, which may be the single most important ascpect of game design. Know your role, Know your market, and qualify your cutomer base. When you KNOW these aspects you MIGHT have a chance at independent game design. Yes you can make a game by yourself, yeah it may even be a big hit, as long as you can do all the above all by yourself.

Awesome post! Honestly, thats exactly what this thread needed. and also, what kind of projects you working on? You have peaked my interest. |

Well Thank you! Our first project is due out in mid to late 2010, we are pending funding atm which can take quite some time. getting investors outside the industry is a pain in the @$$...lol That project is a PS3 title called AXIS Cubed. It is going to be very unique twist of yahtzee meets tetris. Being for the PS3, we utilized ALL of the PS3 KEY features including the trophy system and HOME. We have 2 MMO's in the works, one of which the GDD is done and we worked on just that for 7 years...yes i said seven years...We did this for many reasons. 1 we were young and didn't know alot inside the industry of funding and business etc.. 2, we wanted the game to be full, and not incomplete and patch later. we wanted to be trully unique, no levels and a killer real life system for everythign you do. You can plan a farm, be a craftesman, or roll a warrior in your regions army, or be the lone mercenary..So many things to do. We want all of our unique systems of crafting, archictecture, and bounty hunting to be as unique as possible. Sadly because we are a non funded company, that project was too much to pull off as a first project and some other companies beat us to the punch on some of the system ideas we had. This MMO is for a different genre, the history of thsi world. it takes place in various time periods from around 380 BC to 1300 AD. Our other MMO is unannounced at this point, but the way we will arrive at that MMO with our customers will be one hell of a unique experience. We have a few other projects dealing with episodic content and digital distibution. We are working on our Sony licensing and should have all that wrapped up in the next few months. We have a team of 10 peeps. You can check out our site here www.phailsafeinteractive.com it's not fancy its a place holder for our main site, and serves its purpose for the Investors eyes. People tell me to put paypal up and take donations lol.... Look for axis cubed to hit the Playsation network next Fall/Winter for the big price of $4.99!! Thanks for your interest! |

The OP seems to mean development teams, that's how I took it since this is in the developer's corner. But I think it's overall directed at any who are currently or thinking of producing an MMO...IE production manager or CEO....someone who is making or going to make decisions and want to tap people who have good MMO experience and ideas/knowledge.

Well ok people, ive read all your posts, and this thread has gone in many directions, not really what I expected, all I wanted was to give away my ideas for mmos because I don´t want to make them, I rather play them and rate them, so any team out there that want them you can have them theyre really good, so just send me a post or a pm, thanks. |

Honestly if a team is already put together then chances are they did so because they already have an idea in place. Anyone and their dog can have an idea and naturally they can find someone to tell them its a good idea, but in the end an idea is just a whimsical thought and not a fully developed concept that you can (or should) base a game on. Best of luck to you, but I'd be highly surprised if anyone takes you up on your generous offer. |
