nope.

im more afraid of arty farty "elite oldschool" mmo-players, lore geeks who will moan whenever they feel something is not cannon and the nutty side of the swg veterans.

So whats everyone thoughts on what the TOR community will be like?

Worry all you want, there's absolutely zero you can do about it. If it happens, then leave the game. I know I will.

Exactly. There's also a feature called "ignore". Some people just worry over stupid things.

You know, I am starting to get slightly irritated with all of these "the community sucks" comments about this game and others.

Listen, when you speak of a community of players on any given game, you are talking about a large number of players, thousands if not millions. No community totally sucks or is totally great so please stop talking about it in 'meta'  terms.

I have played WOW off and on since launch and I have never had the issues that many people talk about. Why? Because I surround myself with mature adults who are all like-minded players and don't cause stress and drama. As a matter of fact, in the guild I am in, we kick anyone who causes massive amounts of drama (limited daily drama is okay).

The same will be true with SW:TOR. Don't worry about the community. If you want to play the game, then do. Find a guild who has players that act older and stay there. My thoughts on the community is exactly that - find like minded people and game with them.

Maybe I am just lucky that I have avoided all of these so-called "asshats" that ruin a community SO BADLY that someone will not go ahead and play a game. I have never encountered any player that would keep me from playing a game I liked or that I looked forward too.

To ask this question is just pointless.  We are never going back people.  We are never going back to the day's where MMO's were filled with a niche of like-minded, somewhat mature individuals.

The General Public has arrived.  And just like walking out your door in real life, most people you meet are going to be annoying to you.  You are going to find a great person that you click with in like 1 in 10 people you meet on a daily basis.  But those great people are there, you just have to find them.  Wishing away the quote "bad community" is just pointless.  The good and the bad are here to stay!

And I say, the more the merrier!  The biggest d-bag you've ever met in your life, as well as one of your new good buddies could be in the next PUG you join!

Agreed. Us older generation are not the norm anymore. We are now the old foggies that look towards the younger and moan and groan. We sit on our porch with the shotgun loaded just waiting for that one youngster to step foot in our beautiful green grass. Cause when he does...... Kabow!

Inevitable was a good word used already. We just gotta deal with it. Hey maybe you can impose some wisdom on the youngsters and mold them into the younger version of yourself. They will be your new pet! your....Precious!

Tbh, I look at your concern as imature.

If a game got 100.000 players...lets consider it will have 50.000 imature ppl playing. If a game got 10.000.000 it will probably have 5.000.000 imature ppl playing it. Just like haveing 5.000.000 mature ppl. This a so old concern and argument, usually taken by an imature view at the reality. IMO

Perfect reply!!

Really now?   I avoid most "serious" guilds as they are normally filled with powergaming raiding adults that are more immature and full of drama then kids..   Children (uner 21) normally are just silly and immature, meaning they bs about rap music and girls and talk about pwn'ing then person or mob.. and getting uber gear..   However, adult players in most "end game" guilds are filled with freaking drama.. The BS is so thick one can choke on it.. Why are all soap operas in the day targeted to adults?  ummmmm because so many adults are worthless drama chasers..  It's not the kids watching "Survivor" and other reality shows, it's the lame adults..  That makes me the minority.. I'm the adult that avoids other adult guilds..   The thing is.. Children are expected to make mistakes, it's part of growing up.. However most adults in any MMO have no excuse..  (hangs head in disbelief)  :(

No offence but that sounds a bit self righteous. Maybe to others you are a douchebag. Doesn't make them immature does it ? I have meet people that claim they are mature and end up being elitist jerks that have no grip on reality or in a better description they haven't learned how to act.

The only real way to have 100% enjoyable time in any mmorpg is with people you already know in real life or E friends you have been gaming with for quite some time.

All people are jerks to someone else

All people are douchebags to someone else

Some people just like to get under others skin for the pure enjoyment to get someone's goat.

There is really no safe way to group with random people in a mmorpg when you don't really know them.

You can get lucky though and find that 1 group of guys that just get along. Good luck trying. I have been gaming mmorpgs sense back in UO days and i still haven't found that group of funny red necks that are a bunch of easy going guys.

As long as the current games offer no reprucussions to one's actions ... the communities for most popular games will go this way.

As long as "ganking" mechanics are controlled I could care less about anyones attitude mmo's for the longest have had ways to avoid asshats incorporated such as ignore key.  The biggest problems I had during wow was from pug where people would maybe roll on things that they couldn't use at the end of instances which had nothing to do with opposing factions and even these things can be controlled with loot option controls.

Basically there is no concern for me over this in every thing we do in life we will encounter people we don't get along with but mmos are certainly better equipped to deal with these things than real life.

I think you touched on something here. The only real way to punish someone for acting like a jerk or being immature in a game like wow is having an option to make their in game experiance hell. What i mean is, take games like Shadowbane. You could totally gank a person out of the game to the point where he would just log off.

In wow you can't take anything away from anyone. In a way it is good and a whole bunch of other aspects you get morons running around making other people's in game experiance unenjoyable. You made that point when it came too loot.

Now if you could gank that person or walk into there house in game and just robbed the living crap out of them. Do you think peoples additued would change in game ?

You know damn right it would.

You think anything you can "do" to idiots in game is going to change their attitudes?  That is ridiculous, and anything you could "do" to punish them, would be something they could "do" to you.

The only way to deal with morons, is to /ignore.  Period.  This is a game where we are all walking around as friggen Orcs in armor attacking gnomes and some such, and you think we are going to change people's attitudes by "making their life a living hell"?  LOL, c'mon man.

Though........I did love Shadowbane.  If you were an idiot, you were on our list to kill, and everyone knew it.  But regardless, killing those people didn't make them change their attitudes in any way.....

I survived the WOW and Guild Wars player base just fine but only socializing with guild members. If somehow the coomunity here is bad I will just do the same as I did before.

I can see it already, I agree with what your saying looking at the posts on the official site. yep tons of 12 and 13 year olds logging off of WoW comming to TOR! I can hear it now 'I want SWTOR NOW Daddy!!" all the uber spoiled little no life having smack talking brats. I have heard that LOTRO has a very mature base of players. too hard for the little monsters to play.

It seems to me that WoW is nothing but an on line chat program for little brats. I remember a big tussle in Stormwind between some kids and the child like BS they were spouting in local chat. something to do with a girl and her cheating on her boyfriend.

One can only hope that this is not the case with this game. but I won't hold my breath.

You are talking about like just one person. I'm talking about an overall community.  True ignore does help but it won't reduce the problem. I'm talking about actions put in place to help enforce that. Maybe not looting someone's epic or walking out with his farm sort of speak isn't the best way to go at it however i feel ignore is useless as a third tit when it comes to the mind set of a moron.

I'm fine with someone robbing me. Heck i use to play Oblivion Online so i guess I'm just use to dealing with morons a bit different.

You mess with me I'm taking everything you own in game.

I cried the day they closed up shop on Oblivion Online.

Meeting the occasional moron is just a single strand in the rich tapestry of the MMO experience.

I understand why people would want to shut themselves off into a closed guild environment with only people that they know and trust to act as mature and responsible adults. I don't do that. I join PUGs, I engage complete strangers in conversation for no apparent reason. You know why?

'cos sometimes it's absolutely hilarious!

Like most people, I play MMOs just to have fun and some of the most enjoyable moments I've had in my gaming life have sprung unexpectedly from the most random situations imaginable.
