Bringing the Pain Train from FPS to MMO''s. WOO! WOO! |
I am rooting for Bioware, this is their time to shine! They have a perfect record of games and are a solid development team and will PWN Blizzard! Thats the deal, they are stepping up to the plate. Cmon lets look at the record Neverwinter Nights, Mass Effect and the King of all time RPG Baulders Gate Its over for Blizzard. Blizzard got lucky with Wow, it was their first rpg. Diablo was an Action rpg not the same. The Masters have come and its Bioware! Wow is going to get pummled! |

Bioware makes great stories, much better than Blizzard, but their ability to make gameplay is lightyears behind Blizzard.

Hold up, wait, hold up wait! So you think Blizzard can balance classes like Wows classes better than Biowares balancing in Baulders gate? Hmm I think not. Bioware is the best RPG game company hands down now they are going to take that and make it massive. MMORPG? Hmm ok so you are saying...what? |

I really don't understand why one has to beat the other. BioWare is a successful company and probably has no intention to "beat" blizzard. Now, do they want to steal some subs from WoW? Yes of coarse but, I doubt they have daily "beat Blizzard" pep rallies in which they burn copies of WoW and sacrifice game cards to the MMO gods. This whole competition thing is just for fanboys and bored forum posters to have something to argue about. Besides, do we talk about how DICE has to beat Infinity Ward because they both make modern shooters with multiplayer components? No, of coarse not, but we may have opinions on which we enjoy more (I personlly play both games). This MMO competition with WoW crap needs to stop. |

RPG's are where Bioware excels, and I have complete faith in them and this product. Blizzard built WoW off of a great IP that gamers had been addicted too for years. There weren't a lot of other good options at the time, and they've done very well with it. They're catering to the masses, and raking in lots of money. For RPG fans, mmo or otherwise, Bioware will likely deliver a revolutionary product. Tieing in storylines to an MMO they way they are attempting is the kind of innovation the genre needs. Being part of a larger story helps players to become more immersed in the game. |

Agreed. This is something that has been lacking for some time. I think WoW tapped all the elements of the shallow story, loot item based mmo. Its an era that is dying. The new age mmo is going to be story based and immersive. |

That's when you have "This is where you story beings!" contest.
Submit your story for the next chapter in your Star Wars saga. We will choose one winner for each class... The prize? Your story becomes the next chapter (aka series of quests).
In fact you could do this as an expansion... just think of the money you can save by having the story line created for free as a contest and just using it as the next expansive story line as the reward/pay. Being able to choose the skills you want to use, offers much less variety than pre-made class based systems. -Future Game Developer |

Yours is not the path of force, though force is often needed to clear the path. |
I like Bioware, but look who had the most games in the top 10 for years and years now, Blizzard. South Korea basically has sold it's soul to Starcraft, i don't see any other game company haveing that kind of following for a game so old..i dunno, Blizzard is in a whole other league. Bioware is awesome but they aren't at the level of Blizzard, just the way it is when you look at the big picture. If SWTOR end up with more subs then WoW then good for them, then again they would be beating a over 4 yr old game...not sure i would be overly proud of that lol. People get to caught up in this crap though, in the end it doesn't matter who has the Top MMO, it just matters about having a good time in the game of your choice. As long as Bioware keeps away from the "We need to beat blizzard" thinking then they should be fine and their game will be fun. I plan on playing, but i'm not giving up Warcraft. =D We are all ignorant until truth is revealed to us.. However.. How do we know the truth is not in fact a lie.. "When a man has lost everything, he may despair and die. He might give his soul to the fate's... or, he can resolve to take action." "The great thing about human language is that it prevents us from sticking to the matter at hand." |

Are you seriously trying to say that Bethesda is as good as Bioware in the RPG genre.....? I mean I know we all have our opinions and all that warm fuzzy stuff, but sometimes there is just a right answer and a wrong answer.
Bioware > Bethesda.

You just watch....people are going to try to compare 1 year of sucess to a game, when IT ACTUALLY COMES OUT in 2011, that will have been sucessful for 7-8 years. Blizzard may have their new MMO out around that time...Bioware better put in more work! Comparing Bioware to Blizzard? Man, get out with that...Bioware needs to watch out for Bethsiba(sp) Ent. ever more and their talk about a Fallout MMO.... |

Sorry, but I like my RPGs to be open ended, not: "Here, let me take you by the hand so you can experience this great story we wrote for you!" Don't get me wrong, I like Bioware's games, but they aren't true RPGs so much as they are a book you get to play through. You know, making your own story as opposed to a preset one. |

Seriously, people, are we going to debate every damn aspect of the SW:TOR v. WOW and Bioware VS. Blizzard argument for the next year+ until the game releases? It really is getting old and threads like these only invite fanboi/troll arguments and debates and nothing more. Honestly, debating Bioware and Blizzard games is like debating apples versus oranges. Blizzard make easy, very approachable, fun games that are designed to appeal to as many people as possible. Bioware makes major story driven RPG's, focused on excellent combat, that are fun but at the same time, a lot more in-depth than a Blizzard game. The two companies develop different games that, for the most part, represent some very large groups in the general gaming population. Debating it is pointless. |

Well, Blizzard and Bioware have been in friendly competition ever since the Diablo-Balders gate (Not Baulders gate, OP) era. But Bioware and Blizzard don't really have the same fan base. On the other hand do both have a lots of faithful fans that but their game. Still MMO market is not that big now, Either TOR will have to take subs from Wow or they will have to get Biowares fanbase into MMOs just like Blizzard did 5 years ago. I suspect it will be a bit of both. As for the dude who said this is not a RPG since the story is kinda like a book: That is not true, RPGing is about interaction between you, NPCs and other players. If you want a "sandbox" (don't really like that world) RPG you should wait for WW/CCPs "World of darkness online" instead which will be very open ended. Look on the difference: Baldurs gate = RPG. Diablo = Action game. The interaction with anyone in Diablo is just superficial even in multiplayer while in BG the whole game is about interaction and story. Wow do have some interaction parts between players however but interaction with NPCs are still zero. So I would say Wow is a RPG/action game. That doesn't mean Wow is bad or any action game for that matter, I liked Diablo. But NPC interaction should matter if you have npcs in the game. Just a questgiver with the options "accept" or "exit" is not RPGing at all. Aoc got this better but in almost all cases your talkning matters little to the story. |

Originally posted by templarga you make good points. now to the OP, bioware will not beat blizzard. The question here is not to know who is better. that is irrelevant to the topic. BIoware will not beat blizzard while doing story driven heavy rpg games for the simple reason that this games attracts much smaller audience then a thing like wow that can pull almost every archetype of player. c'mon, 50% of the players currently playing mmorpg's dont even read the quests and thrill to have a big arrow on their map pointing to where they should go.

Blizzard made a lot of more games but they have about the same numbers of great hit games. The reason I don't count the expansions BTW is that an expansion to a hit game will sell automaticly but they have about the same number of expansions also. |

Two high quality companies both putting out well made mmos can only help us the customers. Neither one has to knock the other out and hopefully neither one will. Competition breeds better products for everyone.

WoW can have a billion subscribers, as far as I care. As long as Bioware makes a StarWars mmo...with the same quality and care of their single player games..and then some...then Blizzard might as well not exist for me. hic!...CAW! |

Exactly. I don't care what others play. WoW holds a lot of appeal for a lot of people. I simply want more out of a game, and I think Bioware has the best chance of offering that to me. |

Blizzard was regarded as one of the best RPG game companies with their Diablo and Diablo II as well. They made an MMORPG. 'Shite. Hmm ok so you are saying...what? ----------------------------- |
