So, SE codename "Rapture" MMO, is finally showing some skin of its alluring figure. From the trailer, i immediately thought FFXI-2. Heres what they have revealed that i found important: |

Good post, I totally agree with making the game p2p. F2P communities are often terrible in my experience so hopefully they'll not use micro transactions. Most of the research i've done in what little we have to go on ends up drawing close to the same conclusions as you. Although as a long time FFXI player myself I dont feel the need for any real "perks" in the new game. I put a hell of a lot of hours into FFXI but I understand that this a new game under the Final Fantasy banner. I suppose mabye a little something for my mog house (or equivalent) might be nice though :). I do have a question for anyone who reads, will you be buying it on PS3 or PC at launch? (As those are the only confirmed platforms) I have to go with the PS3... even though i dont own one, i'll have to save. I fell in love with the console MMORPG idea with Everquest Online Adventures and i'm more than willing to get it for the PS3 knowing my console will always be able to cope with the graphics (my PC is terrible). Im sure the PS3 version will support mouse and keyboard. |

I'm pretty sure it will be P2P if it's not I will stick with XI. As far as release I'm sure they will release a month after XIII which is good buisness from where I'm sitting. But all in all I just hope they don't give up on XI. I will be getting it for PS3 I think XI had a much better feeling on PS2 rather then PC. |

I am really excited to find out what things SE is going to keep, and axe from FFXI. I played XI for 5 years, I got a lot done in the game, and enjoyed almost every moment of it, so naturally I hope they upgrade it without setting it back in what I loved about it. I'm very curious about the leveling system, because leveling is what keeps the player really wanting to more forward, so having the same satisfaction from a weapon leveling system might be hard to attain in my opinion. Things I loved about FFXI: The community, environment/immersiveness, job classes/sub jobs, techincality, skillchains, difficulty level, HNM's (Possibly change them from 21-24 hour spawns to 9-12?) Things I would like to see changed from FFXI: Too much stress on gil, more job-specific equipment/originality, more organized quest system, ability to log in for 2 hours and feel like you accomplished something, better PvP system I obviously have more, but these were the ones that stood out to me, and I think for any gamer looking into a new game had they chosen FFXI they would agree for me here. If they can somehow change these things, they would manage to keep the hardcore gamer, as well as the casual gamer happy. Personally, I hope they keep in mind that not everyone is a casual gamer and that some of us do enjoy sometimes spending a day just playing a game, especially when it's in a world that is so immersive. |

I really enjoyed FFXI but like it's mentioned above, there was a little too much focus on gil. In newer games they've been able to control gold/gil farmers much better. I think that could help...but I just remember from day one on that game how hard it was to make gil...which was part of the fun, I have to admit...just a bit too much. |

I may have to get it on PS3, although frankly, my PS3 so far has just been a blue-ray player :P I had a problem with FFXI on my computer. The graphics were god-awful, all pixelated, which I assume was a graphics card incompatibility, or possibly Vista. Who knows? I searched for a fix, but I am not the computer geek some here are, and when they want me to start replacing files, I give up. I felt if they wanted my business, they would make it easier to fix. BTW I have a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS, not exactly an uncommon card. I should've been able to play this correctly. |

I'm very excited about Final Fantasy XIV aswell.
There is a youtube video with an interview about the game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EjcqEeFx5ncof
I am actually kind of glad they won't be adding any PvP upon release. I've had some pretty bad MMO experiences with game communities based in PvP and it really lets those rotten spirited players shine bright in the community. The last Final Fantasy MMO had a great community that was really cooperative and friendly, really looking forward to the new one! www.creative-inn.com |

Variety is the spice of life, unfortunately, it's also the bane of balance. |
Thanks for the info HowlingFish, I just hope this time around they offer a more solo friendly environment, not that grouping is bad, but forced grouping is. I liked FFXI for a bit and probably would have played a bit longer but I stopped playing for awhile and I lost my account info, and their CS was in no way helpful of getting back. |

Yeah I couldn't agree more there... I really hope they improve the customer service as you mentioned, the CS wasn't so great. =/ www.creative-inn.com |

You won't respond to my post, because you know i'm right. |
Hopfully they'll have it for Xbox360 (otherwise my elite will just keep collecting dust) and I'm deffinitly buying a new comp system (I need a new one anyways)
Hey about 3 or 4 post ago some one posted a link to a FFXIV interview... well the link is dead, so maybe you can repost it? If at first the power of persuasion doesn’t work, use the persuasion of power. |

Hopefully they will keep enough from FFXI to make the game good. Granted SE has been innovative in a good way may times they have also been innovative in bad ways. Exhibit A - The Sequel to FF Tactics, Exhibit B FFVIII. Do not get me wrong though I am drooling in anticipation I just hope SE does not stab me in the face with innovation again. |

I would say i have been very good at predicting games, before they come out.IMO the OP is correct on many assumptions. I think the casual part will not be much different than what we see in FFXI right now. Growth and development is already there in FFXi,you do actually skill up your weapons, witch in turn give better weapon skills.I am postive we will still have levels. The weapons and comabt is very much up in the air because they claim to be introducing some brand new ideas never seen before.Square is VERY innovative with ideas, they have brought so many new ideas to the genre, that i feel they must be running out of ideas lol. In every single FF game they have changed the combat slightly,i hope for gods sake they do not add in the arcade type speed clicking,i will not like that one bit. That is the idea where they flash an icon and you have to click the appropriate arrow direction or series of arrow directions to match it.That would turn me off bigtime. |

I started FFXI on the PS2 when it first launched. I later was force to get the PC version because I was hogging the TV too much. I actually prefer the PC version. Graphics are much smoother, more detailed and less lag. Im buying both PC and PS3 version since I share my PC and TV with my family. My thoughts on FFXIV.... I believe you will gain some kind of weapn skill points, there will be some kind of skill grid for you to unlock and choose the type of skill path/direction for your character where you can add HP/MP exc.... As someone mention before leveling for FFXIV is probably going to be a similar leveling system in FFII. |

Awesome post. I will say man, dont over analyze it. It is what it says. A balance between casual and hardcore. As in it will be just like FFXI where you put your flag up and wait for a PT and plan to pt for hours. Or, you can log in solo a bit craft a bit and go from there. Lets hope they deliver on this. |
